This first track from Sunken Cages' 'Empathy Bypass Filter' (a conceptual Collection of collaborations) is with dragonchild (saxophones, drones from Ethiopia and based in the US).
dragonchild is the solo-project of Ethio-Jazz stalwart Danny Mekonnen, of Debo Band fame. dragonchild combines traditional Ethiopian music with ambient and other beat-based experimental music
The forthcoming collaborations on Sunken Cages 'Empathy Bypass Filter' releases are with dope artists from renowned projects that include:
Phelimincasi, Maria Valencia (Meridian Brothers), Danny Mekkonen (Debo Band), Alex Otaola (Santa Sabina) Eat My Butterfly (Reunion/ France), Kamyar Arsani (US/Iran), Boogzbrown (Reunion), Pambulo (MX/Uganda).
Ravish "Sunken Cages' drove the creations that were truly collaborative in nature. The process was unique, in that each track began with an initial idea from Sunken Cages that continuously evolved as each artist shaped and reshaped the track until it was complete! At the end, all tracks were produced/mixed by Sunken Cages.
I can't speak to the lyrics, but I really like this manifestation of electronic lounge music and North African drums and vocals.
It's good late night chill music, not downtempo but energetic in a laid back way musically. Gaelan D'costa
Was looking for tracks to add to a playlist dedicated to International Womens' Day and knowing how good Tenesha is with her lyrics I knew that there would be treasure in her back catalogue, and I found it here. Dangerous Woman and Medea are such strong pieces of music with powerful lyrics and Dangerous Woman will join other tracks from Tenesha the Wordsmith onto the playlists of The Illicit Grooves Radio Show. Bob Hill Illicit Grooves
This one is for those who like explorations into post-punk, dub, UK bass hybrids, and spiritual and free jazz. Our admiration for Uffe has gone up another notch as he continues to test, push, and bend musical boundaries. Can't wait for the vinyl! 𝕋𝕨𝕚𝕤𝕥𝕖𝕕𝕤𝕠𝕦𝕝
