Thanks!

I joined today after posting "preparing economy for war" in master of orion. Thanks for the edit, I knew some spellings were wrong and didn't have a dictionary nor does work cpu have a spell check. This is one cool site! However, how do I disable that pesky pop up that is blocking the tool box? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Mikoyan (talkcontribs) .

Are you on IE7 or 8? I believe it was said that the ads are only a problem on IE7... and I'm not seeing problems on Firefox at all. Someone else should probably step in here :P Oh, and welcome to the site! Baejung92 (talk) 01:07, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
Those pop-up adds should easily dismissed by clicking on them. However, it sounds like your problem is related to the automatic window resizing. Rather than give low-rez users a scroll bar, the site is currently set to dynamically resize the screen, even if it means not being able to see anything at all. How to resolve it? Increase your resolution. We currently, unofficially, support a minimum resolution width of 1280. If you want to inflate this issue, maybe one of the guys will get around to tweaking the layout. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 01:11, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
The Close button on the ads will take care of it. I'll note, though, that I usually edit the site at a significantly lower width than 1280, so I doubt that's the issue at all (my display is 1440 width, but I don't use full-screen windows and the browser is usually barely more than half the screen width). Additionally, you could install an alternate browser and not install Flash on that browser (or disable Flash) and those ads will no longer display (since they need Flash), and instead you'll get ads that stay out of the way. --~Vizeroth · (c)~-- 01:59, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
Vizeroth, resizing your window fixes the problem because it makes the website scale correctly with a scrollbar. If you have a low resolution and you maximize, it tries to fit it all on the screen. Slight difference. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 06:46, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
The screen doesn't need a horizontal scrollbar at 800x600 resolution, so I'm not sure what you think the difference is.--~Vizeroth · (c)~-- 20:08, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
What do you mean? On your PC, does the advertisement overlap the toolbox when using a 800x600 resolution? If the window doesn't generate the scrollbar, as far as I've observed from experimenting with my PC, the advertisement at the top will at some point overlap the toolbox. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 00:44, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

adding movelist to character guides.

I have a question about how to add moves list to a certain page and if you guys have any other button inputs besides the joysticks? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Kobra 98 (talkcontribs) 21:54, 7 May 2009.

Move lists can be added to a single page (e.g. Controls), although if the move list becomes too big, you will have to split it into the different character pages and transcluse those individual pages into a central area.
If you need to add support for different controllers (e.g. Wii, SNES and others), you can use {{Control selector}} and {{control}} templates to allow different means of displaying combos. However, this may be too much trouble to implement, as fighting games aren't that complex to require significantly different displays (as well as the fact that some home systems may allow users to reconfigure buttons to the user's preference.) --Sigma 7 02:10, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
To clarify a bit, generally for fighting games you use the arcade controls for the move lists for the individual characters. Then on the Controls page you add the controls for each system that game has been ported to and their equivalents in the arcade control scheme. You can choose to use the control selector on the individual character move lists, but it can get pretty complicated fairly quickly to do so. Category:Controller_button_templates is the category of templates for controls for different systems, and usually there's someone in IRC that can give you a hand with using those templates properly.--~Vizeroth · (c)~-- 21:24, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

submitting games

Hello. How do submit games to the list as I know of a "Wario: Master of Disguise" and "Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood" but you have not listed them? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Chalkwriter (talkcontribs) .

Please read our guide -- it gives a step-by-step walkthrough as to how to create new guides on StrategyWiki. If you are still lost after reading that, then post a reply here. --Skizzerz 15:52, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
There are two kinds of lists, ones generated by the wiki and ones constructed by hand. If you are looking in the Games category or the the Wii category, for instance, those will contain lists of all games that have been marked with those categories (i.e. [[Category:Wii]]). If a game isn't found in there, it's because we don't have a guide for it, or it doesn't contain that category tag. Other lists, such as on the guide completion pages, are generated by hand. These should actually have all the games for each system in the list, but the categories just show what we have currently and aren't meant to be comprehensive. - najzereT 00:05, 11 May 2009 (UTC)

Content skips

I have noticed a little table with hyperlinks that skip you to a certain bit (like Guises on Wario: Master of Disguise). I don't know how to make one. How do you make one? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Chalkwriter (talkcontribs) .

Oh, you mean like the little blue box like near the top of this page? They are automatically generated if there are three or more headers on the page. You can manually make one appear by using __TOC__ but only if the sections are very long, because otherwise there isn't really a need for one. --Melon247 Hammy, my hamster. Cute! (talk · contribs · comp) 12:25, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
Yes, __TOC__ isn't used to force the table of contents, but to help placement of an already existing table of contents, usually when an element is floating to the right at the top of the page and you are using {{-}} after the content to stop it from overlapping the first heading. - najzereT 14:49, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
