NES enemy
Goblins walk the length of any platform that they happen to occupy. They turn around and walk back the other way whenever they reach the end of the platform or an obstacle. Before they turn around they try to punch and destroy whatever obstacle happened to be in their way. When they notice that Dana is on the same level as them, they rush forward and chase him with an outstretched arm. Break the blocks that they stand on to make them fall to their death. |
Gargoyles patrol their platforms just like Goblins do, and they can break blocks that get in their way. However, whenever they happen to see Dana, they stop and begin to spit fireballs out in Dana's direction. They can be defeated by breaking the block that they are standing on. |
Dragons are the most fearsome of Dana's pursuers in the game. Not only will they chase Dana when he is in front of them, they will chase him as soon as he gets anywhere near them, even if they are facing the other direction. They can breath fire, although the length of this flame is limited to one block. Destroy the blocks they stand on to defeat them. They give the most valuable items of any monster, including scroll extends and extra life potions. |
Demonheads typically spawn from the Kameera Mirror generators. They can fall down any height, and proceed in one direction until they hit an obstacle and turn around. They will destroy any obstacle before turning around, if possible. They fade away after being on the screen for a certain amount of time. |
Salamanders are particularly deadly. They typically spawn from the Kameera Mirror generators as well. Once they appear, they can fall any height, and they will proceed to track Dana down. They can breath fire and destroy stones just as Dragons can. They disappear from the screen after walking around for a certain period of time. |
Wyverns fly back and forth across a particular row of a stage. They don't particularly react to Dana, but they will destroy any block that gets in their way before turning back around in the other direction. They turn around considerably slowly whenever they bumb into an indestructible wall. There is no wyvern in the NES version. The equivalent is the Devil Keese, which does not pause when it hits a wall. |
Ghosts are very much like wyverns. They fly back and forth, and destroy any blocks that happen to get in their way. However, they turn around much more quickly than wyverns do. They typically guard narrow corridors, so plan your route around them carefully. |
Nuels are very much like Ghosts, except that they fly vertically instead of horizontally. They fly back in the opposite direction whenever they hit an obstacle, and they can destroy any blocks that they happen to run into. |
A chimera is the vertical equivalent of a wyvern. They fly up and down as opposed to across. Like wyverns, they pause a little bit before rebounding off the surface of an indestructible object. They can destroy blocks that get in their way. They are not too common. There is no NES equivalent. Instead, there is one extra enemy known as the Skeleton, which appears from Kameera Mirrors and behaves identically to Demonheads. |
Spark balls are living electrical entities that like to cling to a surface a roam around it. They never deviate from their path unless the block that they are traversing suddenly disappears. Then they will fly off straight in whatever direction they were traveling until they find another surface to cling to and follow. They move at various speeds, are more of a moving obstacle than a direct threat to Dana. |
Panel Monsters are motionless statues that are attached to various walls in various stages. They spit fireball out of their mouths at regular intervals. They can be situated horizontally or vertically, and their fireballs can destroy blocks. If you need to use a block that's in the path of the fire, don't plan on staying there for too long. |
Green Slimes are the slowest of all the slimes. They bounce along the floor from block to block. They can also slip between blocks and through walls. Their unpredictable nature makes them extremely dangerous to deal with. They appear from Kameera Mirrors. There are no slimes in the NES version of the game. |
Orange Slimes are a little faster than Green Slimes. They appear from Kameera Mirrors, but they occur on much fewer stages than Green Slimes. You can never tell where they are going to go next, so your best bet is to avoid getting close to them as much as possible. |
Purple Slimes are the fastest out of all the slimes. They will only appear on one stage in the entire game, and only if you happen to destroy one of the existing enemies with a fireball. So chances are likely that you will never actually witness the speedy Purple Slime at all. |
Earth Mages are particularly dangerous. They share your ability to create blocks, but not the ability to destroy them. They can, however, destroy blocks hit headbutts, just like you. In fact, they can destroy an entire block with just one headbutt. They can also jump, even higher than Dana can. They aren't too bright, but they are determined. The Earth Mage is replaced by Willy in the NES version, a far smaller threat that behaves much more like a Goblin. |
Blue Flames are the more common variety of flames that you will encounter throughout the game. They have an eternal source of fuel and will never go out, even if they drop through the air. You can use your wand on the flames to lower them briefly and jump over them. Just be careful not to wait too long or the flames will rise up again and burn Dana. |
Dana will not encounter Orange Flames until much later in the game. They are taller than blue flames, but they can be extinguished. To do that, you must remove the blocks that they are positioned on and make them fall. That will put out their fire. You can also use your wand on them to lower the height of their fire. The NES version of the red flame is the same height of the blue flame, but is otherwise the same. |
The Kameera Mirrors are enemy generators. Enemies will pour out of them on a regular basis. In addition to providing the stage with enemies, they serve as obstacles that prevent Dana from creating blocks where ever they happen to be situated. Don't stay directly beneath them for too long. |
Devil's Emblems do not cause Dana any harm, but they certainly don't help him either. Like Kameera Mirrors, Dana cannot create blocks wherever Devil's Emblems are found. Therefore, they are typically used to create difficult puzzle solutions where you must work around their placement in order to complete the level. |
