Gauntlet IV, released as Gauntlet in Japan, brings Atari Games's 1985 arcade smash-hit Gauntlet to the Sega Genesis for the first (and only) time. This was no mere port, however, because in addition to a faithful conversion of the arcade original, it features several new modes, including the all-new Quest Mode, which adds RPG features to the traditional Gauntlet formula as players battle their way through 40 entirely new floors of monsters and treasures in search of the secret of the "Castle of Succession".
This game's Arcade Mode is identical to the original Gauntlet, so you will have to refer to that game's guide for information regarding that mode. This game also features Record Mode (an altered form of its aforementioned Arcade Mode in which players strive to achieve high scores), and Battle Mode (a competitive free-for-all in which between two and four players fight each other until just one survives).
