Negative Effects[edit | edit source]
KO/Death[edit | edit source]
- Occurs when character health reaches 0.
- Character lies stationary on floor.
- Cannot participate in battle.
- Cured with a Phoenix Down (anytime) or Phoenix Pinion (in-battle only), Life/Full-Life white magic spells, and Amarant's Revive.
- Persists after battle.
Berserk[edit | edit source]
- Character has red sparks above head, and is glowing red.
- Physical attack power increases, but character cannot be controlled.
- Cured with a Remedy or Gysahl Greens.
Confuse[edit | edit source]
- Character spins wildly on spot.
- Character cannot be controlled; will randomly attack friends and foes. Physical attack accuracy also decreases.
- Cured by a physical attack.
- Can be guarded against with the Clear Headed ability.
Darkness[edit | edit source]
- Character has a small black cloud in front of their face.
- Physical attack accuracy greatly decreases.
- Cured with Eye Drops, a Remedy, or the Esuna white magic spell.
- Can be guarded against with the Bright Eyes ability.
- Persists after battle.
Doom[edit | edit source]
- Character has a number above their head, slowly counting down from 10.
- Will inflict KO upon character when counter reaches 0.
Freeze[edit | edit source]
- Character appears blue-tinted, stationary, and surrounded by small blue icicles.
- Cannot participate in battle, and is immediately KOed if hit by a physical attack.
- Can be guarded against with the Body Temp ability.
- Will wear off in battle eventually.
Gradual Petrify[edit | edit source]
- Character has a number above their head, slowly counting down from 10.
- Will inflict Petrification upon character when counter reaches 0.
- Cured by Soft or the Stona white magic spell.
- Can be guarded against with the Jelly ability.
Heat[edit | edit source]
- Character glows orange.
- Character is immediately KOed if they take any action.
- Can be guarded against with the Body Temp ability.
- Will wear off in battle eventually.
Mini[edit | edit source]
- Character is much smaller than usual.
- Physical attack and defence power greatly reduced.
- Cured by Remedy or the Esuna white magic spell.
Petrification[edit | edit source]
- Character appears to be stationary, and encased in stone.
- Cannot participate in battle.
- Cured by Soft or the Stona white magic spell.
- Can be guarded against with the Jelly ability.
- Persists after battle.
Poison[edit | edit source]
- Character has purple or green vapours above head.
- Character HP gradually decreases.
- Cured by Antidote, or either Panacea or Esuna white magic spells.
- Can be guarded against with the Antibody ability.
Silence[edit | edit source]
- Character has a small speech bubble containing two dots above their head.
- Character cannot use magic commands.
- Cured by Echo Screen or a Remedy, or the Esuna white magic spell.
- Can be guarded against with the Loudmouth ability.
- Persists after battle.
Sleep[edit | edit source]
- Character droops, and has ZZZs over their head.
- Cannot participate in battle.
- Cured by the white magic spell Esuna, or a physical attack (magic attacks do not wake the character).
- Can be guarded against by the Insomniac ability.
- Will wear off in battle eventually.
Slow[edit | edit source]
- Character has a series of grey arrows pointing downwards above their head. ATB gauge for that character turns grey/black.
- Character's ATB gauge fills slower.
- Cured by a Remedy or white magic spells Haste and Esuna.
- Can be guarded against by the Auto-Haste ability.
Stop[edit | edit source]
- Character appears completely immobile. ATB gauge turns grey/black and does not fill.
- Character cannot participate in battle.
- Cured by a Remedy or the white magic spell Esuna.
- Can be guarded against by the Locomotion ability.
Trouble[edit | edit source]
- Character has a small crying face above their head.
- Half of any physical damage inflicted on that character will be dealt to all characters.
- Cured by an Annoyntment.
- Persists after battle.
Venom[edit | edit source]
- Character droops, and has green and purple vapours rising from their head.
- HP and MP slowly depletes, and character cannot participate in battle.
- Cured by an Antidote or Remedy, and the white magic spells Panacea and Esuna.
- Can be guarded against by the Antibody ability.
- Persists after battle (character does not lose HP/MP outside of battle).
Virus[edit | edit source]
- No visible changes to character.
- Character does not gain EXP or AP after battle.
- Cured by a Vaccine.
- Persists after battle.
Zombie[edit | edit source]
- Character turns varying shades of brown and you have a black cloud around your head.
- Trance gauge immediately depleted to empty and does not fill, character does not gain EXP or AP after battle, and healing skills/some forms of damage have reverse effects (i.e. a Potion damages HP, an Ether damages MP, Regen acts like Poison, and Death fully heals HP).
- Cured by a Magic Tag.
- Persists after battle.
Positive Effects[edit | edit source]
Auto-Life[edit | edit source]
- No visible changes to character.
- Character will be resurrected with critical health immediately upon being KOed (one-time only).
- Cast by the blue magic spell Auto-Life, or Amarant's Aura skill.
- Can be obtained through Auto-Life ability.
- Only wears off when it activates.
Float[edit | edit source]
- Character hovers a short distance above ground.
- Character does not take any Earth damage, but takes more damage from Wind attacks.
- Cast by the white magic spell Float.
- Equipping Auto-Float will permanently give that character this status.
- Wears off after a short time in battle.
Haste[edit | edit source]
- Character has a series of green arrows pointing upwards above head, and ATB gauge turns yellow.
- ATB gauge fills faster.
- Cast by the white magic spell Haste, or Carbuncle's Emerald Light (equip an Emerald on Eiko).
- Equipping Auto-Haste will permanently give that character this status.
- Wears off after a moderate time in battle, or when Slow or Stop is cast on that character.
Protect[edit | edit source]
- Character periodically glows blue.
- Character takes half damage from physical attacks.
- Cast by the white magic spell Protect, or the blue magic spell Mighty Guard. Eiko's Carbuncle summon may also cast this on all party members whenever it shows a full animation.
- Wears off after a short duration in battle.
Reflect[edit | edit source]
- Character has a series of red stars hovering in front of their faces.
- Any magic cast at that character will reflect back onto the caster.
- Cast by the white magic spell Reflect, or by Carbuncle (standard).
- Equipping Auto-Reflect will permanently give that character this status.
- Wears off after a short time in battle.
Regen[edit | edit source]
- No visible changes to character (apart from occasional green numbers popping up).
- Character periodically regains a small amount of health.
- Cast by the white magic spell Regen, Freya's Reis' Wind, or Amarant's Aura skill.
- Equipping Auto-Regen will permanently give that character this status.
- Wears off after a moderate time in battle.
Shell[edit | edit source]
- Character periodically glows yellow.
- Character takes half damage from magic attacks.
- Cast by the white magic spell Shell, by the blue magic spell Mighty Guard, or by Carbuncle's Pearl Light (equip a Moonstone on Eiko).
- Wears off after a short time in battle.
Vanish[edit | edit source]
- Character's body is invisible (only weapons can be seen).
- Character cannot be hit by physical attacks.
- Cast by the blue magic spell Vanish, or by Carbuncle's Diamond Light (equip a Diamond on Eiko).
- Wears off after a short time in battle, or when character is hit by a magic attack.
