When you enter Modoc, give Jo the letter. Jo will find out about the Slags, and he will get angry at the Slags for "killing" Karl and for harboring dead bodies on stakes in the farm. Tell Jo that the bodies are fake, and you will go and find Karl. Jo will give you a month to find Karl. Karl is in the Den, in Mom's diner, on the east side. Head there. Jo will give you thirty-one days to find Karl; otherwise, he and some Modoc townsfolk will attack the Slags.
