All classes can have swords. Swords generally have high stat modifiers and damage, and few restrictions to their usage, enabling you to have countless builds.
One problem with swords and other weapons is that they disable skills that require specific weapons. For example, a Bounty Hunter would be unable to use Cheapshot, Poison or Massacre. Tech Mages, when using swords, cannot use Plasma Bolt, Overload, Plasma Rain or Supercharge. Mercs cannot use Maul, among other attacks. It is recommended to have your Class" specific weapons and sword.
