To all who had never knew Sky King, it’s okay! Come and sit my friends. So, Sky King, was a guy like everyone else. His name was Richard Russell, as his loved one called him, Beebo. He worked as a baggage handler at an airport in Seattle Washington state I believe. It was said that he worked there for a handful of years, but little did anyone knew he was fighting a battle inside him, he was depressed, potentially from the job he worked everyday, maybe that it was not really fulfilling in life. No one knew as he kept it to himself. One day in 2018, I think that was the day he finally had enough being dead on the ground. He got through security, towed a Q400 Horizon Air onto the runway, and entered the cockpit, taking off into the sky with no one onboard but him. He was up in the air for at least an hour, with an atc guy from the ground trying to comfort and reason with him, but we all knew that the atc guy knew where this was going. Richard’s Q400 performed many stunts in the air that pilots these days still couldn’t pull off without breaking the plane, such as the iconic barrel roll. After at least an hour in the air, his plane, “called it a night,” after nosing down and crashing. It was a heartbreaking sight. That day, as some men looked up there, it was no hijacker or a stolen flight, but it was a dance in the sky by a broken king like all of us, painting the sunset with his loops and turns, with all emotions being raw in that cockpit, as the propellers hummed for the bird to keep flying on. I know, it is not something right that any man would want to do but we all deep down understood why he did it. Sky King’s dance taught us how to breathe again, to live again, that our dead end jobs doesn’t mean everything in our short lives. Hence, the only man in the modern world to ever tell a thousand stories through a Q400, is why we called him, the Sky King👑🕊️🤍
