A great idea for an mmo. I put in over 100 hours just to get a good feel for this game (as you cant really review an mmo without understanding most of what it has to offer).

The good:
-In depth character creation with build diversity. (Unless you're a meta slave, then you'll be a mounted archer)

-Large map

-Full loot PvP everywhere, even in towns makes encounters interesting (when you actually encounter people outside of starting towns)

-Chivalry style combat

The bad:
-Players far away from you render without their gear, good luck gauging if you'll stand a chance against someone until they're in your face.

-I said the map was large earlier, and thats true, however it feels very empty in its current state with very few dungeons and landmarks.

-Full loot PvP everywhere, while this sounds awesome on paper its actually very annoying for new/solo/casual/lifeskilling players. (This is the long part of my review) Personally I don't have a problem with PvP, as I think its fun. What isn't fun, is when a full guild of veteran players slaughter every new player in the town graveyards because they aren't geared well enough or have the knowledge to fight back and win. The amount of griefing in starting towns is insane. They have guards in the towns that can easily be avoided and/or glitched, so you can be killed in the center of a town and no one bats an eye. It got so bad starting out for me, that I had to join a guild and I only logged on with them (about 20 other players) just to be able to experience the other content this game has to offer. It is actually better to live in the lawless towns and the jungle rather than the starting towns if you want to progress your characters gear. One of the other big turn offs for me was you needed a huge guild if you wanted to try any of the new dungeons or go to an area with a boss to fight since you will be contested in these areas nonstop. This wouldn't be a big deal if these areas were instanced (the dungeons) with small scale PvP in order to stop smaller parties from being zerg rushed. All in all the PvP would be better if Star Vault can find a way to push PvP away from starting zones and into the rest of the world like lawless towns and high tier areas where it makes sense for it to happen all the time. The griefing is probably the biggest reason this game lost most players interest.

-The combat is honestly amazing except for one glaring thing that i find to be stupid as hell. Bayblade swordsmen. In order to actually be good at the melee combat in this game you have to spin around like you just let it rip. Watch any player duel in this game and you'll see they're spinning to win. (Yes its used as a tactic to confuse the person you're fighting and/or to connect your blow faster, that doesn't mean it looks any less stupid.) A good solution to fix this is to do what chivalry did and drastically slow mouse sensitivity when you swing a weapon, this allows you to turn into your strike for faster hit connection without turning into a helicopter blade.

I would recommend this game if you want to be a murder hobo in a survival game, but even then I'd wait for a sale. If you're looking for a good PvPvE mmo, this ain't it chief.

I left this game after discovering the horrible end game that was the watermark system. Came back almost a year later, water mark system is now called expertise and is much simpler to grind (you actually get to play the game to progress). How it works is just by simply playing outpost rush, fighting end game bosses, doing dungeons, and general pvp allows you to get gypsum orbs that you use to increase what was the watermark system. No more endless grinding in one area for gear drops hoping for gear score increases. Fast travel has been greatly improved with new fast travel points and lowered azoth cost. (New fast travel points are currently in the brimstone ptr) All in all I think new world is worth playing again with the QOL improvements and new content being added. Also did I mention mounts are coming soon.

This game is becoming plagued with microtransactions, used to be fun, but the grind is impossible at times plus you have to leave your PC running constantly to level up life skills and other aspects to your character. Overall it's not worth putting in the time since you don't feel rewarded and you'd be long dead before you could possibly catch up with the oldest of the playerbase.
