The Bing Chilling dialect branches off from Cantonese of the Sino-Tibetan family and is critically endangered with only one native speaker left in the entire world. The dialect in ancient times was said to hypnotize all who hear it to the speaker’s will. At its peak it was spoken by around 100,00 people under the Song Dynasty but was significantly halved during the Mongol invasions and the Yuan Dynasty. It never fully recovered during the times of the Ming or Qing dynasties and was driven to near extinction after the Cultural Revolution. Today, so little record of the language exists today that it was nearly considered to be Chinese mythology, however the last native speaker, Zhong Xina, has said otherwise and has assisted with preserving what is left of the ancient dialect that has been long forgotten.
