I played 20 hours in this game and was really enjoying it. It's a great game. Has just the right amount of tactical thinking and strategy without being exhausting to play. Seems appropriately balanced at the middle difficulty. Feels very rewarding when you execute the perfect play.

Unfortunately, it's broken. Every now and then there was a "wait... how did that happen? I thought my follower had more health than that..." moment. I usually assumed I was mistaken and moved on. Today, however, in a boss fight, twice I watched my health buff leader cards not register. They visually showed the health addition to my follower on the field, but when they were attacked, the health wasn't factored in. Additionally, the card play history shows no record of me using those leader cards to buff the follower.

To be more specific, I had a follower that starts with 1 health. I buffed them to 3 health (visually shown on the field), then a card or unit that did 1 damage killed the follower (without poison or any other reason to). In the card history log, there is no record of my follower having received that health buff.

Despite this unfair disadvantage, I managed to win that fight, but I now have to imagine how many times this has happened without me realizing it. Will it happen on a critical point in this run, my next run? It very much makes me not want to play this game anymore, despite how much I had been enjoying it.

Devs if you see this, I hope you are able to figure this out and fix it. Unfortunately, I don't record my games, so I can't show you this glitch in action. I did save my save files after this fight occurred. If that would somehow be helpful to you, I'd be happy to send them over.

If this is fixed, 100% would recommend this game at its full asking price, no question.

Wow. What a phenomenal game. 10/10

This game feels like a cross between Telltale games and Firewatch, and the result is amazing.

I was devastated when Telltale shut down, because I greatly enjoyed the genre of semi-involved, choices (sorta) matter, immersive-narrative games. However, I do not enjoy how disconnected Point & Click games feel, which is usually the only other option for that type of genre. However, this game, much like The Walking Dead and other Telltale games, creates a very immersive narrative experience.

The characters in this game have consistent and enjoyable (or not) personalities. Each time I move to a new location, I'm anxious to see who's part of the story I will be part of next. I'll sometimes be excited or scared to see a certain character appear. The situations sometimes get a little goofy and ridiculous, but never so absurd that it pulls me out of the narrative.

This game even makes it difficult to maintain an apathetic perspective in the face of growing evidence of the effects of tyranny - not something I expected a game to accomplish, least of all in me. Amazingly, this game does an extraordinarily great job of balancing immersion, emotions, and storytelling, without trying to shove "how you should feel" down your throat. It is a perfect game to enjoy, have an emotional connection with, and not constantly feel like it is trying to force you to feel a certain way.

The core plot (teenagers fleeing the country) is such an interesting base to create a game from, and they use it quite well. The first time I saw how you choose the next person to play as, I was blown away by how brilliant and immersive it was. Based upon where I am at, there has to be at least 10-15 hours of completely original game play with excellent storytelling here.

(If you haven't played yet, just skip this part, as it is very minor things that will just create a small bias when you go to play the game) If I were to nitpick, some areas of improvement for the next game might be to have the choices be more available or more consistent sometimes. Occasionally, it feels like I should have a 3rd or 4th option that is more in-line with how I am playing this chapter, or that sometimes the apathetic option feels like it is actually forcing me to pick an alignment. This is minor, however, and does not take away from the overall experience. Also, a couple of the areas you see multiple times have a little more walking than I prefer - the scenery is beautiful, however, and the curiosity of exploration and what is happening around you keeps those areas from becoming completely boring. Lastly, as other reviews have mentioned, the need to remind us that we're a "teen" is a little repetitive and needs toned down, but is not enough to be significantly annoying.

Buy this game, full price or on sale, it is 100% worth it (finally a great game that is reasonably priced!). I'm only 8 hours in and I haven't seen everything in my first play through yet. I wish I could get half of the immersion, enjoyment, and storytelling that this game accomplishes from other games that I've put double the time into.

I genuinely hope they will continue to make games, ideally similar games, and have more success than Telltale did. I would love to see this style of game translated into other stories, not just about teenagers fleeing a country. Please keep going Road 96 team! You're making something special here!

What the actual funk.

What used to be a good game has become an absolute garbage cash grab game OVERNIGHT.

In one foul swoop, they completely ruined the enjoyable quick-round with a brief respite in between by adding item purchasing between rounds. A "feature" NOBODY asked for or wanted.

Then, of course, the obligatory BATTLEPASS garbage.

I could have gotten over the Battlepass, the random movement speed increase to all heroes(???), and even their stupid Battle Royale (at least that left the regular game alone). However, the ITEMS addition is a new level of stupidity that just solidifies how much Stunlock wants to kill this game.

One of the biggest draws of this game is that it has no ITEM or LEVELING bullcrap in the way of the action, and now they're slowly adding that back in. Eventually there will probably be Mobs and Lanes added too so they can finish making this into a LoL clone like they obviously want to.

Absolutely pathetic Stunlock. Why are you so determined to kill your great games?

Cool game. If you're a big fan of Tower Defense games and are looking for something new that's based on the same formula, this is it.

It wasn't quite my style, but I can see the merits of the game and hope the developers continue to create interesting things.

Well done devs!

Beautiful.

Absolutely beautiful.

Unless you are a 100% adrenaline junkie, do not read any further. Buy this game and play it when you have 3-4 hours to devote to it.

Those of you who complain it's short. A painting doesn't have to be large to be beautiful. A song doesn't have to be hours long to be beautiful.

Appreciate it while it lasts. I'm sad that amazing experience ended so soon as well, but it was as close to perfection as you can find in a game today.

Please support these Devs. I need more games like this in my life. I think we all do.

Rust is the absolute worst game that has ever been made.

If you enjoy:
-Spending 20 hours just trying to start making a base because every kid that runs within 10,000 feet of you will try to kill you
-Spending 20 hours creating a base that is completely disfunctional because door mechanics are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ awful
-Spending 20 hours farming to have a gun, then losing it in 20 seconds
-Spending literal funking days farming for NO real reward whatsoever

Buy this game.

If you are a sane, reasonable person who doesn't like putting 10k hours into a game and having nothing to funking show for it, play something else. ANYTHING else.

You will actually spend real life DAYS: farming, building your base, farming, making guns, farming, making ammo, farming, making armor, farming, making explosives to raid someone, then most likely dying and losing all or part of the stuff you just spent days farming.

The thing that truly makes this game an ABOMINATION isn't the catastrophically bad farming & crafting system, or the horrificly toxic community, or the terrible mechanics. What really makes me want to obliterate this game from existence is the fact that even if you spend 5k hours in the game and get good, even if you become an EXTREME farmer, even if you master the terrible, AWFUL gunplay, you still have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to show for it.

Every week the servers wipe (most of them), and everything you worked for is gone.

The proportion of effort vs reward in this game is so catastrophically imbalanced. I can't believe anyone ever funking plays this game. Even if I had time to game constantly, there is still NO FUN to be had in this game that is worth all the work you have to put in.

If I can save just one person from trying this game, it will make the time writing this review worth it.

Absolute. Worst. Funking. Game. Ever. Made. Please let it die like the abomination that it is.

VERDICT: It is worth buying on sale for 50% off or more.

REVIEW:
So sad.

I fall for the FTL-LIKE hype every time. EVERY TIME.

And every time I am disappointed.

As others have said, the only FTL-like part is the map really.

What really kills this game though is the combat. It's so clunky and awkward to the point that it's impossible to manage with 3 or more people in your party. Unless you like to pause every 0.5 seconds, which I don't.

There was potential here, as it brings in the random event aspect in a good way. Things are mostly well-written and interesting. Lots of different events, though there could always be more.

Overall, if the combat had been more manageable, it'd be a recommend for me, despite the FTL-like nonsense.

I'm sad to write a negative review for this game. I was a Worms player long ago, and being a big fan of resource-management survival games, when I saw Team 17 was making one, WOOOO!

I anxiously awaited this game for months, maybe a year or more.

I was so very disappointed.

This game amounts to nothing more than a click-to-repair simulator.

Honestly, almost everything is unenjoyable.
-Poor combat
-Zero enemy scaling (I rarely ever take damage in combat, and if I do, it's miniscule)
-You have very little influence over certain things that decide whether one of your people lives or dies, unless you meticulously micro-manage where every single one of your people are.
-Meticulous, unenjoyable micro-management.
-Repetitive, Repetitive, Repetitive. You repair the same things, loot the same houses, "resolve" the same people situations. Even the silly little quests that pop up are just some greedy douchebag that tells you to bring them something, and then maybe they'll give you some nicer looking toilet that doesn't need repaired as often.

There is just really nothing fun about this game, and this is coming from someone who really wanted to like it. Someone who likes the Genre, and the Developers. Sorry Team 17. I know you can do better, and I hope you do next time!

Even on sale, my opinion is there is just no value to this game at all. Maybe at 60 or 75% off, if you think you'll enjoy it as a mindless zone-out game.

Shame really; I would have thoroughly enjoyed having a new challenging survival game, especially from a talented Developer.
