Just such a disappointment.

They delivered.
The single-player mode is fun, nerve-wrecking (sometimes frustratingly so) and extremely immersive.
While the single-player mode does lack in presentation sometimes I.E cut scenes and the sort, it makes up for it with pure immersion especially during missions, the gun play and animations are top-tier, your kit matters and gets alot of use and your AI teammates actually have AI behind them as they move, act and behave in a logical and tactical manner while providing useful things like call-outs when breaching, managing your squad during your missions and the game offering the ability to fully customize your squad which can get inflicted by high levels of stress and may even leave the force if not taken care of or they can die permanently if they are taken out during a mission really gets you attached to your squad in an X-com-like sense.
I have yet to experience all the different types of enemy AI in the missions but so far they do behave differently and offer different challenges.

The game does have a co-op PVE offering with up to 4 players, even more with mods as this game has mod support and a PVP mode in the works (Please Void) i do still find my self gravitating more towards the single-player experience at the moment as it offers unparalleled immersion in the tactical game space.

This is hands down the most immersive and most advanced small scale tactical fps on the market whether we're talking about game play, presentation and graphics, AI, mechanics and overall feel.
