I was absolutely sold on this game within the first hour of playing. It's cozy as hell, cute, endearing, charming, and fun.

This is a near-Hades-caliber game. Do not miss it. It's incredibly powerful. This game has changed how I view games.

The character design, the worldbuilding, the atmosphere, all phenomenal. Furthermore, the pacing of exposition and the way the narrative is handled is just spectacular. As a gamedev and writer myself, it's so refreshing to experience a world without hamfisted, unnatural spoonfeedings of lore. Instead, we're offered glimpses of a world that does not exist to serve or inform the player. It makes exploring the world addictive and makes the emotional, often gut-wrenching revelations about the characters and world feel organic and genuine.

At the start, I was also very vocal about bad writing choices they'd made to some friends. And the control scheme is unusual and was initially very frustrating. But honestly, I feel almost ashamed of my initial jaded assumptions, because it has become clear now that every single thing I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ about in my first hour of playtime was done intentionally and for great effect. Just keep playing this game.

I'm going to mourn when I finish this game and can't experience more of these characters' lives any longer.

if this game had a less stupid title it would be in top 20 games on steam. it's perfect in every way except the branding. it's so fun

Simply put--the wait was worth it. I'm SO stoked that they didn't water down the difficulty, or add a bunch of hand-holding mechanics. The soundtrack slaps too. This is the perfect blend of remake and remaster.

Never had motion sickness in any game before this one. And this one is unplayable as a result. Having tried a dozen different attempted fixes, I'm positive it's because of the bizarre fisheye lens effect distorting the edges of the screen. Zooming in the FOV helps somewhat but doesn't fix it entirely. Just averts crippling nausea by 15-20 minutes instead of hitting in 1. Really hope they add an option to remove the fisheye lens effect in future patches. If they do, I'll change my review.

tentative recommendation just because the raw potential is so huge. The best possible summary is that New World at its core is Risk RuneScape EVE Online. It has a huge amount of promise. But over the last few weeks the developers have responded to bugs/player exploiting in some of the most hamfisted and counter-productive ways possible. It really feels like they're trying to kill their own game.

The first few weeks after launch were the most fun I've had gaming in 15 years. The potential is there. The price is great. The world is beautiful. The gameplay and mechanics feel unique.

If they quit removing core gameplay mechanics (like disabling all trading / auction house for days on end, when 100% of the economy is player-created), added more than 4 kinds quests all based around kill this thing, collect 5 of these, talk to so and so and come back, and added more than 10 kinds of reskinned enemies, this would be Game of the Year.

The fact that all that is wrong with it and it's still a great game should be telling.

Pretty good so far. The original demo was good and the full game seems solid too. Feels pretty unique, haven't seen many games like it that have such serious and adult-oriented subject matter.

Incredibly atmospheric. Great soundtrack. Amazing voiceacting. This game is going to be a hit and I can't wait for the full release.
