The removal of Steam from the website's footer is the most damning move by Gaijin.

Not only do you refuse to actually make the game satisfying to play at all "tiers," you also want to sweep consumer discourse under the rug.

your money tornado has been in a spiral for a long time with the constantly shifting "meta".

It'd be a shame if folks starting googling "warthunder steam" to push that result to the top of the list...

Game is still plagued by BR compression from Gaijin trying to make the game 'almost' fun.

Early Access Review
AI response time is much more reasonable now.

Old:
Currently unplayable outside of single player if you wanna do anything besides stinger/gas/flash every room with enemies.

The AI is absolutely broken and will dump all over you and your ancestors. https://i.imgur.com/WvIQiPF.mp4

The only reason you can play singleplayer at all is the AI Swat are just as busted as the suspects...

VOID, Fix your mess...I hope whomever was responsible for this got relieved of duty.

Here's my experience as I played it...

Open the game and the splash screen, main menu, and every screen outside of gameplay is in 4:3 aspect ratio. You're hit with classic ear rattling menu music but there are no volume sliders in game at all. If you want to lower the volume you have to alt-tab and open the volume mixer.

Not really sure why they even bothered with the graphics options, it all still looks like hot garbage regardless of your selections. The play area is a floating table with a cheap backdrop an obvious antique by the 2020 release date standards.

The game isn't even hard, It's artifically made complicated by unintuitive controls. Albeit one could get used to the controls but it's apparent there was little to no effort improving the antiquated control scheme. Camera is clunky and controlled by the WASD/QE, arrow keys, and a sprinkling of mouse wheel. All the movement and command hotkeys are spread across the keyboard instead of being centered around WASD. If you're wanting to click and drag to select multiple units you have to hold shift to do so and even then there's an easily visible delay before the box opens. About every time I wanted to quickly move multiple units, the box would miss the mark by opening too late. I just don't see how this could be so bad when C&C, Starcraft, and AoE both had this figured out in the 90s.

All in all, it's perfect for the old farts out there who stopped playing PC games in the 90s because this is exactly where you left off, except that you probably weren't paying $115-160 for the game and all of the expansions then.

For the rest of us just get MoW Assault Squad or Call to Arms. Granted they have a terrible monetization model as well but they at least have workshop support for implementing modern combat elements and more.

TL;DR
-no in-game volume sliders
-graphics straight out of the stone age
-every screen outside of the gameplay is presented in a 4:3 aspect ratio
-bad camera controls
-bad movement controls
-you have to know how AND have the ability to port forward your router and add a firewall rule to play online
-no coop, only PVP that plays like chess with extra steps.

TL;DR Yes, you should get this.

This is what remasters should be like. 100% fan service, All the expansions, All missions from the console versions, fully remastered sound track, hot swapping textures new/old, modern RTS control schemes, and devs who really love what they do. All that for $20? hell yea.

As for all of you pissing and moaning about path finding, I don't think you really wanted RA remastered...You want RA4 by Petroglyph.

Otherwise, you would have paid attention to the development. A while back, Petro realized that THEY COULDN'T FIX THE PATH FINDING WITHOUT BREAKING THE AI COMPLETELY. Get with the program.

Besides that, this is how the path finding was back in the day. I can't understand how badly you negative reviewers have to suck at this game to have the path finding be a deal breaker. Like seriously, I beat this game when I was 7.

The game in it's entirety is ok, but it's not infallible.

Before I get into it, i'm not perfect either. I'll make edits as I remember things and if things are corrected.

Here are my Pros and Cons.

Pros

-It looks good. Great textures, animations, and the grass even looks better than in some bigger scoped games.

-It sounds amazing. The dinos all sound good and with a proper illusion of distance when necessary. Even the starter motor sound for the 93' Jeep skin is correct, it sounds exactly like a 4.0L I6 Jeep engine.

-Setting up exhibits is really satisfying. It's not just throwing animals in a pen and making a path for people to see. Instead you have to figure out how certain dinos fit in with others OR you can genome edit the entire behavior of a dinosaur later in the game. I feel like that it gives it some necessary depth AND allows for increased creativity.

-Managing the needs of your guests is easier than making PB&J. Like nearly impossible to ♥♥♥♥ up unless you're illiterate, dyslexic, or you're purposely torpedoing your own park. The various needs of the guests are centered around the exhibits and hotels and there are easily accessed "percentage of guests satisfied" data metrics. (My only original gripe was it seems pretty damned flagrant of FDev to not include restrooms at launch. It just makes no sense to me that FDev could be so involved in RCT franchise but it would take them over a year to think of toilets. Wtf? If you haven't played in a while you now have to start over OR rearrange your old parks to accommodate.)

Cons

-The most obvious annoyance in the beginning are the time gates. It feels like a mobile game sometimes, why not have a mini game for the fossil extraction instead of just watching a timer tick down?. (Pro in the Con: I feel like this is partially made up for by the interactivity of the Ranger jeeps and ACU Helos. They give you something to do while waiting, and once you get a park going you will have plenty to work on with how spastic the dinos are)

-The dinosaur path finding logic, is what any person should consider "stupid". I first chocked it up to just dinos being stupid, but after some further testing I now feel that it was made "good enough" and left as is. Dinos survived for hundreds of millions of years without human interaction, but now these guys are incapable of even finding new areas for food or water inside an enclosure? Inside bigger enclosures, they will not leave an area until they are uncomfortable enough to go attack a fence. If moving to attack a fence gets them closer to a less crowded area, they'll still attack the fence FIRST and then meander off instead of focusing on fixing their own ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ needs. Dinos already sprint to the nearest body of water after being released regardless of the distance they have to travel. If there's fence between the hatchery and pond it'll make dinos run around the ENTIRE map (map permitting) to get there and they'll ignore every other pond they happen to walk past on the way there)

And that's not even the stupidest part. Upset dinos don't care if the fence they attack is actually a functional section. You can place a few open sections of fence in the center of your enclosure and if that's closer, they'll attack that fence instead of your real one. Seriously doubt that's intended gameplay. My suggestion would be to just "handwave" some explaination about how the dinos can smell food/water from miles away. Have the dinos "check" the population around feeders before moving there or something. That would make the same true for the smells of other dinos.

Being that I own 3 of their 5 current games (PC,JW, and ED) I think I'm in a good enough to position to NOT recommend this or any of FDevs "new" games. They all feel like they only gave themselves enough time to get about half their ideas in.

They also have a habit of not reiterating on features in all of their games. i.e. ED is my favorite VR game, but VR isn't even going to be part Odyssey at release.

If you thought the controls were bad, try forcing vsync off and play in chipmunk mode.

I never even played the PC version before and I have to say I think the low frame rate of the 64 covered up a lot of the issues this game actually has. Did the PC always have autoaim too? because I remember a goldeneye-esque aim reticle before.

the baked in controls are terrible...Whoever decided to retain player character forward/back movement on the mouse is an evil person IMO. You can change the rest, just not that.

There are also no sensitivity sliders in the controls which usually doesn't bother me with an adjustable dpi mouse but then it still feels like my mouse sat in gum. The point of focus is being constantly being pulled back to the center of the screen like a joystick.

Game speed is also tied directly to the FPS. On the first level (Hoth) I was being forced "back into battle" about every half second. Normally I leave vsync off and use freesync instead. The games menus lack any options for turning Vsync on/off...or really anything graphics related besides the resolution and a handful of options most of you won't even mess with anyway. For me, forcing VSync on outside of the game was the only way to make the game playable.

Despite the abysmal frame rate of the N64, I played this game so much as a kid that I've still memorized the Debug cheatcode. And I think that's kind of sad that I prefer the choppy console version to this Steam release. This isn't fan service, It's minimal effort shovelware.

Save your $2 and buy a soda instead. You'd probably enjoy that more.
