Another wonderful action/exploration game, except this time every man that is relevant to the story is like 7 feet tall when standing next to Lara for some reason. This was gifted to me on my birthday (love you, ZeeMeeuw) because for some reason I, a Tomb Raider lover, haven't played until recently. Solid recommend if you like a healthy balance between the classic amateur-parkour-in-1k-year-old-ruins that TR is known for and being an absolute gremlin in firefights.

For most of the game, I thought it didn't really compare to Tomb Raider (2013) in terms of general fun. I could've swore that I was engaged 100% of the time in Tomb Raider, and I was engaged for only 60-70% of the time in this game instead. There's a very good chance I was just looking back at it through rose-tinted lenses, though.
It ended up being delightfully good, and it definitely lives up to the expectations of everyone whos played and reviewed it as "da best toom raydah game."
I only have two gripes about this game. One is that in the previous game, you could dodge and throw dust in the eyes of enemies and WHALE on them, but in this game, its just an execution. It feels much less rewarding, and it's more comparable to playing as Shevah from RE5 than Lara Croft. The other issue is that pretty much every single enemy in the game has a fully automatic firearm, which is a massive disconnect from the ranged/melee combat mix that the previous game had, and is probably why they changed the dodge counter to an instant kill execution as previously mentioned. The actual issue with that is extremely trivial and amounts to basically nothing, so this is barely an issue.

If you played 2013 Tomb Raider, you'll find your muscle memory coming back to you easily, because a lot of mechanics are very similar. You would *think* that it would take away from the experience, but surprisingly, it doesn't. It just makes the game more comfortable. If you play on any difficulty less than Seasoned Raider, you're simply not good at video games btw.

Also, holy hell this game runs amazingly well for no good reason. It's beautiful and I expected it to hurt my less-than-ideal PC, but I stayed at above 100 fps from start to finish.

...wait, this game has multiplayer? who the hell cares about multiplayer in a Tomb Raider game?

figured I'd make an actual honest review instead of just calling it 'twinkborne' and moving on with my day, so here's a tldr; Lies of P is absolute breath of fresh air in the soulslike genre, and is definitely worth your time.

as someone who is a bonafied fan of the Dark Souls series, a conqueror* of parry timing in Sekiro, and a soothsayer of the (hopefully) inevitable Bloodborne PC port, Lies of P is one of the best soulslikes that aren't made by Fromsoft.
(* = accurate 100% of the time in some cases)

It takes very obvious inspiration from Dark Souls and Bloodborne, one being most of the mechanics, and the post-apocalyptic unspeakable-horror-riddled victorian-era city you start out in (the UK), but it also introduces new ideas and mechanics that I didn't think I would actually find useful, and ended up being pretty neat. Some of which include; the grinder, a way to infinitely restore the durability of your weapon whenever you damn please, grindstones, which are one time (later multiple) use consumables that imbues your equipped weapon with whatever element grindstone you have equipped. Another really interesting mechanic, and probably my favorite by far, is P-Organ customization. As you proceed in Lies of P, you'll come across 'quartz' every now and then, which will allow you to basically make a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ build WHILE unlocking new abilities like shinobi arts from Sekiro. what ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ genius came up with that? stat boosts, item improvements, and heal-item increases all in one??? sign me tf up
just to be clear, if you aren't happy with the upgrades you've spent quartz on, as well as any levels, you CAN reset them for a currency separate from the main one.
don't worry, it's not hard to get to. go look up a guide or something if you can't find it.

the story itself is beyond beautiful and genuinely keeps you on the edge of your seat the ENTIRE time. A soulslike, let alone any game, hasn't done that since DS3. As the game goes on, the line between human and puppet draws so very thin. Many games have entertained this thought, such as Fallout, Detroit: Become Human, even I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream by Harlan Ellison. But in my completely honest opinion, no game does it better than Lies of P. This game has so much love put into it, and I pray that it goes down as one of the best soulslikes ever. But seriously, don't just take my word for it, go play it yourself if you haven't already. I've already played this game to almost full completion once, and I will likely do it many more times.

Actual TLDR; extremely challenging, a little harder than most dark souls games, phenomenal story, but a very long one by comparison. def worth your money.

also "What if I made a puppet of a human, the way they made humans of puppets?" is the hardest quote in the entire damn game. I love Arlecchino, I wish italians were real.

EDIT: I did, in fact, finish the game before the update came out that made it a little bit easier, and I am, in fact, much cooler than before. Please believe me.

Early Access Review
probably the best multiplayer SCP (4 recommended) co-op experience currently available on PC. if you aren't coordinated, things will only get more difficult, and around every corner is something that can probably rip you a new one, so play safe, and be afraid of the dark.
(and the fact that its not even finished raises my respect for this game so much more)

running from total nuclear annihilation has never been so fun
