Disclaimer: I am a backer for their Kickstarter campaign.

One of the best games I have backed from crowdfunding, and I am very happy with the outcome!

The game is pretty fun, the graphics and musics are top notch, and the overall fights and puzzles are very satisfying.

My Score: 9.5/10

Contains a lot of S-Tier Pay2Win exotic guns! Thumbs down for locking them behind paywall.
Dungeon and raid is not really worth the full price.

Recommend to only buy them on sale, for completion sake.

Game is nice, BUT only if you keep buying the expansions and season passes, and have friends to play with (join a clan!).

F2P experience is very bad, and the game make no effort to introduce new players.

The PvP community is mildly toxic (it's pretty bad, but not the worst comparing with other competitive FPS). The PvE side is a lot better. It's pretty easy to find friendly players to play together if you know where to find.

The story content is getting better nowadays, but there have been quite a few questionable patches every now and then. The devs are very transparent with the patches and communication with their players.

Edit: Nothing changed. Edited for Steam Awards.

Too expensive. Just a FOMO-inducing nostalgia trap for Destiny whales. You only get one dungeon, an exotic rocket, and a few sets of cosmetic. With this kind of price, your money is better spent on a full game, or even several discounted older AAA games.

The dungeon is fun, but just not worth this price point. Wait for discount, or just skip it.

DISCLAIMER: I did not buy it myself. I planned to skip it. Got it for free, gifted by a friend.

Very well made. It's like Portal, but with time travel. Very challenging, and very satisfying if you managed to solve it. This could very well worth to be a paid DLC, and yet it is free!

DISCLAIMER: I play exclusively on the single player campaign only. I have played the original non-remastered version.

Great graphical upgrade from the original game

For comparison sake, I have replayed the original game a little before starting this remastered version. To be honest, the graphical improvement is awesome! I've read the other reviews that this game caused a lot of crashes. Fortunately it doesn't happen to me at all. I can play the game almost perfectly with no technical issues at all (except for maybe the longer load time and the occasional stutter during the mission briefing while it was pre-loading the shaders). Maybe because it was due to all the tweaks that I have done on my PC to play Advanced Warfare last time.

Steam Achievements

The original game does not have Steam achievements, so I think this is a notable added feature for this remastered version. However, it takes a lot of effort and luck for 100% completion, it totally wasn't worth the time and effort. Some of the achievements are very unfair challenges. They are totally not fun to even try.

Gameplay and story

The story is exactly the same as the original game. The level design was good back then, but feels a little dated when compared to today's standard. It is still fun to play through if you can lower your expectation a little.

I don't like the fact that they decided to remaster just the graphics, and did not even bother with re-balancing the game. The enemy spawn is still terribly scripted (they spawn almost indefinitely if you aren't moving forward), the grenade spam and RPG spam is very annoying to deal with, and there are a lot of timed missions that put you in very difficult situations, which aren't any fun to play in (even on the easiest difficulty). They were acceptable back then, but not enjoyable if compared to today's standard.

Conclusion

It is a very nice graphical upgrade to the original game. Other than that, there are no other positive improvement.

Not worth the purchase as a standalone game. If you care about the story, get the original non-remastered version. It is way cheaper, and you don't miss out that much.

But if Infinite Warfare is on sale, this is a great bonus to buy it bundled together.

DISCLAIMER: I play exclusively on the single player campaign only.

A small little twist in the Call of Duty genre

Compared to all the other Call of Duty games before this, it really is different. Everything feels different for this game. It no longer is a full-on linear shooter game. It now has side missions, collectible upgrades, weapons customization, space battles etc. I wouldn't say it is a bad thing, but I don't feel it is good thing too, considering I am playing a Call of Duty game expecting a no-brainer action-packed linear story game experience.

The campaign story is pretty nice. Very nice plot and character development. However, compared to some previous titles, it lacks the variety of missions. It mainly only splits into a few types of action, and juggle between them: classic ground-based cover shooter; zero-gravity shooter; and spaceship dogfight. The spaceship battles are very enjoyable, but it gets boring and repetitive very fast.

Technical review

I am not sure why the others are having any technical issues, because I definitely do not. I even think this game is quite well-optimized. The graphics feels like a downgrade though compared to Advanced Warfare. Many textures are blurry, the look-and-feel of the guns and spaceships feels dated. The controls are smooth, and the audio and music are quite nice.

One big issue for me: The game size is FREAKING HUGE! It takes up about 100GB of disk space! Be aware of this fact, especially if you have low disk space or slow download speed.

Personal pet peeves

The weapons in this game feel like a toys. It just goes pew-pew-pew. It doesn't give me the satisfaction of shooting a real gun. It doesn't look like a gun, it doesn't sound like a gun. And when you have fully upgraded your suit and weapon attachments, it doesn't even have any recoil! It doesn't feel satisfactory to me.

And also, thanks to Neil deGrasse Tyson, now I can't help but to notice the unrealism in this game. SOUND DOES NOT TRAVEL THRU SPACE! I understand it is for entertainment purpose, but... It feel weird to be able to hear gunshots and explosion when you are floating in space.

Conclusion

A very nice game in itself, it just doesn't feel like a Call of Duty game.

Simple casual game. I can't say I enjoyed it a lot, in fact after a few stages I kinda feel bored playing it. Justifiable for this price though. The sequel is way better.

I play exclusively on the single player campaign only. I do not play any multiplayer at all, so my review will only be relevant to the single player.

Awesome graphics! (if you can get it to work)

The graphics are very awesome to look at, especially when playing on high or ultra level graphics settings. The weapons, environments, human faces, all are near photo-realistic. Some facial expressions still feel uncanny and unnatural especially in cutscenes, but all in all it still looks great! However, the game is not very optimized for PC hardware, and there's a very high chance the game will have a lot of technical issues.

Nice gameplay

The gameplay feels good, just as expected from the Call of Duty franchise. The story campaign has a very nice balance on different types of gameplay, including classic cover-based action shooter, some stealth sections, playing on different vehicles etc. The level designs are pretty well done and enjoyable. The futuristic setting also brings along a lot of interesting weapons and techniques, they are pretty fun to play with.

Story is boring and cliché

The character personalities are very one-dimensional, the plot narration are too compact, and the plot twists are introduced too early and too frequent, making the whole story telling to be very shallow. The game's cutscenes and music makes it worse. The cutscenes doesn't tell much story, it feels like they are there just to showcase the very nice graphics, and nothing more. The musics are integrated very badly. Too often, there are huge segments of the game without any background music.

Technical Issues

Despite having a moderately high-end PC myself, the game have many technical issues by default. It has very terrible screen tearing. If V-Sync is enabled in-game, it will cause a very terrible input lag. There are very bad stuttering and even random crashes. The mouse sensitivity behaves very weirdly, I suppose it was due to bad console port on the devs part.

The load time for each level are also pretty bad. It takes up to 2 minutes just to load a level (this is on SSD). Tolerable, but annoying.

Fortunately, thanks to the community, there are very good guides out there listing different types of issues and solutions for that. After spending some time configuring and tweaking, eventually I managed to play the game almost perfectly.

Also, the game takes up 60 GB of disk space! I'm glad that it separates out single player and multiplayer, so the game files can be smaller if you only play one of it. Still, beware of this fact especially when you have low harddisk space or slow download speed.

Conclusion

This game is not worth the full price, considering the bad story and the technical issues.

If it comes on sale, or when the price is further reduced when it is older, I think it is still a reasonable purchase (IF you have a good enough hardware to play on higher graphics settings).

I have played and completed the old versions before they combined the main game and the DLC into one single Director's Cut version. After some years, I went and replay this new version again. I gotta say, it is still a damn good game! I gave the old version and the DLC a 10/10 back in the days, and now I am giving this Director's Cut version another 10/10 again!

Here are some of the old reviews that I wrote for the original version and its DLC, and added some new comments for the Director's Cut version.

Real consequences for different playstyle

There are many possibilities for different play-style. You can play as a silent pacifist assassin and sneak past the whole game without killing anyone, or you could go Rambo and shoot every enemy on sight. You can even talk your way thru some of the stages, giving you full clearance to explore without having to deal with enemies or alarms. Each choices and playstyle will affect the storyline in the game, and not just an illusion of choice, it actually affects the future game play. Because of this, the replayability is very high, you can replay the entire game with a totally different style and get a totally different experience.

I have completed the game in 3 playthroughs, and I made sure to choose different game choices in each. I still discover different things to do and experience different outcome for each playthrough.

Technical Review

The controls and storyline might need some time to get used to at the start, but once you completed the game at least once, you'll love it!

The graphics are pretty good. Although you can't compare this game with graphical wonders like the Crysis series, the entire game is quite consistent in its Cyberpunk theme, and it still holds up to this day. The dev team put a lot of efforts into details, making the game very nice and immersive. The music isn't very memorable, but it blends in the the setting of the game very nicely, enhancing the Cyberpunk mood of the game. I would say the game is very well optimized, there isn't any noticable lag, and the load times are very minimal even on very high graphical setting.

One thing that bothers me more than it should, is the Chinese voice acting. The dev team tried to create player immersion by introducing Chinese speaking voices into the game when you travel to China, however, being a native Chinese speaker myself, I can't help but to be bothered by how bad the Chinese are. The Chinese vocabulary is weird, the grammer is wrong, and the accent feel forced. Probably not much difference in experience if you don't know Chinese natively. I'd say the devs had good intention, but bad execution.

Director's Cut

The biggest difference that I know of, is they combined the Missing Link DLC into the base game chronologically. I think they did this flawlessly. And they added a "Commentary" mode where you can listen to the dev team's discussion while experiencing the game itself. Pretty interesting.

They also improved the boss fights a lot, giving the player way more choices on how to defeat the bosses. I remember the old days of being forced to brute force fight your way thru the bosses, but for the Director's Cut version it no longer is the case. You can potentially win a boss fight without firing a single bullet, by exploring the fighting grounds and discovering alternative way to damage the bosses, via turret hacking or laying mines.

For achievement hunters

Although in theory you can get 100% completion in one single playthrough, I would recommended playing the game at least 2 playthrough in order to take advantage of the New Game plus feature. Also it is much more enjoyable to blind playthrough the first time to fully enjoy the game, and then consult a guide online for the 2nd playthrough.

All the achievements are pretty doable, with a few very challenging ones that requires you to follow some strict rules. There is one collectible achievement that is missable, so be sure to abuse the save/load feature while attempting the more challenging ones.

Conclusion

Fantastic game!

My score: 10/10 (Must play!)
