this game was passionately designed for folks who really enjoy the niche lore tidbits of the dead by daylight universe and understand the overarching world the game has built. i think without that prior knowledge the story would be rather mediocre.

it"s a fun singleplayer experience and managed to keep me engaged the entire way through with the characters and writing. the performance was shoddy at best and i wish optimization was worked on a bit before release, as spending the first 30 minutes tweaking settings so it runs on a 3060 is laughable.

i found almost all of the characters engaging, notably madi, older linda, and the original 80s murder mill film gang all had unique personalities and i definitely felt encouraged to tread carefully to ensure their safety.

frank stone went a LOT harder than i thought he would, i was expecting him to be a much more boring slasher but the visual design by the end of the game was great. also kudos to the way he kills some of the folks with his chest ♥♥♥♥♥, it rocks.

many games like this normally aren"t my cup of tea, i think so called "movie games" are generally meh and as a result the actual gameplay felt pretty stale, i was enjoying the movie over the game. the parts where you ward off frank stone with the camera felt bland and i thought the camera being moved was annoying. i never felt like i had to manage my camera either because you could hold m1 and spam the R button to instantly crank every time.

i encountered a few bugs, notably spamming m1 will lag the game, when returning to past areas with the chests sometimes jumpable objects just don"t have collision anymore (meaning you instantly teleport to the ground) and the ending video was just black despite the audio playing (and the frame rendering if I alt+tabbed).

the ending chase sequence i had with frank rocked and i had a great time with basically the entire third act of the game, it made me feel engaged and the quick decision making was a nice change of pace.

the entire ending around the campfire was superb, i genuinely didn"t realize where i was until i saw that campfire and i lost my ♥♥♥♥. seeing og survivors there and familiar characters waiting as well was such a nice touch.

generally, this game probably misses the mark if you aren"t a dbd lore enthusiast or have no interest in the lore at all. if you don"t know who the black vale is, augustine probably won"t make much sense. if you don"t understand aspects of individual killer lore and tomes, some items you find around will make no sense either.

i loved the cultish depiction of the black vale in this, and the various gorey paintings were so cool to see.

overall, i love this game, but have the understanding that it"s definitely not going to work for everyone, especially those with excessive expectations. for me it"s personally a 7.5/10 - i would rate it higher if it wasn"t for the performance issues and if it wasn"t for the fact that you kind of need to know at least a bit about dbd lore for this to stick even somewhat as effectively as it did with me.

Helldivers 2 sets an exceptional standard for what live service should be. It"s a fun PVE title with a focus on being immersed in the story that"s being told. The game itself assigns "major orders" to players, which are essentially large challenges the community has to complete as a whole in order to further themselves in a large scale galactic war that can be tracked in-game and via social media. It redefines in a lot of ways how multiplayer live service should be done for the better and I"d love to see other studios take note (besides what happened with the account linking, but hey, maybe publishers should *also* take some notes here).

Video Horror Society (VHS) is a 4v1 asymmetrical action game focused on a competitive-but-fun balance.

I played in the previous closed beta and have put total ~250 hours (+ whatever I have on Steam here) into the game as a whole.

Every mechanic in this game feels intensely well thought out, the progression system feels phenomenal (aside from a couple challenges), and the overall design of the core gameplay loop is fun and engaging.
Of course, VHS, like any other live service game, will have bugs and issues. Though I"d like to mention that the number of issues in VHS compared to other live service games or similar titles is significantly lower - and the developers frequently engage and update the community on issues and solutions and are exceptionally transparent when doing so - they clearly care and put players first.

This game is free - if and when you get the chance give it a shot! It might be your cup of tea it might not be - but it"s certainly a whole lot of fun!
