A classic re-imagined, with the perfect blend of nostalgia and the feeling of discovering something new in neat little package of a game

I don"t generally review games, but this abomination definitely deserves one.

As a Wolfenstein game it is complete and utter garbage, as a shooter and co-op game it is not that bad except the game makes even that unfun and unbearable. The most infuriating thing is the enemy spawns, which will spawn behind you in stupid numbers (sometimes 5-9 enemies just around the corner). The map design is probably the most laziest I have seen, 5-6 maps that you will run around over and over and over and over and over again without any changes to them (aside of some shortcuts). The sewer sections or rather 30min of complete darkness sections are the most fun I have had in any game, might as well put a blindfold and hope you are running in the right direction while having enemies spawn behind you every couple of meters.

Character wise it falls flat as well, the 2 protagonists that you play as are probably the most unlikable characters that i had the displeasure of playing as. The constant banter and the actions that they keep performing make it seem that they were written by a 12 year old, to a point that I wished that they were both mute. The one word that can describe them perfectly is Cringe, from cutscenes to ingame actions they are nothing more than just cringe, no depth, no story, no nothing, just cringe.

The RPG elements, level gating and different kinds of armor/shield mechanic further ruin the game experience. RPG elements and level gating are nothing more than just padding the game time as a way of forcefully stopping your game progress and forcing you to do boring "fetch this, fetch that" side missions which all take place in the same 5-6 maps that the game has. The different armor types that the enemies have are plain annoying and once again are there for artificial difficulty, "Oh, you"re using a gun that is different form the one suggested for this one enemy? Then be prepared to empty multiple magazines before it dies." Boss fights are also nothing more than boring bullet sponges to a point where you end up using up all of your ammo on multiple guns.

Overall the game had potential, but unfortunately it is completely wasted and is hands down the worst game of the franchise where the gameplay turns into an infuriating mess of "go back and forth, fetch this, kill this, level up so you can progress through the same map to do the same exact thing, rinse and repeat." A good example on how to take an already working formula for a game and ignore it thus turning this abomination of a game into an unfun experience which is 100% not worth the time nor money.

The campaign is fairly good with a decent mix of mission types and difficulty, except Omicron Laboratory... ♥♥♥♥.THAT.MISSION.

Hands down one of the best RPGs that I have played in a very long time. The game offers the perfect mix of player choice for quests and exploration as well as an in-depth character customisation. A must try for any RPG lovers.
