It's a classic for a reason. Holds up shockingly well today, and there's about 15 quadrillion mods and levels floating around out there for this one and its sequel.

(PS - if you have the .wad file that comes with the game, there's a ton of fan ports to check out too - one of which will probably be a better fit for you than the Steam version, although this port is generally pretty good and fine for a first playthrough.)

Generally more polished than Crusader Kings 2, and much better looking, but sacrificing little of the depth. Highly recommended. Already beats the base Crusader Kings 2 game with no DLCs by a country mile, and a few expansions down the line you will never want to go back to CK2. Many of the great features you had to pay for in CK2 are in the base game, like being able to play as pagans and muslims, and there are a lot of interesting new features like the Dread mechanic, Dynasty renown, making your own religion, Cadet branches, and more that make this a very worthy successor to CK2. Most (if not all) of the changes I've seen from 2 I've enjoyed, aside from a few DLC features that were added in years after launch in 2 there's really nothing missing here. Amazing game, good job Paradox!
9/10 (and I might bump this up with some added playtime)

Play this game if you enjoy strangers murdering you for no reason whatsoever.

Early Access Review
Story of my first ever colony

>Start doing ♥♥♥♥
>Make corn farm, see no problem
> Jim and Sally (not real names, I forgot) fall in love
>Everything's doing great
>I didn't realize corn takes like 30 days to mature
>Slowly run out of food
> Jim gets mauled by rabid squirrel
> Random cavemen come and try and wreck my people, get killed but at a cost
> New girl comes in, she's a naked refuge, named Leia
> Everyone slowly goes from partying every day to slowly dying off
> Sally experiences withdrawal from the weird ass drugs I accidentally gave her
> Everyone starts starving
> People start breaking
> Sally goes psychotic, wanders off into wild, goes comatose
> Sally dies, Jim (still madly in love with her) dies
> Leia dies
> It's just Tim now
> Another new girl comes in (for no real reason, why not go to the city two map tiles away), tries to tend to Tim
> Tim starts resorting to cannibalism, eating parts of Sally, Jim, and some of the attackers from earlier
> Tim tries to romance her, gets turned down breaking his already fragile psyche
> New girl keeps trying to nurse Tim and keep herself from starving
> Corn still not growing, I try to get rice
> Tim finally snaps, starts attacking new girl
> New girl flees and falls unconscious
> Tim attacks dog
> Dog slowly bleeds to death (in severe pain)
> Tim slowly bleeds to death because he tried to fight random animals
> New girl dies, Tim dies not long afterwards
> I decide to check the rice I planted 2 days before
> 95%
> 9 5 %
> If I had planted the rice literally 2 days before I did they would've probably survived

This game did what EA couldn't.

As in, make an actual modern Sim City.

Sim City 5 or whatever you want to call it is trash, this is the real sequel to Sim City 4

It's only about 2-3 hours long (if you're not going out of your way to do some crazy things to technically 100% it) but there's some really interesting witty commentary on the nature of gaming. Very unpretentious, but at the same time thought-provoking.

Trust me, even at full price this game is still kinda worth it, and if it's on a sale for less than five dollars... Just get it.

Be prepared to be confused.

One of the best puzzle games out there; the story is intelligent, the voice acting is the best in the industry, and the puzzles themselves are both intensely challenging and exciting.

A trigger-happy action game that has exactly the right amount of luck and challenge.

I'd give it a 10/10 if it were not for the fact that the updates are slow to say the least and that the game isn't exactly the most stable. It's still a blast, though.

9/10
