I really loved this game, it was just the thing for me. I liked V2, but the missions in this game are larger open maps where you are given the opportunity to plan out your attack and tackle it in various ways (sort of like Thief 1 and 2). For people who expect an action game and play it as such, they might find the experience a bit short, and I'm hesitant in recommending this to someone looking for good action schüt. As a stealth game however, it is amazing. It took me about 20 hours to complete the game on normal difficulty, as I played it like a stealth game. There's a good amount of tools at your disposal and the mechanics are much better thought out. There's also a lot of collectibles and other modes to keep people busy, like co-op, multiplayer and challenges.
If stealth sniping in the desert sounds fun, you will almost surely enjoy this game.

To start with the big iffy point people might have with this game, the game has unexpectedly challenging combat if you're expecting a Zelda-like. It expects you to take the offensive and use the dodge roll a lot, and you'll need to learn enemy and boss patterns to succeed. If one can get past this, the combat is actually really rewarding once you figure it out.

Everything else about the game is simply amazing. An open-ended overworld with a lot of dungeons and caves that can be tackled in any order, coupled with fun items and a nice sense of humour. The aesthetics are especially great, with an amazing 3D art style and a soundtrack that is worth the $10 on Bandcamp.

Game did not disappoint one bit. Big props to all the devs.

Despite the original Disgaea being the most limited of the games in the series, gameplay-wise, the basics are all here and functional, and polished enough for the game to still be amazingly fun this many years later. Arguably having the better story of the series, with the best character development (while not taking itself too seriously, like the rest of the series), the PC release also includes all the extra content from the PSP release, and some from the DS version well.
All in all, this game comes highly recommended to anyone who likes strategy RPGs (like FF Tactics or Fire Emblem), and to those who haven't tried one yet, this is a great entry point. Prepare to unleash mighty combos and hit, throw and grind your way to level 9999 and back!
