If I had to sum up this game in three words, it would be "dwarf combat miners". If I had to sum it up in five words, it would be "really cool dwarf combat miners".

DRG is an incredible game - it's simple to learn with perfect variable difficulty levels, but complex to master with tons of different weapon modifications, as well as two alternate unlockable weapons per class.

Progression is gauged really well; you have to level up individual classes to unlock more gear customizations so that you're not overwhelmed by all the customizations immediately. There's also an overall level (3 class levels = 1 overall level) that's also used to gate some unlocks, so you're encouraged to play different classes early on to get a feel for them. However, it's by no means necessary to have to enjoy or be good at every class; it's totally possible to just only play one or two classes. You can also prestige a class every 25 levels (prestiges beyond the first per class are purely for show).

The procedural generation is REALLY good. The caves feel incredibly cave-y - they do a great job of having a mix of huge, open caverns and small, cramped tunnels. They're super satisfying to explore and fight through. It sorta gives me minecraft cave exploration vibes - but with the added benefit of a REALLY cool 3D terrain scanner so you can't ever get lost.

Combat is generally just really fun; there's a lot of ways to handle any situation and it's simply really fun to coordinate taking down huge enemies and swarms of small enemies with friends (or randoms!). The game is entirely PvE (with friendly fire!) and the community is generally very positive; the in-game ping tool is pretty good and a good team doesn't usually even need to use voice chat to handle rough missions.

The game also generally looks great - it perfectly handles the limitations imposed by procedural generation terrain destruction (all terrain - and I mean all terrain - is destructible via your melee weapon, a trusty pickaxe) with incredible particle effects and lighting.

And, of course, the cosmetics - there's a large swath of gun skins, victory poses, and pickaxe/armor skins to collect from uncommon in-game cargo crates & lost dwarf gear, with no monetary aspect to them (around the 1.0, the devs did release a couple skins you have to pay for - I think this is a fine move since frankly, I got this game on sale during early access and wanted to give them more money).

I fell in love with this game fairly quickly - I first reviewed this after 5 hours in-game - and I still play it very regularly. It's simply an incredible game and is well worth a try. You'll know if it's your kind of game well before the 2hr refund window closes.

This is a beautiful puzzle platformer with a perfect soundtrack by Lena Raine (who did the soundtrack for Celeste, and the Minecraft nether update!). It's got incredible writing across the board, from the story, to the individual characters, and to the minute dialogues and just how diverse everything is. The topics covered are also incredibly good, to say the least (very introspective, deals with mental illness and a lot of other struggles).

The game is very accessible, with robust in-game hints, that let you pick between 'soft' hints and more 'direct' hints. There's content warnings you can enable, and the few 'combat'-y parts have configurable hitpoints (with generous checkpoints; the combat is not at all the primary focus - the story is).

Chicory is just easily the most thoughtfully and lovingly crafted game I've ever played. The soundtrack, all of the writing, and the gameplay are just all incredible and it's the most touching game I've had the pleasure of playing.

edit: I've seen a couple reviews mention eyestrain; the game has a setting for that! it has three settings (None, Default, and Lots) - I got a migraine playing on the default, but was fine when I set it to Lots (and once I'd colored in most of the game, I was fine switching back to Default) - I think that generally, most accessibility concerns are addressed.

(There's also a nice 'click and hold to fill up to the lines' mechanic to make painting in the lines very easy)
