On launch this game was ♥♥♥♥ and crashed constantly, that is why it's rating is mixed, but a few days after launch a patch was released that fixed most the crashing and since then they have updated the game to a very stable state and fixed a ton of problems. I would recommend buying this expansion IF you have already played the hell out of warband and experience the best mods.

Viking Conquest has added a ton of systems to the game to make it more interesting and fun. Getting rich is a lot easier but finding stuff to spend all your money on is WAY easier. Instead of money only being useful for buying troops now you always have something to spend on. Whether you are buying a new expensive ship to haul more men across the sea or strategically building and upgrading a refuge near the stronghold of another faction to make it easier to take them down in the future there is always something to spend money on. That along with other small changes make the game a lot more complex and make the time you spend playing feel a ton more productive.

This expansion is a great base for amazing things to be built on with its update to pacing and added complexity. With more work and future mods it will definitely be worth buying but for now I would only suggest it to people who have burnt out on warband and its mods and want something new.

edit: I also wanted to say that I have been playing sandbox, the story campaign is cool but I think the changes they have made all improve sandbox mode and the story mode sort of ignores the great things they have added to the game. I like saving my mom as much as the next guy but taking over all of the UK is more interesting to me.
