Dark souls II: Scholar of the First Sin is a remix of sorts of the original dark souls 2. Offering up all the previously released dlc along with new enemy placements and a new final final boss. It is in my opinion the quintessential way to experience the sequel to the beloved dark souls. This very controversial follow up takes the game mechanics and iconography of its predecessor and places it in a new world, one designed with a focus on unique and segmented locations as apposed with the tight, interconnected world of the first game. this very enjoyable edition to the souls franchise falls short in ways that hurt is longevity. Sporting a slower and clunky new movement and combat system that feels like you've been drenched in molasses, a more "gamey" feeling world and an emphasis on crowd control as apposed to the 1 on 1 encounters of dark souls. Personally I didn't mind the abundance of "dudes in armor" and enjoyed new themes and story, culminating in a almost fairy tale aesthetic. However the lighting and shading of the art style does make this the least visually appealing game in the franchise.
Overall I had fun and am surprised at how often I think back upon my time with this game. Play it.
