Currently I"m in work so not only I"m using annoying phone, my attention is limited, I will be back home in about 6 hrs.
That"s all I"m gonna say on this subject, because at the end of the day I can write you an entire novel and it still won"t affect your opinion. If you want to argue about it more there"s plenty of Felghana fans out there. You can always try the purists too, if you"re feeling brave, just start a thread about it on /v/ and they"ll come flying in no time.
The improved combat fixed all the problems that Ark suffered from. Origin may have refined it a bit more but aside from Hugo it offers nothing all that interesting to the table. No matter what angle you look at it from both Yunica and Toal are glorified Adol reskins with Toal getting an extra dodge move.
Or to sum it all up: It"s a masterpiece because it took an irredeemabe pile of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and turned it into an amazing experience. It"s not even my favorite Ys game, but I have no logical reason to dispute the praise it gets from the rest of the fanbase. The only real problem I have with it is that it gave birth to the cancer that"s been plaguing the fanbase for the last 7 years, but that"s not a problem of the game itself, that"s just what usually happens when you introduce something extremely niche to a wider audience.
The game is hard as balls, but at the same time completely fair (being ♥♥♥♥ at the game is no excuse for calling it bad).
Its pacing is vastly superior to both Ark (backtracking simulator for 12 years before XSeed finally fixed it) and Origin (climb the same tower 3 times and fight 70% rehashed bosses just so you can fight one extra boss who isn"t even as good as his 1988/2001 counterpart). I"m not going to compare it to the rest of the saga as those games play completely different.
It took that pathetic excuse for a story Wanderers had and actually made it good.
It remixed the soundtrack and made it sound on par or even better than the PC-Engine rendition (that"s a feat right there). Both Ark and Origin use lower quality synths in a fair amount of tracks in their soundtracks. Felghana lacks this problem.
