Slapping invasive DRM that removes modding and decreases performance on a 20 year old game, Capcom?

Way to encourage piracy. You should be ashamed of yourselves, money-grubbing dirtbags.

It’s a lazy port (as expected from Konami) lacking many crucial optimisations for PC, however this is easily fixable with mods and you’ll have a much smoother experience with the port than trying to emulate via PCSX2 which will require either a lot of tinkering with the settings on your part or a powerful machine (and even then a smooth experience is not guaranteed).

As for the game itself…it’s Metal Gear Solid 3, one of the greatest stealth games of all time and arguably Kojima’s magnum opus. What awaits you here is gameplay with a ton of depth, an emotional story, lots of replayability and incredibly corny but entertaining dialogue. The plot is very thought-provoking and deals with many themes (in this case centre place takes SCENE and the idea of change). Mastering this game is hard, and acquiring the coveted FOXHOUND rank will require having the game’s mechanics down to a science, but it is oh so satisfying…

As a long-time MGS fan, I am in the camp with the rest when I say we all had much higher expectations that the Master Collection could’ve been so much more, but with Kojima gone these are the cards we’re dealt sadly. I still recommend it because it is an experience that is very much worth it and as lacklustre these ports may be, it’s good that this series won’t be lost to time and newer generations have a way to play it.

Overall this port is, at the moment, the best way to experience the thrill of the ladder scene with minimal troubleshooting and some mod installation.

The audio director recorded himself slapping his wife’s wet ass cheeks for footstep sounds.

Oh, and the game’s an awesome remake too.

You can open a walkthrough/guide floating around the Internet from the original and it will still be useful here. That's how faithful this remake is.

Add in the absolutely gorgeous new visuals and art style, refined mini-games and gameplay, and the creepy atmosphere and ambience, and you've got one of the best remakes of 2023.

EDIT: Really hoping we get an OST release soon because the music positively slaps as well.

Despite showing it's age now, the REmake is still a very good way to dip your toes into Resident Evil if you're a newcomer or if you just want to see where it all began.

Yes, the camera angles and tank controls take some getting used to, and the gameplay gets gimmicky once you learn the layouts and enemy positions, but compared to the other RE games it has unrivalled atmosphere and immersion that will keep your hairs straight, plus the art style and design of the pre-rendered backgrounds is terrific. It doesn't throw hordes of enemies at you either, even the zombies are scary and feel like an actual threat. On top of all this, it has high replay value with quite a few hidden unlockables and costumes to acquire, and it's a very speedrun-friendly game (you can easily cut down a run from 10 hours to just 2).

This Resi comes from a time when developers still put love and care into their games, and it certainly shows.

A true love letter to the original trilogy. From the beautiful art style to the amazing music and finally the engaging and fun gameplay, SoR 4 pulls no punches when it comes to delivering a great game while keeping the spirit of the series alive.

With updates that keep things fresh, a DLC that adds even more replayability with it’s rogue-like survival mode, and the ability to play with versions of characters from past games, SoR 4 is the definitive modern beat-em-up experience.

IF YOU'RE GETTING INTO THIS GAME IN 2023, READ THIS:

-Download DXVK [github.com] as many other reviewers have pointed out. DXVK forces GTA IV to use Vulkan as a renderer instead of DirectX, which will definitely give you a noticeable performance boost since the engine is so poorly optimized, it has trouble dealing with a very well-implemented API used in thousands of other games.

-Download and use this downgrader [gtaforums.com] before you do anything else to your folder after a fresh install. Read each installation tab carefully and decide on which version you want to use if you plan on modding your game. Some mods for GTA IV work better on different versions depending on your needs, but as a general rule of thumb, ENBs and graphic mods work better on older ones while script and gameplay mods are more optimized for newer ones.

-DON'T trust mod packs and DON'T cram your game full of mods. Even with the fixes above, GTA IV's RAGE engine is still horribly coded and optimized for PC and is hanging by a thread from falling into the pit of crashes, stutters, and general other nuisances. Additionally, GTA IV is very picky about it's version, so if you throw in a mod pack that is compatible only with a different one, you'll most likely have to reinstall. Unless you're very sure about what you're doing, save yourself the headache and mod the game yourself.

-Make sure you force the game to utilize more than 2GB of RAM by either editing the files or simply adding a command line onto it's properties from Steam. This is crucial to your overall performance.

-Consider installing a timecyc mod. These offer a nice graphics boost as they simply edit the lighting and also get rid of some unnecessary post processing filters (depth of field, blur, etc.) that add a more ''grainy'' look to Liberty City. They also have minimal effect on framerate compared to ENBs since they don't rely on shaders and are an overall good way to spruce up your game. My personal favorite is DayL's Natural Timecycle [www.gtainside.com] mod, but there are plenty more to choose from depending on your preference.

-If you're having FPS troubles, disable Night Shadows as they can absolutely tank performance and consider lowering the draw distance as well.

-Get familiar with OpenIV if you plan on messing around. Although it may have a bit of a learning curve, it's one of the best tools you'll have at your disposal when you're hankering for some custom weapons, models, textures, all that good stuff.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's sad that new players who wish to experience this title on PC have to jump through so many rings of fire just to even launch it properly, but if you take the time and effort, this is one of the best entries in the franchise. A dark, realistic and mature story rife with symbolism and life lessons, fun physics to play around with, engaging setting, and classic GTA gameplay await you here. The only real negatives that come to my mind are the lack of jets, and the driving just doesn't feel up to par compared to the older titles and V (way more floaty and heavy), but putting all that aside, it's one of the best games in the series and it even outshines GTA V in some aspects.

It is times like this I wish Steam had a ''mixed'' review option. While the 1.0 update is very solid and lays the ground work for future updates, there are still quite a few glaring issues with it that I feel need to be addressed:

-SWAT A.I is indeed much better and you have more extensive control over what they can do (plus voice-acting), but they still make mistakes. Despite the claims in the dev log, they still over-extend, they prioritise securing evidence in the middle of the mission which is dangerous, and you can’t claim someone’s spot in the stack freely.

-Despite the claim of trailers, I have personally yet to see them. I have tried soft completing a mission in co-op and commander mode and waiting, nada. Would be happy to know if others have seen them.

-Suspect A.I has been suped the hell up. They’re incredibly aggressive, resistant to less-than-lethal methods, and mock-surrender a lot more. The tutorial instills in you the idea to prioritise arrests over kills, but then you’re actively encouraged to go lethal due to the unpredictable and volatile A.I behaviour. It’s weird.

-Which brings me to my next point, less-lethal options are far less effective for some reason. Flashbangs and stingers affect you much more often and suspects hit with beanbags and pepper balls barely react. Once again, the game encourages you to go Death Squad mode despite telling you to go for arrests first.

-The new “Twitch streamer” map is a bit misleading. Trailer gives off the idea of a swatting situation with a single suspect who is possibly armed, perfect for a beginner mission to get a feel for the game, and then it turns out he’s guarded by about six to seven additional suspects who fight like they’re in Iraq.

-Performance has tanked significantly. Stuttering, random freezes, and framerate dips galore. It may work fine for some people, but there have been reports of these issues en masse since the update dropped.

There are more things I could write here, but these are the most salient points. Game is still a good Co-Op experience worth your money and single player is actually good now as well, but there is still a lot of work left to be done and as excited I am as everyone else, maybe calling it 1.0 is still a bit of a reach.

Overkill have once again demonstrated they don’t give a ♥♥♥♥ about their fans:

-Killed Linux support for no reason.

-Payday 2 is now on Epic Games and it uses their online services, which means constant crashing, missing weapons, broken Crime.net, and a myriad of other bugs.

-Wiped save data of side jobs for thousands of players. If you just so happened to run the game after U237 was released, well sorry, all that progress you had is now gone! This is absolutely disgraceful and lazy.

-Dataminers have found information pertaining to a new type of MTX specifically for Payday 3, which means they learned absolutely nothing from the 2015 safe fiasco and now put profit above all else like every other studio nowadays (ironic for a game about robbing banks, now they’re robbing their customers).

With these actions, they’ve once again pissed in the faces of their loyal fans without any care. As a long-time Payday fan and Overkill supporter, I’ve lost complete faith in this company.

PSA: Mods aren't broken, make sure you update your BLT and stop spreading misinformation.
