You know that sad feeling you get when you finish a really good book or show?

This is the only game I've ever played that's given me that feeling.

Certainly worth 30 minutes of your time. Nice art and quite good music. Overall a really good example of a simple game that knows exactly what it's trying to do and does it well.

Early Access Review
DayZ serves to remind us that instant gratification is not as fullfilling in the long run as having to really work to build something. Sure, you'll spend lots of time running through fields with nothing much to do in this game, but that time only serves to make the moments of danger more intense, and trust me - they are intense.

DayZ is a true players' game. No one's telling you what to do. You can stick to the coast and try to meet people. You can become a recluse out in the country, avoiding others at all costs. You can sit on a hill with a high-powered rifle and kill others for your own twisted pleasure. You can become a shining paragon, defending the weak and taking vengeance upon those who prey on them. Or you can do a combination of any of the above. The point is that DayZ truly is your story and you can choose to play it however you want.

Yes, it does have problems. Zombies ignore walls, fences and pretty much everything else which isn't you, flashlight beams go straight through walls and other structures, and sometimes articles of clothing just follow you around, folded up on the floor instead of putting themselves on your body in the way clothes are supposed to. But even so, it's an Early Access Alpha, and expecting perfection is simply unreasonable (especially from a game based on the Arma 2 engine). And even in it's current state, the game is easily playable. The occasional moments of frustration are well worth the fun you'll have, especially if you play with friends.

If you were a fan of the DayZ Mod, you'll probably like this game. It can be a little slow to start off when you have no weapons or gear, but it really picks up after you have your first "successful" life. So far, it actually seems to be less glitchy than the mod (to me, at least), but there are currently less features in the Standalone. Features like vehicles, more weapons, cooking and the addition of more zombies will be added along the way.

Give the game a chance, look past the bugs and see the amazing and organic experience underneath and I think most will enjoy themselves.

(Also, you can force others to drink disenfectant fluid, so that's a plus.)

9/10
(Will probably go up to 9.5 or higher with the addition of more features and fixing of bugs)
