This game is pretty silly but I felt I got my money's worth out of the sale price. The obvious glaring issues is difficulty is all over the place and pretty unbalanced, game starts hard because you have to grind for decent weapons. If you beat the first level on hard you get this "sniper c" weapon that will make every level on normal a cakewalk. There's a lot of cheap hits even with the boost dodge mechanic and sometimes you have to choose between overheating (practically immobile and unable to fire which is a death sentence in most situations) or taking a hit or two. Game mitigates this by letting you stack hp between levels. All and all very lame and artificial difficulty in that regard, but I already played 2 hrs to clear everything on normal and half the game on hard so I feel I already got my money's worth.

Fun and fast arcade style gameplay, cool gameplay gimmick, great presentation and charm, this is the kind of game Taito would make back in the mid 90s.

Not one to usually get motion sickness or headaches when playing games but there was something about this one. The way the camera sways when you turn combined with that dark lighting and poop and vomit color palette churned something bad in me.

If you were a certain age, during a certain time, this game is a classic. It had a lot going for it for a game in 1998, really big levels, a lot of secrets and things to collect, impressive enemy animations (I love the little predator esque suicide animations, very cool!) , lots of gore, lots of weapons, just lots of everything that kids wanted out of shooters in 1998. It was super extreme, and in my opinion ♥♥♥♥ all over the first turok game. Its just your standard badass 1998 cool game. Theres something comforting about just slowly procedurally unlocking all the stuff in the (for the time) gigantic levels, every level is like at least 4 or 5 doom levels worth of nooks and crannys of stuff to find. I mean the first level alone, with muscle memory from playing endlessly as a kid and remembering most of the objectives and secrets, still took me about an hr. I don't think it's all nostalgia either, because I've played the first one as a kid too, and I think that game aged as well as some moldy ♥♥♥♥. Turok 2 is where its at if you are curious about turok and never played either game, just skip the 1st one. Turok 2 brought so much better design in every way to the table.

Nowadays, the combat is on the easier side because you aren't fighting with the cbuttons on the 64 controller so movement and aiming is naturally easier, and since 1998 we've all been conditioned on halo and call of duty , so the combat in turok 2 isn't as intense and frantic as a modern shooter. The game is still worth playing, especially with this great port. There's some very small QoL improvements like a little marker that tells you what switches you've already triggered which minimizes aimless wandering by at least 30% in my book. You can make the game look as bad or as good as you want, I like to say it looks as good as I remember it. The motion blur options are a little too much but that can be disabled.

If you come in expected to be dazzled you'll be disappointed, but if you're ready to be enchanted, well there's that.

Well worth a sale price.

Its spiderman with grinding, arcade sound effects, and self referential humor, but sadly no spiderman or new york city.

If you want a well rounded mix of 2-d sidescrolling this is solid choice over legacy collection 1 which just features NES graphics style and gameplay.

7 is a snes game, and while its not a bad game, I always thought the sprites were way too big in this one, although I am enjoying it more than I remember playing through it again in this collection. Out of all the games , if you try to play it full widescreen it looks the most stretched, so I just deal with the borders.

8 is one of my personal favorites. I remember buying it as a kid, I had a choice between this and a cd and I picked this game because it was the same price and its always been a very nice enjoyable game. Probably the easiest of any of the original series titled megaman games, but that doesn't mean its a bad game. Gives you time to breathe before 9.

9 is balls to the walls platform hell. You will die many times. That is inevitable. A back to the basics approach while 7 and 8 kind of eased up on the difficulty a bit.

10 has some of the most fun and creative levels, while still being a pretty difficult game. You get to play as protoman too!

The best thing about this collection is each game has its own unique thing to offer and stands on its own, and suits a different type of mood depending on what type of platformer you want to play. It's sad they didn't include rockman and forte, but that reused a lot of assets from 8, while not being quite as good. It would have been a welcome addition to top things out though. Everything runs smooth and theres auto checkpoint options that can be turned on and off.
