Easily the best game ever made, and probably the definitive way to play it
Note I played through this version the week it came out and am now writing this review in late November

I have some small gripes with this version that i'll detail first:
Loading times - Battles and locations load fine but booting up the game takes a moment and loading save data is a noticeable pause. Not the end of the world but if you are testing builds in the coliseum get ready to spend more time loading then dueling.
General bugs - There were a few rough spots throughout my playthrough including the game completely freezing on the final boss, and some battle commands don't work with auto battle.
Translation - This port seems to be based on the GBA version which while maybe has better translations in some places, lacks a lot of the classic Woolseyisms of the SNES translation, and I especially don't like the versions of character introductions blerbs before you name them in this. YMMV
Weird, unnecessary changes - whoever decided to not have the credits roll during the intro is a complete fool, the font isn't great but at least that's fixable, and the phases of Dancing Mad don't seamlessly transition on this. Why?

There are far too many positives to name, so here's just some condensed highlights:
Visuals - The game, looks, fantastic. Every sprite seems to have a new sheen to it without looking overdoing it. Battle backgrounds are gorgeous. Spell effects seem to be in 3D? At least stuff like Ultima is, really gives weight to how powerful it is
The Opera - Was so worried this scene would get overdone but I think the HD2D was just the glow up it needed. I won't pretend the vocals are AAA, but it gets the job done well, and them recording it in eight languages is cool. HOWEVER, I have a gripe/observation/letdown, post-Floating Continent spoilers: Why wasn't Celes' suicide attempt also in HD2D? I'd have a hard time thinking it would of been that much work, and the fact that now her jumping doesn't -perfectly- mirror when she throws the flowers was a huge miss I think.
Soundtrack - its fantastic, 97% of the time. I think some tracks have lost the lower bass end a bit too much, but you'll stop caring when the live horn sections come in every time. I thanked every person credited as "Trumpet" in the end credits lmao. Some songs here are prob my fav version of them, Searching for Friends and Desperate Battle are huuuge highpoints
Auto battle - I thought I would hate this at first but the fact that it repeats the last command for every character changed my mind completely. If you want to target a specific enemy you'd still have to input the attack manually, but by the end of the game being able to just "press Square to spam Ultima" was very welcomed.
QoL changes / bugfixes - Maybe i'm just an old man tired of menuing for tens of hours but this is where a lot of praise for the remaster comes. Relics on the equipment menu, Espers on the magic menu, MP displaying during battles next to HP, Cyan's swordskills not being just objectively worse than Sabin or Edgars' uniques, all make my gamer brain happy. Also just seems that stuff works ""better"", Some have gotten fixed on previous versions i'm sure but its too nice too have all these changes and fixed wrapped into one version.

And that last line is really my thought on this Pixel Remaster in whole; while it has a few minor issues in my eyes, all of these enhancements make it outweigh both it's downsides, and all the versions of this game to of come before.
Hands down a game everyone should play in their life, presented in its best form yet.
