Such a dissapointment. I don't think I've been this bored playing a shmup for a long time.
It's far too easy, completed the game in 2 hours, no hard mode unlocked, nothing, and no reason to play through again.

Lots of cutscenes and dialogue and stuff that you can thankfully skip through. You can rebind keyboard controls, but not pad/stick.
You get some patterns spawning together which are unavoidable, hence the health bar.

It feels like the base game was so poor that they threw all the unnecessary extras on top to make up for it. There are a load of weapons you can unlock (none of which are as good as your fully upgraded default gun, so why bother), loads of characters and hats and little arcade games and stuff. All of this would be welcome extras if the core game was good.

It's all garnish and no dinner. Such a shame as I was really looking forward to this.

Hello, Boss 101 Dev here (Tim) - wanted to take a moment to first thank you for your longtime support and perhaps offer another perspective. This won't be me trying to change your opinion (your opinion is always yours and always right for you). It's just you hit on something we hoped to address when we made Boss 101.

You hint at story/cutscene skipping your way to the end of the game. That's all possible but the extras and story you are talking about are a lot of the game and entertainment. The other extras are the arcade games, collectables and the like which fold into the main world. We also added an endless boss action section for people who only wanted a more challenging experience with the base game. That is all open to you from the start.

We avoided positioning Boss 101 as a hardcore experience in our development updates (the non Endless Boss part of the game at least). We were looking to tell a story with the game and allow you to have ups and down but the main idea was to make it accessible to a lot of people. Some will have an easy time & it looks like you were one of those.

You mention looking forward to the game and we have worked to be upfront in our devlogs about the story elements and all the extras. The endless modes, collectibles and things like that were all there for a while and not really tossed in. Our intention was to entertain & bring you an adventure with two friends.

We deeply appreciate the purchase and leaving a review! It means a lot and hopefully with your input the Boss 101 world can continue and be more things to more people. The core story will always be there but we’re always looking to bring our best to as many people as we can.

Thanks again for the support & we do listen!

-Tim

Hi, I'm from 5 years in the future.

I thought the same about the main weapon at first; that secondary weapons were useless; Half way through the game when main gun was no longer enough to beat some bosses before the timer runs out I started to dig in. Pick secondary based on boss weakness, then it will be stronger. So im more curious how you got passed those bosses. Maybe just luck with boss configs.

From watching let's plays I feel the same way. There's not enough game for the heap of stuff included. Its a great big Thanksgiving served with a chicken and not a turkey. I came here to have the reviews sway me as I'm on the fence.
