Note: this review takes into account all the content in the game that is available to this date, including all of the Civilisation & Scenario packs, along with the Rise and Fall and Gathering Storm DLCs.

I picked up this game as soon as it was released, being a big fan of Civ V after I first played it with the expansions on up to Brave New World, and I can honestly say that I haven't played a single hour of Civ V since I've got Civ VI.

I can't really say much more than the fact that everything is just better in this game, especially with the expansions enabled, the choice and depth of Civ V truly pales in comparison to what Civ V can offer. From the Historic Moments which mean that you can't just sit in the corner of the map for the entire game and expect to win, the Diplomatic Events which call on you to help other Civs to help your Civ achieve victory and the Global Warming feature which makes you think twice about just building factories and units that consume very carbon heavy resources.

Admittedly, the base game of Civ VI is a little bare, so I strongly urge you to buy the expansions to make it a more complete game, seeing as they add a lot of content that really enhances the game to create a strong Civ experience that keeps you on your toes at all times, stopping such issues as forward settling, stagnating nations and the dull culture game that Civ V offered.

Even basic additions such as the Civic tree help this game to break away from the monotony of Civ V, to which everyone went down Tradition on every occasion to help get more culture, Civ VI truly breaks the mold and stops the boredom of, in my opinion, essentially playing the same game over and over again in relation to buildings, wonders and civics that are just the meta (such as Democracy in Civ V, marketed as peaceful but somehow strongly geared to war and military strength)

As with every Civ game though, as soon as you add the expansions, you'll never want to go back to the base game. And why would you? Try playing base game Civ V if you don't believe me, despite its very positive review score, people are rating it on the complete edition with all the DLCs and most likely tons of single player mods. It's also worth mentioning that Civ VI allows for multiplayer mods, giving another good reason to get this game if you enjoy playing with friends but you want to change a few things.

That being said, I admit my own biases and say that my review is based on how the game is now, with all of my experience and all of the expansions enabled, along with the fact that this is now my most played game on Steam. I've never gone back to Civ V after playing this game since its release, and with the expansions now added to the mix, I don't ever think I'll see a reason to. All I can really say is that I wholeheartedly recommend this game to lovers of Civ and turn based strategy games, especially if you've gotten bored of the standard strategies and you want to have to think about your decisions and placements of your cities - y'know, like in a strategy game.

Thanks for reading my review!

This game is one of the best games that I have ever played, and I fell in love with it almost instantly.
It draws you in through its story, makes you feel empathy for characters on a computer screen, even from the get go.
You can play the game however you want, even by not killing a single thing in your entire game, and you'll always want to try and get a better ending.

Drawing inspiration from Earthbound, Undertale reinvents the JRPG for the modern day, and it's truly astounding to think that this game was made by one guy, Toby Fox.
From the wacky game design to hilarious dialogue, this game will make you laugh out loud from the scenes inside, even during fight scenes, I couldn't help but chuckle at the fact that you could attempt to date the person that you're fighting midway through.

All in all, it's a game that you may think "oh, but once I've got the best possible ending, I'll never need to play it again", but I assure you, you'll be back to play it again time and time again.
