A Plague Tale: Innocence

"Monsters are those things to which we have never given a name."

Introduction:
"What is A Plague Tale: Innocence" That is the question that you might be asking yourself, that was the question I asked myself when I saw the Steam page for this game. This game just randomly popped up, no advertising, no hype, nothing. Upon closer inspection, I saw that it was going to be a story-driven game set in France during the Black Death. That instantly piqued my attention and made me add the to my wishlist but it was a while before I finally purchased it and then I did it with a heavy discount.

Let me just tell you right here fellas. This game is worth the full price and I would recommend you buy it at the full price of £35. Asobo Studios has crafted not only a unique and creative game but they ticked all the boxes in making this game the experience we all want.

The Story:
14th-century France. You play as Amicia De Rune, a 15-year-old girl of noble descent, your story takes place in Guyenne, France during the Hundred Years War between England and France. Amicia has always been closer to her father. As her mother since the birth of Amicia's younger brother Hugo has spent grueling hours trying to find a cure for Hugo's illness. During one hunting trip, Amicia's dog Lion is attacked and sadly doesn't survive before being swallowed by an ever black void. With no clue what this could potentially be, the father leaves the forest with his daughter back to his estate to seek safety. But the French Inquisition arrives and demands for the father to hand over his son. Amicia is forced on the run with her little brother Hugo who she never has had any real connection with finds herself to be his only protector. The death of innocence starts now.

Pros:
● Breathtaking Graphics
● Dark themes
● Deep storyline
● Great characters
● Remarkable performance
● Unique gameplay
● Mesmerizing soundtrack
● Demo
● Steam achievements
● Steam trading cards

Pros Summarized:
I hit the character limit so I’m going to be leaving a Google document where I will have every pro of the game summarized. If you are looking for a short but informative review that gets straight to the point then the pros here should explain everything just by reading the name of it. If you are looking for a more detailed reason for each pro that I listed then check out the link below that leads to the Google document.---> Link[docs.google.com]

Cons:
● Final boss fight ~ Despite all the positives, the final boss fight leaves a lot to be desired and it's more of a hit or miss in my personal opinion. You fight in a chapel surrounded by black and white rats who over time will destroy your safe passageways leaving you little room to navigate, dodging sometimes doesn't even work and you end up being crushed and forced back onto a massive checkpoint. I did beat the boss eventually but I died several times due to the frustrating nature of the boss fight. The biggest annoyance was the randomness of the rat tower falling on you, sometimes I could stand there and plan my next move, and other times it was falling on me almost instantly.

Conclusion:
Do you know what the craziest thing is? A Plague Tale: Innocence is only a Double AA game and yet it feels and plays like a classic old Triple AAA game made with passion and love. It is nothing at all like the modern-day Triple AAA games or the Quadruple AAAA games lol. I am amazed at how much of a wonderful journey this game was and to me the game is perfect. Some people might bring up some flaws like the enemy AI being a bit wonky or not being able to do X or Y things but to me those are serious nitpicks and I am not Joshep Anderson who will cry about the little things because at the end of the day, this is a video game that was crafted with love and passion made to play a specific way. Asobo, a previously unknown studio that simply wanted to deliver a story not seen since the days of Telltales Walking Dead and The Last of Us succeded and I will put them on my list of "Developers with a Passion." A Plague Tale: Innocence goes often on sale for as little as £8 and it makes me feel guilty that I bought it for that little because the experience was nothing short of sensational. Please if you're tired of modern-day games and simply are looking for a unique game with a strong focus on narrative then A Plague Tale: Innocence is the game you're looking for. This game sold well but it went under the radar and I am certain that to this day there are still people who haven't even heard of this game and it's a crime. This is a game that will fondly remain in my and your memory for years to come and it deserves all the same love that Asobo gave it during its development.

Alice: Madness Returns

"We're All Mad Here"

Introduction:
What a phenomenal game series the Alice games are. Even though this game is not new, time has preserved it very well. Everybody has heard of the ever-famous Alice in Wonderland books, movies, and general fictional world of Lewis Carroll. It is a happy children's focused book about a young girl's adventures in a beautiful garden of Eden called Wonderland.

But what American McGee made here with the games can only be called a work of art and he should be awarded a creativity badge. McGee took the beautiful Alice in Wonderland and twisted it making it into a horror game. The Beautiful Wonderland we all know is now perverted, shattered, and mangled beyond recognition.

The Story:
The story follows our protagonist Alice Liddell. But this is where the good story ends. Alice at the age of 7 witnessed the death of her entire family during a house fire. This traumatic tragic incident left Alice with serious body burns and psychological damage, the latter of which didn't heal. Alice is later brought to Rutledge Asylum in a state of Catonnia where she would spend the next 10 years of her life psychologically damaged. Following the events of the first game now 19-year-old Alice is released from the asylum under the care of Dr. Angus Bumby, albeit in a state of depression and with serious survivor's guilt. She also begins to suffer from auditory and visual hallucinations relating to her tragic past and the night of the fire. Falling into Wonderland again during an errand, Alice must find the root of her Wonderland corruption again before it's too late...

Pros:
● Phenomenal story
● Unique concept
● Artstyle/Environments
● Soundtrack
● Decent optimization
● 2 Games in 1

Cons:
● No Steam trading cards
● No Steam achievements
● Lack of bosses
● Camera focus controls
● Lack of Weapon variety
● Alice's dress changes
● EA owns the IP

Pros & Cons Summary:
I hit the character limit so I’m going to be leaving a Google document where I will have every pro and con of the game summarized. f you are looking for a short but informative review that gets straight to the point then the pros & cons here should explain everything just by reading the name of it. If you are looking for a more detailed reason for each con that I listed then check out the link below that leads to the Google document. ---> Link[docs.google.com]

Conclusion:
I have fallen in love with both Alice games in such a short time and they have quickly risen to become my favorite games, I even created a music video as a love letter to the games and even brought myself a T-shirt that I will proudly wear.[i.imgur.com] The Alice games are truly one-of-a-kind games where the creativity and passion put into creating these two games can withstand the test of time. A Gothic Masterpiece, AMR might have shortcomings in the form of its gameplay but the story, environment, and visuals it has created are enough for you to forgive it. A twisted take on Alice in Wonderland with a deep dark story for you to follow is not a game that you should sleep on. We likely won't ever see a third entry but you can still view the game bible on McGee's Patreon.[www.patreon.com] for free. Just don't be too saddened by the prospects of likely never seeing a third entry. I feel like the Alice games are truly a niche and underrated series of games but they are absolutely stellar and everyone should be able to experience it so get around to it and play this masterpiece!

Tomb Raider

"A Survivor is born"

Introduction:
Uncharted & Tomb Raider always had this sort of competition with who can be better. I played and loved both games but regardless of your opinion, it's a fact that Uncharted dominated the late 2000s and early 2010s in popularity even receiving the nickname of "Dude Raider". Some Tomb Raider games came out near the same time as Uncharted 1-3 did like Legend & Underworld but they are rather mid and largely forgotten by most people unless you're one of those hardcore Tomb Raider fans.

It wasn't until 2013 that the Tomb Raider franchise would receive a reboot and the first game in the new trilogy would come out is it good? It's phenomenal! The graphics and art style are still gorgeous even 11 years after release, the gameplay is very enjoyable, the game length is just right and the mystery and thrill of an unknown island are all there.

The Story:
Everybody knows Lara Croft as this tough badass woman who can survive against all odds but in this reboot, everything is treated more like an origin story, Lara isn't the hardened survivor that we know of yet, she's just a young gal who is going on her first adventure, inexperienced, green as grass and grossly unprepared for what's ahead. Legends speak about the Lost Island Kingdom of Yamatai and say that Yamatai is surrounded by deadly storms and all ships & planes that travel near its vicinity crash there with no possible escape. Despite the legends, Lara is set on proving herself and uncovering the legends of this lost island.

Pros:
● Fantastic story ~ The story is fantastic throughout. You become separated at the start of the game, with no friends, no allies, just Lara by herself in the surrounding forests, as you progress deeper you reunite with your friends on multiple occasions and learn more about the island, its history, and the curse surrounding it. It's captivating and filled with thrills and mysteries that make you curious and want more answers.

● Very well-aged graphics ~ The graphics even 11 years later still look outstanding. The lighting, shadows, models, and contrast in certain areas help sell off this visually beautiful forgotten island but also will project a disturbing island with something sinister going on.

● Very fun gameplay ~ Tomb Raider has a great gameplay loop, you can spend time exploring the area you're in to find scrap boxes that you will need to upgrade your various guns with or even complete challenges, the players who know the challenges and the collectible spots by memory can quickly rise through the skill ranks and reach the Brawler skill rank before the Radio Tower location which only makes you more powerful. The gunplay is satisfying and playable and the enemy variety is plentiful, you go from fighting light-armored dudes who rush you with melee weapons, shoot arrows, or throw Molotovs to flush you out of cover and then late game you will stumble upon tougher dudes who wear makeshift armour, wield assault rifles, shotguns and even have shields that cover their whole body requiring you to bait them into opening themselves up so you can stun them. The puzzle solving whilst not the hardest helps break up the monotony between firefights.

● Unique collectibles ~ A game that had very similar collectibles was Max Payne 3 where Max would comment on the various items he found around the world, it gave you a reason and interest to keep finding them. Lara will find tons of different collectibles during her time on Yamatai, from documents, and relics to even narrating to herself near a campfire. Some of the relics will also feature a minigame where you have to inspect it closer to find hidden details to unlock a further comment from Lara. I loved this feature as it made finding the collectibles a fun task. I wish more games did it like this. Reading a 5-page document is not fun or captivating for anyone. Give the players interactive collectibles instead.

● Awesome enemy design ~ I simply adore good enemy designs and the Solaraii Brotherhood captures that amazing almost post-apocalyptic feeling mixed with a stranded survivor vibe. The Solaraii soldiers will have a mix of armour, some will wear metal knee & shin pads, some will have old gas masks and some of them will be equipped with giant metal slab shields which they will use to cover themselves with and rush you. Many of the Elite Warriors will even don the old Japanese Army helmets from the times of WW2. The Solarii give off this aesthetic of hardened survivors who have been stranded here for years and they adapted to the environment and equipped themselves with whatever means of protection they could scavenge.

● Tombs ~ This wouldn't be Tomb Raider if it didn't have the classic Tombs. During your adventures on Yamatai, you will stumble upon secret hidden entrances that will lead you into Tombs that hide valuables. The Puzzles aren't the most complex or hardest but they sure are fun to figure out.

● Fantastic atmosphere ~ I love the atmosphere in Yamatai, it gives off this abandoned feeling but at the same time, a feeling like something isn't right, like if you aren't alone and something out there is watching you... As you venture deeper into certain caves you will find what appears to be a graveyard full of mutilated corpses and bones. With nothing but a gun in your hand and a torch in your other, you have to navigate this dark cave complex whilst an eerie soundtrack plays in the background.

● Steam Achievements
● Steam Trading Cards

Cons:
● No FOV Slider
● Camera Shake
● UI elements bugged
● Multiplayer achievements
● TressFX exclusive to AMD GPUs
● Grenade Launcher firing arc is awful
● No continue after game ending

Cons Summarized:
I hit the character limit so I’m going to be leaving a Google document where I will have every con of the game summarized. If you are looking for a short but informative review that gets straight to the point then the cons here should explain everything just by reading the name of it. If you are looking for a more detailed reason for each con that I listed then check out the link below that leads to the Google document.---> Link[docs.google.com]

Conclusion:
Tomb Raider (2013) is a fantastic reboot of the legendary IP that we all heard about or played in the past when we were younger. The fact that it stands on Steam with "Overwhelmingly Positive" reviews is a testament to this game since as you know not many games on Steam can don that rating. Tomb Raider is a perfect introduction to both new players and a perfect introduction to old players who want to explore a new trilogy of Lara Croft. I know some people might look at this review and think I had a lot of negatives to say about the game but really the cons are my more personal nitpicks, none of them really affected my enjoyment of the game to the point where I said "Oh this is unplayable!" However, for future players the online achievements might become a problem when the servers eventually shut down unless the community can make a server hosting mod as they did with Hitman: Absolution. Throughout your adventures, you won't ever feel bored as Tomb Raider is filled with exploration, combat, cinematic moments, and a story that can even match if not finally rival Uncharted, it even goes on sale for dirt cheap during sales, it is 100% a game worth picking up.

Darksiders III

"Unleash The Fury."

Introduction:
I grew up with the Darksiders franchise. It was one of the games that defined my childhood along with Metro, Bioshock, & Borderlands. I was so excited when Darksiders 3 was announced, Darksiders 2 was marvelous & I knew then & there that with how awesome Darksiders 2 was, they would take all of that & make Darksiders 3 way better. It was about time a third entry was announced.

Unfortunately, that wasn't meant to be. Darksiders 3 is a tragic mess. It doesn't introduce anything new, and it doesn't take anything from Darksiders 2. In fact, everything feels so dumbed down, so lackluster & so devoid of what made Darksiders 2 a fantastic sequel that even Darksiders 1 in comparison is bigger & more ambitious than Darksiders 3 ever hopes to be.

The Story:
Darksiders 3 tells the story of the third horsemen, Fury. The weakest of the bunch but still supposedly formidable even to be entrusted by the Charred Council for an important mission. Upon the start of the Apocalypse caused by War, the Seven Deadly Sins have escaped their imprisonment & are now drawing up their own areas of influence & control on the destroyed Earth. Fury is tasked with hunting down the Seven Deadly Sins by the Charred Council, they also assign a Watcher to her to ensure the task is successful, your journey begins on the destroyed Earth where your hunt begins.

Pros:
● Graphics & Artstyle ~ The graphics & artstyle have remained largely the same. You still have that cartoony cell-shaded style graphics yet seeing the ruins of destroyed Earth can provide moments of beauty & appreciation.

● The Hollows ~ In DS3 you don't get secondary weapons like Death did in DS2, you get a hollow preset which gives you a weapon tied to that hollow & an environmental ability like being able to stick to walls or walk over water. They are kind of niche but with there only being 4 hollows in the whole game each with only 1 weapon it does get slightly boring. Although I will say that being able to swap hollows mid-combat is kind of fun, you're one second striking an enemy with a whip & then next you're hitting them with a Warhammer. With the Keepers of the Void DLC, you can get alternative variants of your Hollow weapons like Claws, Polearm, etc: but it still fails to be better than DS2.

● Steam trading cards
● Steam achievements

Cons:
● Emphasis on Souls-like combat
● No finishers
● Horrendous checkpoint system
● Default Combat Mode
● Armours
● No map
● Story is in shambles & Fury just isn't likable
● Terrible optimization
● Boring and dead world
● Upgrades are meaningless and hollow
● Enemy variety

Cons Summarized:
I hit the character limit so I’m going to be leaving a Google document where I will have every con of the game summarized. If you are looking for a short but informative review that gets straight to the point then the cons here should explain everything just by reading the name of it. If you are looking for a more detailed reason for each con that I listed then check out the link below that leads to the Google document.---> Link[docs.google.com]

Conclusion:
I tried my best to find something redeemable about Darksiders 3, some good aspects, something positive in this ocean of cons but I just couldn't... Virgil Games god rest their soul left behind a template and legacy for future developers to follow with that being Darksiders 1 and 2. Gunfire Games should have written down notes on the good aspects of both those games and take those good aspects whilst adding a sprinkle of their own touch and uniqueness. Instead, they looked to Dark Souls as inspiration, saw that it was popular and that it sold millions of copies, and decided to copy it for a game that was never designed to be a Souls title. Dark Souls has a rich world and punishing but fair gameplay whilst Darksiders 3 has unfair gameplay, frustrating mechanics, and a soulless world as ironic as that sounds. My message to Gunfire Games. Please never make another Darksiders game again. You clearly don't have the passion or respect for the Darksiders franchise even when Virgil Games left you behind a wonderful legecy. You instead chose to chase trends because it is safer and passion be damned! As for gamers, Darksiders 3 was a huge waste of my time, I'll never play this entry ever again, I've gotten all of my achievements and that is it for me. I will revist Darksiders 1 and 2 a few years from now for sure but Darksiders 3 will be sent into the void library to never be seen again. If you like Souls games then you might like this but honestly at that point, just play Darks Souls if you haven't already. For classic Darksiders fans, stay away, it is not worth playing this even for free.

Days Gone

"We make the world what it is, by what we do. All of us."

Introduction:
If any of you fellas have been following my Steam reviews for some time now, you might have stumbled upon my profile & in turn seen my list of my all-time favorite games/franchises. The vast majority of them are games that I grew up with in the late 2000s & early 2010s. 2011 is still to me considered the best year for gaming. As such the latest game to have ended up on that list was The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt & that was in 2016, for the next 4 or years no game would end up on that list until 3 very special PlayStation games would capture my heart & spoil me rotten. This is the story of one of them.

Days Gone when it was first announced took people's attention straight away. At first, it might have seemed like another zombie apocalypse survival shooter & you would be right to think that way. Even I did until the developers showed us their magnum opus. The hordes mechanic, something that wasn't possible now became a reality. On your screen, you could battle from up to 100 to even 300 or more fast-moving & furious zombies! Couple that with an addicting gameplay loop, a well-written story, a diverse & expansive world, dynamic characters, & a real difficulty scale & you have the recipe for a perfect game that will be remembered throughout the ages.

The Story:
Days Gone takes place in the post-apocalyptic ruins of the United States. A mysterious Virus has decimated the global population & turned everyone who was infected into ravaging brutes that have come to be known as Freakers. They are kind of like a mix of the Zombies from Train To Busan & the Darkseekers from I Am Legend. They hibernate, migrate, & eat anything they can slay. Any form of governance & order is long gone, what's left of the civilian population has either retreated into makeshift camp forts, turned to bounty hunting & drifting, or turned to banditry & preying on the weak. You play as an ex-US Army Soldier turned Outlaw Biker Deacon St. John, together with his fellow biker brother William "Boozer" Gray, They make a living & survive as mercenaries in the ruins of Oregon. Deacon lost his wife Sarah Whitaker at the beginning of the outbreak. Ridden with guilt, he struggles to move on, The two lads plan to head north in search of a better life and to be rid of the ghosts of the past. That is until a black helicopter bearing the NERO Symbolc (National Emergency Response Organization) is sighted by Deacon, NERO was the organization that was meant to save Sarah during the outbreak, with NERO being back, Deacon regains some hope that perhaps his wife might still be alive... Your journey starts here.

Pros:
● Incredible story
● Addicting gameplay
● Good blend of survival gameplay
● Unique setting
● Living breathing world
● Dynamic weather
● Steam achievements
● Steam trading cards
● Great soundtrack
● Game length
● Stellar performance
● Lots of great guns to use
● Monstrous freaker hordes
● Mod support
● Great character development
● Brutality/Gore done right
● Lots of bike parts to earn
● Amazing photo mode
● Top-notch voice acting
● Multiple dialogue language options

Cons:
● Lack of any unique zombies
● Infuriating Survivor glitch
● Odd Weapon Crosshair Choices
● Shrinking Weapon Crosshairs
● Proximity Mines
● Proximity Bombs & Remote Bombs are wonky and glitchy

Pros & Cons Summary:
I hit the character limit so I’m going to be leaving a Google document where I will have every pro and con of the game summarized. If you are looking for a short but informative review that gets straight to the point then the pros & cons here should explain everything just by reading the name of it. If you are looking for a more detailed reason for each con that I listed then check out the link below that leads to the Google document.---> Link[docs.google.com]

Conclusion:
When Days Gone was first released, critics & reviewers online blasted this game with tons of hate, needless to say, I was one of the people to buy into their narrative & as such avoided buying Days Gone on launch when it came out, it wasn't until my Uncle borrowed me his copy that I gave it a go after of course, my brother did first & honestly. That was THE LAST TIME I would ever listen to reviews online & critics online because Days Gone is a game made with love & passion, I f*cking love this game! The critics online who are tasteless hacks did Days Gone dirty. This is an underrated game, a downright masterpiece, and a few years from now It will be considered a timeless jewel. I haven't loved and been addicted to a game like this since The Witcher 3 and that was back in 2016. Days Gone is an incredible zombie survival game filled with an actual zombie threat, an incredible story, an expansive world, and an addicting gameplay loop that will keep you coming back for more. Bend Games totally knocked it out of the park when it comes to Days Gone but sadly due to the critics, we likely won't ever see a sequel but that shouldn't be a reason you shouldn't explore this quality game. Very few games nowadays end up in my favorite game list of all time but I am proud to say that Days Gone is one of those games to have earned a spot in my heart and my eternal memory.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine

"Courage and Honour!"

Introduction:
I love Warhammer, especially the 40,000 universe but for as long as Warhammer 40K has existed there has been a real lack of actual interesting Warhammer 40K games that aren't 99% RTS and Strategy. I managed to secure Space Marine some years ago but never really thought about playing it until about 2 years ago when I did and I was super pissed that I slept on this game for so long.

Because this is not only one of the best Warhammer 40K games but it also serves as a perfect introduction to new players who hope to get into the dark bleak far future world of Warhammer 40K. It's got a perfect mix of gunplay, melee, enemy variety, and just pure badassery that will make you shout "FOR THE EMPEROR!" throughout your slaughter of Xenos.

The Story:
The Planet Graia comes under attack by an Ork War Party numbering millions. Graia serves as a Forge World that makes billions of tons of equipment to keep the Imperial War Machine going and one of those weapons is a pattern of the famous and deadly Warlord Class Titan. A loss of this planet is unacceptable and it falling to the Orks is out of the question. But the Imperial Guard Battle Fleet will take 5-40 days to arrive, time that can not be spared. So the Ultramarines 2nd Company is called up and deployed to serve as Vanguard and to secure the important manufactorum that builds the Warlord Class Titan. You play as Captain Titus and you begin your attack on the damned Orks!

Pros:
● Compelling story
● Lots of 40K lore ~ Let me just begin by saying that 40K has probably some of the largest record documentation of lore. The lore is insanely massive and even I still don't know 15% of it. But for beginners, Space Marine does a great job at introducing you to the world of 40K without overloading you to the point where you don't know even who you play as.

● WAAAGH HORDES! ~ An Ork WAAAAAAAGH is a large gathering of Orks for the massive military campaigns they unleash on the galaxy. I thought that with Space Marine being from 2011 and having to be made on Consoles, it would actually not be that massive and that we might see maybe like 6-8 Orks at the same time on the screen but to my surprise that wasn't the case. You can fight up to a grand total of 15 to sometimes even 20 Ork Boyz at once with many types of variants thrown into the horde. Really impressive and it makes me hyped to see what they will achieve in Space Marine 2 with the Tyranids.

● Very enjoyable gameplay ~ The main selling point of Space Marine. It does a spectacular job of combining gunplay with hack and slashing and mobility. You can sprint at your enemies with a chain sword in hand or assault from the air using a jump pack and slamming down like Thor with a Thunder Hammer or simply use guns from a range overwhelming your enemies with grenades and rolling out of the way from incoming attacks. There is a playstyle for everyone.

● Satisfying hack 'n' slash ~ You start off with an Astartes Combat Knife before being given access to the famous Chainsword and along your journey, you may find other melee weapons like the Power Axe or Thunder Hammer. All of them are super fun to play with and they all have their own unique set of combos and finishers. You don't know how satisfying it is to finish an Ork Warboss using the Thunder Hammer till you try it.

● Satisfying gunplay ~ Wherever you prefer to fight up close and personal or pick targets from the range or fight somewhere in between, Space Marine has got you covered. After all a Space Marine is nothing without his weapons and Relic Entertainment knew that very well when they were making this game.

● Lots of weapons ~ You also get a lot of new guns to play with like the famous and well-renowned Bolter, the scorching Melta, or even the explosive Vengence Launcher. You can shoot, blow, burn, and disintegrate all of your enemies in style.

● Fun multiplayer ~ Despite what little I played off it and despite the very small population, it is a really fun MP mode. Reminds me heavily of the old days in the early 2010s when everything had to have a multiplayer. You play either as the Space Marines or the Chaos Marines from which you can pick your favorite chapters like the Salamanders or Night Lords to name a few and customize your armor. You may even play the Exterminatus mode where you team up with 3 other players and take on 20 waves of Orks using whatever weapons you like. It's a fun side activity for people who want more after they are done with the campaign although the low player numbers might prevent you from enjoying this mode to the fullest.

● Augmented Mod ~ Probably one of the best mods I've seen someone make for a Warhammer game. It expands on the Exterminatus mode and allows you to enjoy the mode in much better ways by introducing tons of additional content like new Armors like the MK2 Crusader Armor or the Mark 4 Maximus Armor, new weapons like the Flamer, Power Fist, Autocannon, etc: new classes like the Apochatery, new enemies like the Necrons to fight. ability to play as Chaos, WAY more chapters for both Loyalists and Traitors, solo PVE bot support to even trying to get a Dreadnought to function in Exterminatus and the Terminator Armor. The mod is still being worked on to this day and the amount of content to be found here is just incredible... Do yourself a favor and download the Augmented Mod if you will plan to play Exterminatus, it's so much better than the vanilla version.

● Graphics still hold up
● Good performance
● Steam achievements
● Steam trading cards

Cons:
● No FOV Slider
● Controls switch
● Static objects block you
● Health Regain
● Ork Rocketeers

Cons Summarized:
I hit the character limit so I’m going to be leaving a Google document where I will have every con of the game summarized. If you are looking for a short but informative review that gets straight to the point then the cons here should explain everything just by reading the name of it. If you are looking for a more detailed reason for each con that I listed then check out the link below that leads to the Google document.---> Link[docs.google.com]

Conclusion:
With Space Marine 2 on the horizon, now is the best time to play Space Marine and get a taste of that Space Marine action. It's short but super fun and it goes on sale very often for sometimes even as low as £10. Everyone in the Warhammer 40K community agrees that Warhammer 40K Space Marine is one of the best Warhammer 40K Third-Person games to have come out and you will have a blast with it. Hack 'n' slashing, shooting & blasting and just feeling the general badassery that comes with being a Space Marine in the dark future. I do believe the game could have been a bit better if the Developers did add some more melee weapons to the campaign or more sections where you can use the jump pack but other than those minor annoyances. Space Marine absolutely nails the fun aspect. Just don't get into this game expecting some kind of a crazy story with dramatic twists and turns, the story is compelling but nothing crazy. Enjoy the gameplay and nothing else. A final note I also wanted to say is that I really wish we got more Warhammer both 40K and even fantasy that were this fun. Games Workshop truly sit on one of the most innovative and unique IPs out there and they do very little with it in terms of games. But enough of that, BRING ON SPACE MARINE 2! I WANT TO ANNIHILATE SOME TYRANIDS!

The Evil Within

"Enter The Mind of a Madman"

Introduction:
This game has been on my backburner for quite a few years. I remember when it first came out and I had shown some interest but it wasn't until at least 2017 that I brought a copy. I'm not going to lie when I say that I regret not playing The Evil Within sooner. Is it a perfect game? No, absolutely not, but I can't remember the last time where I played a game that awarded you the player with careful planning, movement, and overall thinking. It's essentially a survival horror from the old days.

The Evil Within is a 2014 third-person survival horror with a huge emphasis on survival, it's not the scariest game, in fact, there were very few actual moments where I got legitimately scared. The majority of times where I got scared was mainly because I had multiple enemies, no supplies, or was on low health. More of a tense situation feeling that you get instead of a legitimate scare factor.

The Story:
The Evil Within is set in a fictional US city by the name of Krimson City. You play as Police detective Sebastian Castellanos. You alongside your other cop buddies get a call from Dispatch that at Beacon Mental Hospital there was a huge mass murder. Upon arriving on the crime scene and investigating the CCTV room as well as the dead patients and staff members. Something odd and unexplainable happens. Before you know it you blacked out and you're now dangling from a chain in some eerie basement full of death. You have no idea what is happening, where you are, or what is the status of your mission. For now, all you know that you should do is survive because you will be going on one hell of a wild roller coaster from here on out.

Pros:
● Great level design ~ Each level is unique and different from one another. On one level you will be on a farmland whilst on another level, you will be in an industrial factory. No level is the same and they all offer different creepy settings full of their own twists and surprises.

● Very strong atmosphere ~ Every level has its own eerie atmosphere to it. Some levels are big and give you this uneasy feeling whilst others are small and will offer you a claustrophobic feeling. Each level in the game will have a different atmosphere that varies from your previous one.

● Actually difficult ~ Even when playing on the normal difficulty I ended up dying quite a few dozen times. Enemies hit hard and they will be ruthless. If enemies won't kill you then the various booby traps will. There will be harder, bigger, and tougher enemies to fight as well, sometimes in combination with packs of smaller enemies. Better keep your head in the game.

● Good level of gore ~ Something that I always appreciated in video games was when the gore/brutality was done well and The Evil Within doesn't shy away from that. A point-blank shot with a shotgun will destroy whatever will be standing in front of you, higher caliber weapons will always pop your enemies' heads like watermelons. It will give you an immersive satisfaction and feeling knowing that you're holding a powerful weapon in your hand but do remember that enemies can kill you just as brutally as you can kill them. Don't underestimate them or you will watch your character die a horrible death.

● Combat is satisfying ~ You have a huge arsenal of weapons that you will stumble upon during your journey. From a simple revolver which will be your Jack of all Trades to your Agony Crossbow that has multiple types of crossbow bolts for you to craft. Each of them has its own usage that can be used in various situations. Upon finishing specific tasks you will also be able to unlock special weapons like an SMG but the SMG is really more of a luxury weapon than it is a conventional weapon. Despite the game being 7 years old, the combat is still really fun and smooth.

● Lots of combat strategizing ~ Since enemies will hit hard and levels will be full of nasty surprises, you will have to strategize yourself quite a lot, simply rushing up front will get you killed quickly. You can and you should set up kill zones, choke points for your enemies. Disarm traps to use against your enemies and establish fallback locations in case an enemy you're fighting doesn't go down initially. Ammo will be scarce so you should plan to finish fights in ways where you will not use up an unnecessary amount of ammunition. It's a lot of fun and whilst playing TEW I felt like an Army Commando with all of this planning and successful executing of said plan.

● Really fun & unique enemies to encounter ~ The Haunted is the name of the enemies you will fight. They come in various sizes with different weapons. Some might be small and will carry a simple one-handed melee weapon whilst others might be bulky and will carry a two-handed melee weapon. Some enemies will also use guns against you. The bosses themselves are also extremely intimidating, they're huge, menacing and one hell of a foe to fight. Sometimes running, sneaking, and hiding is the way to go, believe me when I say there is no shame in running to fight another day.

● Nice feeling of loneliness ~ Your cop buddies are going to be far and few between. When they appear they won't be there to stay for long. You will always be on your toes and most likely alone 90% of the game. It really helps set the atmosphere and immersion more but the story in my opinion suffers as a result of this. More on that below.

● Steam achievements
● Steam trading cards

Cons:
● Subpar PC port
● No mouse side button support
● Microsoft Store Exclusive Version
● Very low character development
● Convoluted story Need to play the DLC to understand it
● The DLC isn't even fun to play through
● Assault rifle enemies
● Magnum is pointless

Cons Summarized:
I hit the character limit so I’m going to be leaving a google document where I will have every con of the game summarized. If you are looking for a short but informative review that gets straight to the point then the cons here should explain everything just by reading the name of it. If you are looking for a more detailed reason for each con that I listed then check out the link below that leads to the Google document.---> Link[docs.google.com]

Conclusion:
Despite The Evil Within lacking in any good story plot and character development it for sure makes it up in the gameplay department. I found myself enjoying the game purely for the gameplay alone whenever it would be my turn to play the game in the next few upcoming days. The planning, slow thinking, and strategizing when on low supplies really made for a fun experience. But as I had mentioned above, this isn't the kind of game in my opinion that you play to experience a good story or any good character development. The Evil Within goes on sale for very cheap but even at the full price of £7.99, you will find fun in this neat little survival horror.

Batman: Arkham Knight

"One Final Night for Batman..."

Introduction:
Man what a journey the Batman: Arkham franchise has been. I think everyone remembers when Arkham Asylum first came out in 2009, who would've thought that one lone game would kick off 3 more games in the eventual Arkham Franchise and who would've thought that all of those games would be so incredible in their own way. Batman Arkham Knight is 6 years old!!! But regardless of that age, it has aged like fine wine today. Funnily enough everyone including me remembers what state this game was on launch in 2015. It was an absolute mess of a PC Port. It was such a mess that it had to be taken off the stores in order for it to be worked on. But I can safely say that the PC port today is nowhere near what it was back in 2015. It is a smooth and beautiful-looking game albeit with some bothersome issues that you can read up below.

Batman: Arkham Knight is a 2015 third-person action-adventure game. It is the fourth and final installation into the Batman: Arkham franchise. It has the best story IMO, the ultimate combat system, upgrades, map, and so forth. I can safely say that Batman AK is the ultimate sendoff to a powerful and respectable game franchise.

The Story:
Arkham Knight is set 9 months after the events of Arkham City. The Clown Prince of Crime has finally met his end and with his end. Gotham's citizens have never felt safer, and crime in the city has dramatically declined. But this is all about to change on the night of Halloween. Scarecrow who hasn't been seen since the events of Arkham Asylum reveals himself and threatens to use his newest strain of fear toxin on Gotham City. This forces an evacuation of Gotham's 6 million civilian population leaving the entire city empty and barren. With only the hardened criminals, rioters, Batman, and the GCPD remaining. But there is a 5th faction that is working with Scarecrow. Batman might not be able to save Gotham City this time around...

Pros:
● Amazing narrative
● Beautiful graphics
● Ultimate combat system
● New enemies types
● New mechanics & dangers found in stealth
● New amazing gadgets
● New and awesome combat moves
● Ultimate utility gadget upgrades
● Expansive and amazing DLC
● The Batmobile
● Performance
● The biggest Arkham map to date
● The biggest amount of collectibles to date
● Steam trading cards
● Steam Achievements
● New and old returning characters in challenge mode & their own DLCs

Pros Summarized:
I hit the character limit so I’m going to be leaving a google document where I will have every pro of the game summarized. If you are looking for a short but informative review that gets straight to the point then the pros here should explain everything just by reading the name of it. If you are looking for a more detailed reason for each pro that I listed then check out the link below that leads to the Google document. ---> Link[docs.google.com]

Cons:
● Missed opportunity to bring back all playable characters ~ As is tradition in Arkham challenge mode, you may play as various characters. Arkham Asylum had the lowest amount of playable characters and it wasn't until in Arkham City where you had a huge selection improvement. Sure you can play as Harley Quinn for the first time in an Arkham game in AK but I really wish they took the time to also bring back Joker who was playable in Arkham Asylum and Deathstroke who was playable in Arkham Origins. It's not a big deal as you truly have the biggest selection of characters available in challenge mode in AK. But I just find it a bit disappointing they they couldn't bring back those two popular characters especially since they already had the template for it.

● Weakest boss battles in the franchise ~ Out of all of the Arkham games, AK has the weakest boss battles. AO still holds the number 1 spot for me when it comes to boss battles. One-half of the big fights take place inside the batmobile which if you like playing a tank vs tank fight then it will be good for you but if you're in it for loud fist combat then you will be disappointed. The other half is stealth boss battles which are so painfully easy that I could go make a cup of tea and the fight would be over when I come back up. Simply put the boss battles yes even the DLC's are weak and not really anything incredible if even mediocre.

Conclusion:
A fantastic finale to a respectable video game franchise. The Arkham series is over and whilst I am sad about it to even this day. I am happy that the finale came out the way it did. It took mostly everything from the other Arkham games and made it even more awesome. The Pros alone speak for themselves and they do outweigh the two tiny cons that are frankly a subjective opinion. Arkham fans couldn't have asked for a better send-off if you ask me. Batman AK goes on sale for very cheap during sales but If you loved the previous Arkham games then you shall not regret paying the current full price of £15.99.

Dishonored

"Revenge Solves Everything."

Introduction:
I have a funny story to tell you about Dishonored. I did manage to nick myself a copy of Dishonored back when I was a console player years ago when I was on holiday in Poland. I was so excited to try it out because I heard many good things about it, sadly I had issues with the language. Believe it or not but the only languages you could play that copy of Dishonored were Polish, Czech, and Hungarian... And on top of that, you had to manually switch the language on your console, the game was spoken in English of course but everything text-wise was in languages I couldn't read or understand. So only last year did I truly get to enjoy the game from start to finish, blasphemy I say. Oy wait, the review...

Dishonored is a 2012 action stealth game played from a first-person perspective with an emphasis on stealth. A lot of people praise Dishonored as being a superb fantastic game and I'll tell you this much. It's good at what it does, it's a short and linear game but it has lots of replayability and lots of paths that you can take to always ensure a different ending or outcome.

The Story:
Dishonored is set in a fictional world on a fictional planet, It should be noted that Earth doesn't exist here and there is no "Our Universe." You play as Corvo Attano. The Royal Protector of the Emperor/Empress of the Empire of the Isles. Returning from a foreign voyage, he brings the Empress news of the developing plague that is consuming the capital city Dunwall one by one. With all hope shattered at this being an exclusive plague found in the capital city that could be contained, the reunion is cut short when a masked Assassin finds a way onto the roof, a battle endures and despite his best effort, the strong almost magical like power of the Chief Assassin is too great for Corvo to handle. The Empress is killed by the Assassin and the daughter is kidnapped whilst Corvo can do nothing but watch. With her dying breath, she asks the Royal Protector to save her daughter and to ensure that the Empire won't descend into chaos. Before he can keep his promise, Corvo is arrested by the Royal Spymaster and he accuses him of treason, assassination, and kidnapping, clearly, this was a Coup d'état in the making. 6 months later, Corvo is serving his time in the Dunwall prison when an opportunity arrives to break free and seek to clear his name. Your story starts here.

Pros:
● Decent Story
● Pleasing graphics
● Aesthetic setting
● Awesome lore
● Enjoyable gameplay
● Extensive weapon pool
● Really nice optimization
● Assassination target options
● Great DLC
● Steam achievements

Cons:
● Playstyle gatekeeping
● Very few non-lethal weapons
● Almost all powers are for loud combat
● No Steam trading cards

Pros & Cons Summary:
I hit the character limit so I’m going to be leaving a Google document where I will have every pro and con of the game summarized. If you are looking for a short but informative review that gets straight to the point then the pros & cons here should explain everything just by reading the name of it. If you are looking for a more detailed reason for each con that I listed then check out the link below that leads to the Google document.---> Link[docs.google.com]

Conclusion:
Dishonored is a unique and mixed bag for me to say the very least. By far the positive aspects of it are the lore, worldbuilding, and the choices you get presented with during your missions. But at the same time, the negative aspects of it are the restrictions the game sort of forces onto you if you're looking to go around killing enemies and exacting revenge on this corrupt regime, the lack of a good balance of non-lethal weapons to accommodate the lethal weapon array and the powers being only viable in loud combat which the game does its best to discourage you from doing it. Dishonored is not really my kind of game and whilst I did enjoy my time with it, I am more of a loud chaotic kind of dude who loves getting down and dirty. But if you're looking for something to change your style of gameplay or are looking for a game that gives you a taste of something that isn't purely loud, and chaotic and forces improvisation then Dishonored will be the game for you without a doubt. Combined with the many various options of gameplay and the choices. Dishonored will allow you to strategize and plan out your mission to assassinate or remove an individual target from power.

Gears Tactics

"Rise Up and Fight."

Introduction:
As someone who never really took interest in strategy games of any kind, I turned out to be really surprised by just how fun Gears Tactics turned out to be. I'm a huge Gears of War fan, I love all of the games in the franchise and I just happen to be a lore expert but when Gears Tactics was first announced I was like "meh, it's not for me."

Eventually, I learned that it has gotten a really positive rating from fans and strategy game fans. So I decided to see what all of the hype was about and I tested the game from a "free source" and I was honestly surprised at just how fun it turned out to be.

The Story:
Gears Tactics takes place two years after the onset of the Locust War. You play as Gabriel Diaz, a soldier in the Coalition of Ordered Governments Army Engineering Corps and a veteran of the Pendulum Wars. Having partaken in a battle during the Pendulum Wars that diminished his morale and trust for the COG government, Gabe demoted himself. (This detail bothered me, you CAN'T demote yourself in the Military, you can ask to be demoted but you can't voluntarily demote yourself. Don't know what the writers were thinking here.) Now having relocated to the motor pool and serving as a Sergeant. Two years into the Locust War, Chairman Prescott orders all cities outside of Jacinto to be glassed using the Hammer of Dawn. Gabe waiting for the hammer strike in the motor pool is visited by a grunt named Sid Redburn who gives him a mission directly from Chairman Prescott. Your story starts here.

Pros:
● Interesting story ~ The story isn't some kind of a woozer. It's a decent story for people who would enjoy it. At least it doesn't involve Kait, her headaches, and her attitude.

● Addicting strategic gameplay ~ There are a lot of moves you can make during your turns like shooting an enemy or providing covering fire thanks to a skill called Overwatch or having various different skill that you can obtain from your skill tree-like being able to leech an enemies health or getting more action points. The gameplay can be either slow or fast depending on how much of a good strategist you're and if you can always anticipate your enemy's movements.

● Make your own Squad ~ You will have to build your own Squad and the decision on how you build them is up to you. Do you want to recruit as many people as you can so you have a cannon fodder conscript style of Army or do you want to build a small but professional Military force? The choice is all yours and with the amount of customization you can do on each soldier, you will be able to create your own micro Military force that you desire.

● Extensive customization ~ You can have your own little Squad or Army. You may customize your troops extensively such as giving them various kinds of scars or changing their hair color or style or even deciding what kind of cosmetic gear they wear such as Boonie hats or berets. You may even give them first names and surnames alongside a callsign. It really makes you feel like you're building an Army.

● So many armors ~ As someone who loves the Gears of War armor sets, Gears Tactics really blew me away at how many choices of armors you can equip your troops with. You have your standard Trooper armor and Cadet armor but you may even find rare pieces of armor such as UIR regulator armor or the famous Hunter armor as it would be used later by Tai Kaliso in Gears of War 2. I won't spoil much but if you're a Military enthusiast and a Gears of War fan then you will find yourself right at home.

● Lots of various enemies to kill ~ From Rifle Drones to Grenadiers to even Theron Guards. Gears Tactics will ensure that you won't always be a step ahead as it will slowly introduce new enemy types to you as you progress through the game.

● Some nice lore addons ~ If you're a lore nerd like myself then you will appreciate some of the new lore additions that you will learn about the early years of the Locust War. The earliest form of the Locust War that we got to experience in the Gears games before Tactics was Judgement which was 6 weeks into the war and Raam's Shadow which was on the 9th year so to get to experience something in between is a nice addition for lore fans like myself.

● Various classes ~ You have 5 classes to use in Gears Tactics, Support, Vanguard, Sniper, Scout, and Heavy. Each of them comes with its own little subclass which allows you to build a character in a certain way. Each of those classes also has its own primary weapon to go with.

● Extensive skill tree building ~ As mentioned above, Gears Tactics has 5 different classes each with its own subclasses. Each class comes with 4 subclasses giving you a total of 20 subclasses. Not all of your Support classes have to be medics for example. Some of them can be damage dealers or defenders. You will decide how to build your soldiers and how they will perform on the battlefield.

● Game length ~ Depending on the kind of player you're and the level. Levels can between 30 minutes to an hour if not slightly longer. If you're hoping for a 20 hour strategy game then Gears Tactics has you covered.
● Steam Achievements

Cons:
● No Steam trading cards
● Case randomization
● Skill point reset token
● Pre-built characters and limit
● Bombing run missions
● Final boss
● No selectable modifiers

Pros & Cons Summary:
I hit the character limit so I’m going to be leaving a google document where I will have every pro and con of the game summarized. If you are looking for a short but informative review that gets straight to the point then the pros & cons here should explain everything just by reading the name of it. If you are looking for a more detailed reason for each con that I listed then check out the link below that leads to the Google document.---> Link[docs.google.com]

Conclusion:
Gears Tactics despite a number of issues is a really fun game for both players of strategy games and Gears of War fans. Being able to customize your soldiers with iconic Gears of War armors and equipping them with the best weapons mods is a tremendously amazing and fun feeling. Seeing your Army grow from a Militia to a professional small Military force is a really nice feeling. The price is quite high by default so I recommend you to buy it during sales or try it out first to see if you will like it. I do wish that Gears Tactics would receive mod support like Xcom 2 as that would provide extensive and insane replay value and way more fun but even without mod support. Gears Tactics remains a really fun game with enjoyable gameplay and a nice story to go along with it.
