Early Access Review
Imagine Dice looking at this and asking how does this game be better than their game
one Dice employe buys and tests it for a week
week passes CEO askes "how was it?"
the employee responds "a master piece" with a big smile and a tear falling down his cheek

A teenage developer who manages to release great updates every week, new, detailed maps several times a year and no pay to win; this is a really good game. 500 hours and still enjoying myself. The Gold Upgrade lets you change the colour of your skin (Possibly to abuse as camouflage) I see this as the only major advantage a paying player would have over a free-to-play player.

EDIT: This review is receiving a lot of critique, to clear up: Most free to play games rely on overpowered bonuses to get people to buy in-game products. This game lets you camouflage better and have more storage space by switching between characters. In comparison to other pay-to-win games this is a very small bonus. I'd say most people buy it to support the developer with the small bonuses as an extra incentive.

EDIT 2: It's free to play, you can't expect a perfect game from a single developer. Additionally, he needs a way to incentivize people to buy the Gold Upgrade for him to make any money. If it was completely useless, fewer people would buy it. It really doesn't affect gameplay all that much.

Overall: Good game. I like it. Not pay-to-win like many other games in this genre. 9/10

Let me tell an amazing story about what trove what once was compared to what trove is now.

EDIT3: HERE IS A COUNTUP FOR THE TIME THE DEVELOPERS STILL HAVE NOT RESPONDED TO THIS REVIEW.
https://www.tickcounter.com/countup/22961/time-since-no-developer-reponse-for-my-top-review-on-trove-with-various-complaints

What was:
An amazing sandbox/RPG style game that existed when I was in 8th grade(around 2 years ago). I would log in with one of my best friends and play, level, and build. Classes cost in game currency, so it only took around ~2 months for me of playing an hour a day to obtain every single class. Leveling was not difficult, mounts were not hard to get, and reaching max level was only a matter of time and not that far from people who spent money on this game. Market was somewhat balanced, item mall did not give too many OP items, and it was possible to see people reach max level without spending a single cent. Streamers were nice, loved the game(I was part of a streamer's guild and watched 20 hours of his stream), and had massive giveaways that simply made every minute of this game fun to play. Grinding was not that annoying since drop rates were not unreasonable, and crafting materials were not so difficult to find or buy from others. When I would happen to get bored(very rarely), it would be a 'why not' to just go ahead and play some soccer from a stadium one of the guild members created. Toxicity and scammers were uncommon, since many people were flourishing and being quite successful both economically and emotionally. I was mastery 60/100 at that time after only about ~150 hours(before steam release obviously).
After Steam Release:
Trove created a "Patron Pass", basically a premium subscription based system that when activated, gave double drop rate, double exp, and multiple other benefits. This seemed miniscule at first, since not only was this given out two weeks for free, the buffs do not look that overpowered at first. However, at a deeper glance, trove seemed to slowly lower drop rates for rare items, and people would have to rely on Patron benefits to simply live like the old life of the f2p player BEFORE the steam release. However, this by itself was not bad, since trove gained more populrity, Trion struggeld to keep servers up. Level cap increased to 200. I only pushed myself for another 40-50 hours to make myself readch around level 90/200. Many systems were added to late game characters that seemed to break the economy, as late game players were the ones with 99% of the money. Imagine the game's economy going into a elitist form of economy, that's how it became. Materials became 20x more expensive(Going from 1 flux to 20) and some items were downright impossible to afford. I realized even though I spend more than 150 hours on this game before steam release, I was no poorer than a brand new player who spent 10 hours after steam realease.
After the "Cancer Patch":
This. This is the patch that ruined the game. Trion made it so classes could no longer be purchased with in game currency. Trion claimed that this was to increase the variety among the classes and make people feel more individualized. However, nothing was actually done TO the classes to make them feel more different. In fact, besides a few unnoticable buffs/nerfs, classes remained virtually the same, so Trion failed to communicate that to the people. Although I had every single class(they released a class later that I obviously cannot get without giving them my cash), it seemed like a horrendously stupid move as more people started to actually play this game.
The classes problem was only the beginning. They added flying mounts later(Dragons). At first this sounds like an amazing idea, as these flying mounts were faster than wings. However, you'd have to do daily quests every day for around a month to obtain one. That system was cancer, since logging in every day to do the same thing just to log out was monotonous and boring, Trion decided to scrap that system too. Since players were actually obtaining these mounts(How horrible right? /s), Trion decided to nerf this system and make a convoluted system where getting these dragons was near impossible and you would literally have to spend x3 the time getting these materials(since they divided the item into a 3 part item that needed to be crafted, hence x3 the time), getting these mounts was a fruitless endeavor.
As stated before, the economy was in ruin, so there was no way to be able to recover without buying items to sell in the item mall, or buying mounts directly that increased your level. I gave up at level 100/300, dirt broke even after grinding in the beta and doing 50 hours of grinding after steam release. Streamers have quit, even the streamer's guild I mentioned before had dissipated(LegendaryStudios). All my friends quit and think of this only as a 'meme game'. After Trion added more and more to the item mall that made this game completely pay2win, this game became a generic f2p that lost all originality that this game once was. This game had a lot of history with me, and now that simply is just a memory.

Beta:
9/10
Steam Release:
5/10
"Cancer" Patch:
1/10

EDIT1:I have recently read other reviews and I have noticed a common pattern. Devs seem to ignore and lock threads that have expressed concerns for the huge amount of bugs(since I did not mention these in my original review), huge gameplay downsides, and obvious player distaste for the cancer patch. When the players showed their absolute animosity towards changing a major system in the game(such as the classes costing real money), Trion did NOTHING to calm down the players or change this horrible system.

EDIT2:I never knew this review would actually gain a lot of support from the steam community, so thanks for the support. However, I will say be wary of this review and if it gets taken down, you know what happened

I'm going to recommend this game but I'm doing so very reluctantly. Last night was the last time I logged in because I decided to quit the game after playing for around 1.5 months.

I went into this game knowing very little about it. All I heard was "played driven economy" and "everything is crafted by the player" which sounded like a huge appeal. The PvP element became very obvious to me early on. Now, to anyone reading this, Albion Online is a game made around PvP. PvP is its heart no matter what anyone else gonna tell you. Even if you want to steer clear from PvP and focus only on gathering/refining/crafting you STILL have to deal with PvP in terms of gankers.

Gankers is the reason I decided to leave the game. I'm not much into PvP though I tried to get involved during my time in there. The game is fantastic with its gathering and crafting system. For me it was rubbing an itch in an unexpected manner. I was looking forward to improve my character to craft higher tier items and make a living as some sort of artisan-trader in-game.

I'm going to describe the event that lead to me quitting and I'll try to use layman terms so that people who haven't played the game will get a general idea of what happened.

I gather animal hides from a PvP zone (Black Zone). The reason I do that in the PvP zone is because that level of Hides you'd only get in these type of zone. There's a hideout where I was stashing all my hides. I've amass one week worth of hides and decided to move that stash to the royal city (safe city hub). As usual, I took whichever path I thought was the safest. 10 gankers showed up out of nowhere and melted my mount (T6 Ox) within second and killed me. My gear and my loot was worth around 1.5m silver (for anyone playing the game for around 1.5 months, that's a big amount of silver). It was disheartening, I was quite annoyed at first but a few hours later I left it behind me.

Fast forward later that day. I have multiple farms. I use my farms to plant herbs then I use those herbs to craft Poison. Poison is an item used in PvE/PvP contents. So, on a daily basis I gather my herbs and then craft potion. Afterward I would move to a Royal City to sell my potion. I gathered my herd. I crafted my potion. I was on my way to the royal city. Once more, took what I thought was going to be a safe route (again, not the same everyday). When I was literally a few feet from the entrance of a safe zone, 10 people showed up from nowhere again and ganked me. Effectively looting me from another 1.5m silver worth of equipment and potion.

At this point, I was completely crushed. Now, while I lost 3m silver and for most people who are just starting out it would be a huge lost... for me it was a huge lost which I knew I could come back from. From day 1 of playing this game I've been super optimal in what I do and would always look for the best way to invest my silver to build a steady stream of revenue. I knew the lost silver probably represent 5% - 6% of what I'd possibly make in one month or even less if I scale the stuff I do... BUT... I just don't want to deal with this anymore. The negative feeling I got in that moment, the mood shifting from happy crafter to depressed because of a silly game and virtual currency... Nah, this is not for me, I don't want to deal with that.

One thing you should know is that gankers will always have the upper hand in this game. Gankers are always going to look for weak target. A weak target is a trader who is just starting to get some success but not quite there yet... meaning the trader is always traveling with equipment that are weak (not in a fighting condition) and/or mount that are slow (can't outrun the enemy). Traders (gatherers/crafters) are easy target and getting ganked is there daily life. A solo trader have almost no protection against gank. Against 1 ganker, you're probably safe. Against 2, it could be hectic if your mount is weak. Against 3, the chance of escape starts to become slim but its there. Against 4, you might get super lucky (or they're awfully dumb as a rock). Against 5? Against TEN? Nah, just stand there and accept your fate.

Ganking is part of that PvP element. There's no removing it. Any suggestion to facilitate the life of traders will be met with harsh criticism from various parties. The game has one of the best gathering and crafting system out there but its weighed down heavily with ganking. There's almost no joy in gathering at higher level; you're constantly under stress of getting ganked. The only temporary joy is when you go to your hideout to hide your stash but you're still facing the anxiety of bringing that load back to the royal city. You might get start and hire a Scout to get you a clear path but at this point, what you're paying the scout might negate any revenue you'd make gathering early on.

What happened to me is not a tragedy, its just part of the cycle. My wall of text is not a big sign telling you to go back, its just a stern warning of what you're getting into.

If you are the type of player who enjoys PvP then go right ahead, you're gonna find a great amount of joy in this game. People who wants to steer clear from PvP? You can't. Full stop.

Again, I'm still giving this a recommend because the game is good. The system works as intended. Just keep in mind that PvP is the core of this game and there's no escaping from this

O lado estratégico do jogo parece infinito. Nunca há jogos iguais e podes escolher entre mais de 100 heróis sem pagar nada. Os gráficos são bacanos e o jogo corre em qualquer PC da marca Lidl. Conheci muita gente bacana a jogar isto.

Go play!
