Like, this society is a dystopia If you think about it. Why are the Catgirls directly owned by the humans as slaves? Like, they aren’t ever allowed to leave the house without collars with bells on them. Why? Presumably this is to keep them from leaving home. However, why should they be owned by humans, when they are clearly at the very least close to humans in terms of intelligence? They can understand complex emotions and tasks, even being able to question their position as slaves, as according to the wiki, Maple disliked the term Catgirl as it demeaned her as an individual. The fact that she could feel this shows massive amounts about the ethics of her being enslaved. And they aren’t just being kept as pets, immoral as that is, they are also being used as slaves. We see them doing menial labor, and we never once see the main character pay a proper wage. What else can they be used for? Ignoring the obvious catgirl sex trade, are there catgirl plantations? Catgirl sweatshops?
