This should be the new canon prequel to Half Life 2 and here's why:

.The graphics are heavily updated to fit the times

.The Source is engine works just as well and has more uses than the original Half Life

.The story pays homage to Half Life 2 in a way that actually ties things together, such as Magnusson's microwave caserousle, Dr. Kliener and Dr. Eli Vance being in the game etc.

.The game maintains some of the original layout of Half Life but twists it in areas to make it feel brand new.

.Xen is everything what the original Xen should have been, replacing uninhabitable floating rocks on baron wastelands to a habitat-like jungle with factories that make it more believable that alien creatures can live and thrive - even better, it's such a crucial segment of the story that gets way more play time

.The Vortugants' admiration towards Gordon Freeman is more justified now because of this remake, I won't say way for spoilers but when the game, you will see what I mean - It replaces the non-existant interaction with the Vortugants that Half Life one has

Don't get me wrong, I am not saying that Half Life is a bad game, it was brilliant for its time but I think in comparison to this game, it serves better as a prequel to Half Life 2.

SILENT HILL 2

No longer just an experience, it is finally a game. However, the game is now unplayable due to memory leaks that Bloober team has not been bothered to fix. Thankfully, I have beaten the game so I can give an honest review about it before uninstalling it.

Silent Hill 2 Remake carries over everything that was iconic in the original game, from remastered soundtracks and audio to the design of the world Silent Hill 2 and it's monsters - there are even secret 'Echoes of the Past' which give you a visual and audio queue when you come across something that was in the original game but cannot be used now.

That being said, the game does add it's own spin that makes the game much more dynamic, the best example being extended gameplay for the 'Other Side' segments, re-worked boss fight locations (with the final boss being the best).

The voice-acting (with the exception of some scenes) surpasses the original. Every dialogue delivery feels much more grounded in reality to the situation - the best case of this being the protagonist, James Sunderland. Gone are the awkward autistic-like deliveries and instead we have a man sounding like he is on his last legs with life which is much better suited to a character who is dealing with the trauma of losing his wife.

The combat and puzzles are 10x better than before - puzzles no longer require you to spam interact in environment and the combat is reminicent of Resident Evil 3 remake, in that it is simple, effective and not too distracting and once you learn how to master it, the game is much more fun!

Overall, this game far surpasses the original in quality of life and gameplay and to anyone curious about the Silent Hill series like I was, this would be a good starting point as the second game was more of a spin-off, leaving everything about the town shrouded in mystery.
