It feels half-assed. Most levels don't provide a clear objective or an in-game explanation of what you are supposed to do. Its just big level with some creepy-pasta-ass monster. Some levels do not provide enough items (in any at all) to maintain your sanity so its basically a timer to your death if you are stuck and don't know what to do. Some monsters feel very underwhelming (flashlight dogs) and some feel unfair (Skin walker camping your hiding spot). My friend wasted 40 bucks for me and 3 others to play an unpolished mess that soft locked us multiple times. 1/7.3. Most of the playtime was trouble shooting. Sure.... early access for "3-6 months" moment.

If you are going to buy it do it now, they plan to double the price for the 1.0 release which in my eyes is still another glorified alpha update. The gameplay loop gets stale after 60-80 hours thanks to the devs making it so you have to horde books to learn anything and the questing is repetitive. You can't clear most POIs how you want because of the sleeping zombie triggers that you have to go through in order to do some of those quests rendering stealth builds useless because you HAVE to wake them up.

Each recent update over simplified the game. For example there used be be multiple different types of tiers for a block made out of a matieral (plywood--->normal wood---->cobble---->brick----concrete---->reinforced concrete, etc) now its just wood--->brick---concrete. This one is more subjective as I preferred the older progression method of upgrading blocks.

The removal of glass jars is still probably one of the most moronic changes they have made recently. No more saving jars to refill them, your character now enjoy the taste of tea and shards. It makes early game water a pain in the ass to find in any survivable quantities especially for a 4 player coop world.

The performance..... oh boy the performance.

It starts off fine but after about an hour I cannot get more than 25 FPS on my RTX 2060 and Nvidia 9th gen I7 with 12 GB of RAM (which is the main culprit). The memory leaks are actually unforgivable. Horde night becomes an actual slide show for me EVEN on the lowest possible settings. If you have mid-range PC go play and mod minecraft with the various parasite and zombie mods that are out there. You will have a better time.

That being said, there is still positives about the game. A major one is the overhauling of how the maps generate. They added many new block shapes and used them to make more sensible and visually appealing cities. Terrain generation has massively improved so now there are no 90 degree roads that you have to find a way around. When you discover a trader the game will give you a map icon and which specific trader they are as they all have unique looking trading posts. The models for guns and zombies are moving away from the place holder assets they had for over a decade with custom ones (though there are still plenty of assets I feel need to be replaced).

Overall the game is not going to feel like a finished product when it leaves early access. The reason it has taken so long in the first place is because TFP were indecisive about the main direction they wanted to take the game. We went from a survival crafting horror game set in a simple blocky world to a mindless questing adventure game with occasional zombie annoyances. I rate this game a 3.5/7.3

Personally I am torn on the time to kill. Sometimes, even for light classes it feels too spongy, but the tank class doesn't feel tanky enough? I don't know how to describe it. All I know is there is no reason to pick anything other than the light class. The starting weapons don't feel like they can compete with the unlocks other people have especially the AK with really bad iron sights. I might comeback later, but for now, it's not for me.

You actually cannot load into the game, possible fake queue, and there is a constant timeout error that happens when the game tries to get you in. Why did they bother keeping this game up in this state? Also what is up with games and removing factions? C'mon its like NATO fighting NATO and Russia fighting Russia now.

UPDATE: Game still runs horribly
