Quick summary:
CrossCode is a game set in a viritual mmo known as crossworlds. You play as Lea, A mute sphereomancer with amnesia, she got hacked into the game because it was beleved she could get her memories back from playing the game. So now you are playing a singelplayer simulation of an mmorpg that feels more like a true mmo than other big titles in the gangre.

Begining of the game:
The game begins with a tutorial level set on a cargoship where the story is gradualy revealed to you as new game mechanics are introduced, After geting introduced to the core mechanics of the game you meet the captain of the ship, he explains your situation you are in and tells you to have a look around the ship.
After talking to the crew of the ship your final test before geting to crossworlds begin, You need to destroy a turret to prove you have understood the games core mechanics.
While fighting the turret a mysterius figure apears and attack the ship claiming he knows who you are, however to test if you are ''Worthy'' you have to figth a gigant crab made of scrap, this is the actual final boss of the tuorial.
After all of your tests you finaly get to crossworlds where you encounter you main rival called Emmelinator, You then encounter your first dungeon where you are finaly allowed to experience the real game, You clear a few interesting puzzles, fight some lesser minions and fight another boss, After that you unlock the circuit (otherwise known as your talent tree).

Main Game:
  • Combat: Crosscode uses Action combat with quick thinking and fast reactions. The game gets hard quickly and you will have to learn how to use the combat system in your favor, Your character plays the role of a Sphereomancer, Sphereomancers uses small projectiles known as viritual ricochet projectiles and quick movement to confuse your oponents. You also have 4 unlockable abbilities based on each of your core functions (Shield, Dash, Meele attack and range attack). Some monsters and bosses are a combination of puzzles and combat because you have to solve a problem when fighting them. The game handles combat great and i never reale feelt cheated by an enemies abilities.
  • Elements: Over the duration of the game you will unlock elemental combat, there are 4 elements in total (Heat, Cold, Shock and Wave) excluding your neutral attacks. Elemental abilities are more powerfull versions of your basic combat kit and they all bring a new mechanic to the table. However because these elements are so powerfull you have a special restriction called Elemental overload. When you're using elemental abilities you gain overload, after your overload is maxed out you reach elemental overload making you unable to use elements for a while so only use elements when its requiered for a puzzle or to combat specific enemies. Elements overall brings a more diverse combat system to the table and gives you more of a choice in combat.
  • Circuits: The main circuit is divided into 4 major paths (Health, Defence, Damage and Utility) and in my experience all of them are usefull in their own areas however i feel like a balance between all of them is the best way to go since all the paths give you special abilities that are almost required in combat. There are also a circuit for each of your elements, these however are not as linear as the others and they're all over the place, i would much rather have the main circuits 4 paths in all circuits because i just end up spending my points randomly becuase there realy isnt any way to specify in an area of gameplay when you are using elements.
The circuits overall help you develop your own playstyle, atleast in the main circuit. There is still a few issues that i think could be easily fixed but it's still a very interesting way to handle a talent tree.
  • Puzzles: The puzzles are by far my favorite part of the game because they are so cleverly done, they are difficult enough for it to be a chalange but it's so well made that no puzzles realygets frustrating. Most of the puzzles work together with the games core mechanics in a way that makes them both shine. There is not much i can say about the Puzzles, They are great and by far the best part of the game. If you like puzzles i would realy recomend this game to you.
  • Trading and Equipment: The trading system in CrossCode is quite unique in the sense that you don't just buy equipment and consumables with money, you also need the to own the required resources to craft for the itesm you want. As an example, if you wanted to buy a rookie helmet you might need 200G, 5 petals and 7 scrap. I like the crafting system because it doesnt just let you buy gear and blaze trhough the game, it somewhat slows dont the story and introduces grinding to the game, Sure grinding isn't realy a good thing but i think that in small amounts it gives you more content even though some people might argue it's Bad content. Overall the trading system is prety solid even thoguh it takes some time to get all the materials you need.
  • Secrets: The overworld is covered in secrets both big and small, it couldbe a secret path that leads to a chest or a whole new are that you had to find by yourself. Anywhere you go there might be secrets o keep your eyes open. Some secrets take understanding of the game to reach and some just arent avalable until you find a new element. It seemed like i found a new secret every time i went through an area, sometimes you dont procede with the story just because you realy want to kill a secret boss or finish a special quest. Secrets give you something else to do other than just doing quests and folowing the main plot.
  • Social: During the game you meet npc's that are created to act like other players of the game, These character cover all of the other classes that Lea can't be, These characters can be invited to the party and are very usefull if you need help with killing a monster. These characters can not participate in dungeons however so don't get to dependent on them, The first character you meet is called Emmelinator. She is your main rival in the game, she is a french girl who gets in trouble alot because she plays Crossworlds with Lea instead of working. I like Emmelinator, She is very competetive and gives you a nice early companion to play around with, she is also very usefull in combat and can tank damage for you, she plays as a Pentafist wich is prety much a brawler class.
The game also includes guilds where you can meet other npc's that you later might be able to invite to your party. The guild is also good if you get stuck because they will give you info about the game so can easily procede.
  • Graphics and sound: Im not realy one to care about the graphics in a game but i realy like Crosecode's theme and artstyle, The game is a 2D retrostyle game with a 3D enviroment, For instance there are elevated surfaces that you can ump from and that kind of creates a parcour like element in the game.
The music is realy solid and i dont have any problem with the diferent soundtracks, the only issue i have is that the songs get a it repetetive at times but it realy isn't that big of a problem.
  • Story: The story in Crosscode is devided into 2 parts (Lea's story and Crossworlds story). Lea's story mentions that she lost her memory and was found by a group of people who though she might get her memory back by playing Crossworlds, While venturing through the game you start to relize that Lea is part of a bigger sceeme. Meanwhile in Crossworlds the players are folowing the path of the ancients. The path of the ancients is the main quest line in Crossworlds and it makes the players walk in the footsteps of the creators of the world to figure out what kind of people they where and what secrets they hid away.
