I wish I could enjoy it, just can't. I absolutely adore Dark souls 3 due to how it feels to play, the fulfilment after beating a difficult boss just isn't in this game. I'm all for a non-linear pathway, but that kinda puts me to a point where I explore almost every direction and just waste and hour running around which just isn't fun. The first few estus shards are nice to find, but after that they just seem to vanish, I got to the Iron keep after beating two great souls and was still at 4 base level estus flasks because I refuse to look up a guide for this game.

But the main reason I play souls is for the boss fights, and they just feel awful. I don't think I should be punished for the boss falling off the platform we're fighting on (ruin sentinels), and if a boss has a mechanic that needs to be taken care of before the boss fight then give some inclination of what needs doing, lighting a windmill on fire to drain poison is not self explanatory. The 'great souls' don't feel different from regular bosses, I thought the lost sinner was a mini boss and when the words 'great soul embraced' appeared on my screen I felt so disappointed.

And as a final note, copy and pasted enemies are a major issue in this game, ruin sentinels is literally just 3 of the same enemy copy and pasted, there is a boss called dragonrider which becomes a boss fight later in twin dragonrider, of that exact same boss you fought before plus a ranged version. I enjoyed one boss that I found cool in the game, the flexile sentry, it genuinely broke my heart to see him copied and pasted as a random ad in a later zone...
Overall, just play 3 instead, I fell in love with that game but this one just fills me with disappointment.

Edit: I came back and finished the game. I don't regret finishing the game because now I can't have people being like "Oh but it was just too difficult for you". The bosses, 70% of them are just boring, badly designed fights, 10% of them are good concepts but Dark souls 2 plays too slowly for them, so they'd be much better in 1 or 3, 10% of them I haven't completed yet (will update when I have), and the final 10% of them I actually enjoyed so at least theirs some good to it. Overall after replaying it, there's just a lot of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ going on with this game if I'm being honest, if you like it then that's good, it just plays too slowly for my tastes, and often feels like I'm being punished for even trying to play the game at times.
I stand by the fact its an ok game, however speaking relatively to the other ones, its a bad souls game, if you want to get into souls I do suggest trying Dark Souls 3 or even 1, however do be careful if you eventually want to try this game like I did, it plays differently to the others. Oh, and hollowing and adaptability are the dumbest ideas to ever come out of this game. Don't listen to those who say the DLCs are better than the base game, because while they are right, theyre hiding the fact that the dlcs are only slightly less ♥♥♥♥ than the rest of Souls 2.
(Also side note, even more copy pasting issues found in the game, they shoved 5 ruin sentinels in drangleic castle behind doors because they could, its hilariously stupid).

I leave you with this final item description that I feel aptly sums up how I feel about this game:
Ring of the Embedded - Gain surprises, but take increased damage.

Edit 2: Beat all but 1 boss as king's pets are the stupidest boss run in existence holy ♥♥♥♥, ♥♥♥♥ this game, my suffering is finally over, I'm uninstalling this game and moving on with my life. Good riddance. 15% fun bosses, 15% deserve to be in better souls games, 70% are god awful, including the one I didnt face due to the awful boss run (Its just a reskinned boss but twice anyway).

Campaign is brilliant, stasis fun to try out throughout the missions then get at the end, boss fights are cool and the story telling is incredible. Soundtrack is sick, Europa is a gorgeous destination (and relatively big which I'm glad about), exotics are well designed and interesting to obtain this expansion. The new raid is my favourite so far in terms of encounters, atmosphere and dialogue and Bungie has added replayability to it even after completing on 3 characters which I love! Some quests after you finish the main campaign of Beyond Light allow you to choose whether you want to complete them in strikes, gambit or crucible and I think that is so much better. Overall this expansion has been phenomenal in my eyes and I haven't even finished everything it has to offer. Lots of fun alone, much more fun with friends as it should be, a 10/10 in my eyes.

Brilliant sequal to the first game, last chapter can be quite tedious but the story you gain from it which fits into the films is worth it.

I've done basically everything there is to do in this game but I still keep playing, the soundtrack is absolutely phenominal, the locations are stunning and I don't regret my time spent on this game. I've made so many friends along the way and this game has genuinely improved my life. Thanks bungo.

An absolutely brilliant game, Devil may cry fans and new players alike can get into this amazing game. The story is great, the way each character plays feels different and fun to switch it up and the soundtrack is gorgeous. I highly recommend this to anyone.
