Infectra is a Tower defense Zombie survival game based on gameplay, as you may know from Atom Zombie smasher

This is the second game created by Boar in Games, who entered the cruel world of Indie games on Steam with the game Squeakers.

Gameplay / Story

People are infected, heal them, oh no you waited too long now they are Zombies, kill them while an airship takes all the survivors and infected to a save zone. Don't take too much infected or else you are going to lose the game.

This game is a hard one. While I'm able to appreciate the polygon stile of the game and the overall gameplay, I dislike the random behavior the people and the zombies have. Nothing is more satisfying in this game than getting everyone alive on the plane and get away from the zombies. But oh boy do people get stupid in this game. Just think about the following scenario that happened way too often: You have blue midgets (the healthy ones) Yellow midgets (infected, but you can heal them) and Red Midgets (these kinds of people who vote for trump and eat brains to get themselves one) you can build checkpoint gates who heal people but guess what, every midget except the red ones try to avoid these gates like the plague. It's so stupid when you start a map and can't figure out where to place the extraction point because everywhere is a yellow midget who will not vaccinate himself to safe the others. This game may be far more realistic than I give it credit. You can avoid this by constantly restarting the game, because the yellow people spawn by random numbers and one of them can be 0. Beside of that the game is fun, a bit short but the game itself is at the price Tag of €1.53, so it's fine and a nice way to entertain yourself for an hour or two. And it does entertain, It's fun to build a setup and see what will happen. The Civilians you rescue are giving away their money, so it's important to extract them fast, so you can spend more money on buildings. The building part itself is pretty simple you got 2 Turrets, a fence and power plant to get yourself prepared for the game, the worst enemy besides the Zombies is the time limit, it takes time to build up the buildings, it takes time to repair them, and it takes time to extract people. It's a clever way to keep the pace going, and It's nearly never a good idea to turtle yourself and hope for the best. Strategic is actually the key.

Pro

simple and understandable HUD
a tutorial to explain the mechanics of the game
great pace and good in game animation
infected can be healed, therefore nothing is lost when zombies bite but not kill people
Textures and graphics have the 2004 feeling

Contra

- AI is clumsy and unpredictable
- Stages can be soft locked due to RNG Spawns
- there could be more buildings to choose from

Conclusion/ Who will enjoy the game?

Infectra offers a good game with a unique way on the zombie survival or extraction genre. In its current state it has a few things similar to Atom Zombie Smasher but does a lot of things completely different to be not a rip-off and something on its own.

So who will enjoy this game? Do you like Tower defense games with a horde of people you have to save? Need something similar in the way of Atom Zombie Smasher? Trust me, there are not enough games of this kind of genre? Then this game is for you, and it's super cheap.
