It shows a lot of potential, but this build is pretty rough around the edges. Buggy, full of half-baked design choices, dumb AI, messy menus, and just a lot of little issues that can absolutely be improved on before the full game release. I guess since this is unavailable, it doesn't matter if I recommend this or not, so take this negative recommendation as me rooting for the game, but making it clear that if it doesn't improve on these shortcomings by release, then it's something that most people could skip.

I really wish there was a neutral option. It's a charming game with a fundamentally solid combat system, but between its short length (finished it in 5 hours), limited gameplay outside of just combat, and frustrating auto-target system that makes large fights infuriating, it makes the game a bit hard to recommend. Overall, it's a good game, but by the end, I was growing tired of it. For such a short game, that's not a good thing.

Fun, but I wish there were a level pack. I only got 12 minutes of fun before it ended.

I remember playing this a fair bit a while back and liking it. I enjoy these Breakout-style games, after all, and adding new elements to spice it up is a great way to expand on the idea. But it had been a good while since I started it up, and I decided to give it more attention.

And then I realized why I had taken such a long break. The game is tedious. While the game does give you some tools to help clear levels and break tricky blocks, after a while, they become fairly useless as the levels are simply packed with unbreakable blocks and enemies that can sometimes end up stuck in places where you can't hit them. In the end, it's just frustrating to wait for the all to line up just right to snake its way into a narrow passage, hit one block, then bounce back out and leave you fumbling with it to try and repeat the move a dozen or more times. And that's just one part of the screen, so prepare to do that for the next ten minutes.

If your fireball spell could actually pass through unbreakable blocks or hurt enemies that block attacks from certain angles, it might not be so bad. Unfortunately, it becomes completely useless most of the time. Another spell redirects the ball, but that's also pretty impotent as well. It doesn't give a big nudge to the ball's direction, so it's mostly just to help a "close enough" shot line up, and the issue of having so many tunnels and chambers where the ball just bounces right back out after one block breaks means that you aren't gonna get a lot out of that spell. It feels like these spells would have worked better with unlimited uses and a cooldown timer instead of a mana pool that runs dry after only a handful of uses.

It's a shame. This game has a great sense of style, great music, and a great concept, but it fumbles in making the gameplay more enjoyable than the games it draws inspiration from. At $3, it seems like it couldn't possibly be that bad, but for how boring it is, it still feels like you could use that money in a better way.

After playing through the whole game, I still found the rules for some of the things to be confusing because of how poorly some of the mechanics are explained. While I'm sure there's more logical ways of solving puzzles, guessing and brute-forcing a solution seems to work better than figuring out how to actually play, which is a shame. I like the concept, and when things actually fall into place in a way that makes sense, it's fun, but too often it falls flat.

Go check out FLEB's other game, 20 Small Mazes. It's wonderful.

I figured it would just be a little time waster full of generic mazes, but it was actually a little time waster full of really clever maze-themed puzzles.

Who would have guessed that this would be one of my favorite games this year? It's a combination of first person puzzles (think Portal) mixed with exploration-heavy platforming (Metroid Prime) and some light combat, and the clever secrets, silly dialogue, and devilish secrets all make it an infinitely rewarding game. It's just a good time, and a perfect low-intensity game to relax with.

Do you like Doom? Great, because this is about as Doom a game can be while still being its own thing. This game is fast, violent, and feels incredible to play. I like it a lot, probably more than Doom Eternal, and the built-in map editor is a blessing. If you like this game, but wish it were more Doom, just check out the custom map browser, because you'd better believe people have remade Doom maps. You should probably play it.

Wonderful little platformer. You can play with up to four people locally, and believe it or not, it's actually designed to run on an NES. Like, seriously. I have a copy on an NES cartridge that works flawlessly. I really wish I had a multitap and two more controllers so I could experience it that way. Also friends.

It's not easy to recommend this game. While it is a very cool experience with some great visuals, puzzles, and story, it's very, very short. Like, an hour long if you're just playing through the story and not doing the extra stuff. Given that it's normally $20, that's a disappointingly short experience. It's definitely an easier sell to die-hard Batman fans, but everyone else really should wait to get it on sale, because it's definitely a worthwhile experience. If you still can't justify paying for something so short, just skip it.
