Early Access Review
basic description is its a battle royale type, loot and survival focused PvPvE type game. I like the direction it's allegedly going towards, but it's got some annoying jank which is EASY and quick to fix, and should be done fast so it doesn't lose momentum.

The CONS so far (I'm just going to focus on critiquing it's flaws because that's what'll help make it better.. if devs take the feedback) :-

-Ordered by severity-

- The game is highly LOOT focused (because your goal is to get better loot to do more rewarding dungeons), but the bad part is that the loot is SHARED among all players in a group. And the VAST majority of players I experienced, create a mental state where you are just gunning to try and open the loot 1st before someone else steals all the items). To the point where 2 dudes may be fighting a boss or enemy team, but then one is just busy opening the chests.
Solution - Just make the loot INSTANCED for every player, or a lazier solution is to just make it impossible for players to swipe items their class can't even use!

- The Map is not good for how much structural complexity there is, Figuring out what level an icon is at is a nuisance. When you die, you can't ping on the map where a resurrection stone is (you can't ping the map while alive either). You can split the map into SLICES, for each floor/level).

- the "Preparation" phase takes too long in between actual gameplay. building starter items, flasks, potions. Just increased "boring time" between matches. Needs to be streamlined.

- The ping system is too basic, press and hold on ping should allow more nuanced pinging options. Because most people don't use audio comms, and may not even hear you.

- The Maps are great, but feel at a risk of going stale. I would highly suggest adding some procedural generation type stuff to keep it fresh, or you can make a specific map type, and only that keeps randomizing!

- Friendly Fire is TOO HIGH, your own team can literally PK you in the middle of your run, causing massive resource damage from negligence or spite!

- I'll tolerate a simple af Diablo-esqe inventory fine, but It doesn't even have an AUTO-SORT option yet!!! Guys, if you really want your game to remain entertaining, please focus on making the UI such that players spend LESS time wading through UI jankiness, and MORE time playing the game (artificially inflated playtime is a moral sin)

- Servers could be better. My connection gives 60ping on Dota2, and 80 on Apex. I get 230 ping playing Dungeonborne Asia servers.

- Some classes are too imbalanced.

Please consider these things.

I think the 10.4 hours i spent on it while in my mid 20s was well worth it. The memories of all these dying games, preserved in my dying mind, preserved in this dying spacetime. great feeling.

Give it a go if it's still possible, why not?!

So Far I'm on the "downloading the actual game files after you downloaded what seemed to be the full game" part. Nothing major, just didn't expect the need for an update soon as i launched the game

**played another 11 hours, not bad, it's a mix of those "progress fight/scene by fight/scene to a dungeon kind of system with an end room you reach by going through the floors and fighting different types of enemies and then a boss and some. Combat mode is pretty lax, there's a LOT OF INFORMATION to take in at start, but just slowly you can put the pieces together and the earlier fights are pretty easy and you can do everything wrong and probably still win, so it's a good time to to learn how to play to your advantages, while it's still easy (it got harder after a few hrs).
More important fights have less of an "auto-fight-ish" mode, where you select enemies with your skills. While normal encounters are much quicker to deal with. but both have 2 options of setting up your moves for the turn, so you have the option of moving fast across the game that way, though it may not be optimal, still good for time efficiency!

THE ONLY THING THAT WORKS CONSISTENTLY, is the $$$ SHOP, shocking!...
It's the only thing that's reliable in this game.

-* Game's owners/stock-holders (not developers) apparently give 0 ♥♥♥♥♥ about people abusing config (editing FPS to make certain actions easier, lowering/removing recoil, etc) & other exploits to subvert intended game mechanics, and these exploits aren't even bannable!
-* Servers are TERRIBLE, I can almost never play without using my VPN (or else the game kicks me out of matches randomly, and has a terrible, RNG type chance of re-connecting).
-* You're way more likely to get banned for using a slur in text chat, or having an edgy/offensive username haha

It feels like the owners of this game are trying to min-max in the worst way.
-* They minimize their maintenance of the game's quality-of-life (such as bugs, abusable mechanics, server quality, etc.), and only focus on delivering new cosmetics which the "inceptioned" players will impulsively buy, further validating the Owners' way of handling business.

Sooo, the playerbase is spoiling the owners because they keep throwing money at a significantly broken game, which just tells the owners "you don't really need to fix the game beyond its current state, because even with this loose effort, people are still hungry to buy new skins and other cosmetics".

~It'll be better if you look for another option if you want to enjoy this kind of game.
Find another, better-cared-for game which is more than just a money milking software to spend your time on!

WTH happened to all the negative reviews that it got during its recent updates (nerfdate) near end of 2022, and a general sense that the devs were out of touch with "what makes a game good"??!

Did they roll back the nerfs or what?
I haven't played in like 2 years, so I missed the nosedive sesh Warframe got into, and will also miss this apparent "redemption" stage. Might play it before 2025

My review is - I don't remember too much, but it was probably good in 2019, seeing I did play it a bit. Try it for yourself, if it sucks, do something else, it's free at least.

I suggest finding another "free" game if that's what you're looking for. This game has an annoying amount of paywalls, which make me not want to spend money on even non-paywall things just out of spite.

Bungie got BOUGHT by SONY, after having been bought by Microsoft (but not working out), and then running solo from 2019-2022 (didn't work out).

Now I'm NOT guaranteeing that this will improve the game, but Bungie guys had honestly little vision for what a Multi-planetary futuristic multiplayer game COULD BE.

It was just reduced to Power level farming with poor inventory/gearing mechanics, rinsed and repeated. It's a pseudo-free roam game at the moment. There isn't much "interaction" with the world, apart from starting missions at assigned spots, some scanning etc. Feels empty, too few people per zone, dumbed down, DLC locked content all over the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ place!

Oh goodness me. I like the whole shabang with dungeon delving, party forming, turn based tactical combats, but damn the whole card system gets on me nerves!

Gloomhaven is a tabletop, dungeon delving, turn based, card based, hex grid based roguelite.
The aesthetics look great, The overworld map is nice and random encounters give you new stuff to do.

BUT-
I feel a MAJOR con lurking.

Which is the "card based" aspect of the game. And not it having cards, but how the cards "rotate/recycle/revolve" in each mercenary's hand, and discard/burn piles.

Also, each card (you get 2 cards per character every turn) has 2 usage aspects to it, top and bottom.
If you use top on 1 card, you can only use the bottom on the 2nd card. Or you can resort to using 2 dmg atk or 2 move (only 1 per card) as basic ability on every card..

Normally, when you use a card's skill, or basic ability, it goes into your "discard" pile, which can be recovered by doing a "rest" (long or short, slight differences), BUT even selecting rest will "burn" one of your other cards, which becomes pretty much useless for the remaining mission (scenario), except few options to recover them by burning other cards.

But most good abilities will "burn" the card.

So - Each card has 2 skills, if you use top skill on 1 card, 2nd card must be bottom skill (or basic skill - 2atk or 2 move), most good skills will burn the card rather than just discard it. And you almost certainly won't have that to use again, while your already tiny deck (8/9-13ish cards on start, varying by characters), because resting only recovers discarded cards.

This feels extremely restrictive, a really bizarre system of managing cards, the variability of outcomes and play styles is such that only a few approaches will really work and you have no other choice, eventually just by resting, and trying to recover discarded cards, you'll have burned your whole deck if you don't play in a very limited style. The burning of cards becomes like a ticking timer time bomb! (and less than 2 available cards means your character AUTOMATICALLY DIES, for the mission duration)

Because the game is made winnable for sure, just without many ways to do so. I feel extremely compelled to refund the game, but I want to support the devs and I've already spent 7 hours in it.. so I'm going to try again a few times and see if I can get past this system.

For someone with 5 hours at the time of writing this-

Pros-
Sick combat,
blood,
battle music,
accurate bullets,
class variety

cons-
-No Map. (if you don't want a pre-outlined map, you can just make a fog-of-war map).
-♥♥♥♥♥♥ jumps.. literally 8 inch vertical jump on heroes lol.
-No "climbing over a ledge" mechanism
-Would have liked "Pinging" option
-Voice callouts.. either they don't exist, or I've not seen them yet.

The cons are pretty mild and more QoL stuff, rather than annoyances. But it's only been me 5 hours, so let's see if things change further on!

Update at 9 hours - I've spent the past FOUR hours constantly getting disconnected from games despite everything being normal for the first 10 minutes or so of a run. Then, Sudden Lag Spike and i'm out. ZERO Progress if you don't complete the whole mission!!.....

60 Hours in and I've barely finished 70% of the game (supposedly, one can finish all 3 games in this much time or less).

This game is like a Pie made of different pie slices. Slices of Action, RPG, Survival, Faction wars, Horror, Post-apocalyptic shooter. A Unique world with a special flavour to it not found elsewhere.

I played this game back in 2009 when I was a young boi in school, and now I finally bought all 3 games over a decade later when I can finally afford them. And decided to once again play though all 3 before Stalker 2 releases. It's like entering a space preserved in time, and playing through the game reminds me of those days, and different spaces bring back different memories. Guess that explains my insanely slow progress rate. Worth it!
