Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender

LGBT (or GLBT) is an initialism referring collectively to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people. In use since the 1990s, the term "LGBT" is an adaptation of the initialism "LGB", which itself started replacing the phrase "gay community", which many within LGBT communities felt did not represent accurately all those to whom it referred. In modern usage, the term LGBT is intended to emphasize a diversity of "sexuality and gender identity‐based cultures" and is sometimes used to refer to anyone who is non‐heterosexual instead of exclusively to people who are homosexual, bisexual, or transgender.[1][2] To recognize this inclusion, a popular variant adds the letter Q for queer or those questioning their sexual identity (e.g., "LGBTQ").

The acronym has become mainstream as a self-designation and has been adopted by the majority of LGBT community centers and LGBT media in many English‐speaking countries.

A Message from the Admin Team

Dear friends,

First and foremost, we want you to know that you are not alone. Whether you’re here in the U.S. or anywhere else in the world, we see you, we hear you, and we’re here for you, every step of the way. We know that many of you are feeling scared, uncertain, and maybe even lost right now - and that’s okay. You’re allowed to feel that way.

This year’s election has brought a lot of fear and anxiety, especially for our trans and non-binary community members. While it may feel particularly difficult for those of us in the U.S., we also understand that these global struggles are not isolated. Many of us live in places where political shifts impact our rights, our safety, and our ability to live authentically. The reality is that wherever you are, it can be tough to face challenges that feel out of our control. But we’re here to remind you of one thing above all:

You are resilient.

And as a community, we are stronger than anything that stands in our way.

Elections, policy changes, and societal shifts can make things seem uncertain. Some years feel heavier than others, but we’ve always endured, and we always will. The road ahead may seem difficult, but history has shown us that we are always moving forward. Even when it feels like we’ve taken a step backward, the pendulum of justice swings toward love, acceptance, and equality - and we are part of that force.

In this moment, it’s vital to hold on to the truth: Our love is louder than hate. We will continue to build this safe space for all LGBTQIA people and allies, a space where everyone is welcome and valued for who they are, no matter where you are from or what’s happening in the world around us.

We understand that this is a tough time, but we also know that it WILL get better. The fight for our rights and dignity is long, but we’ve come so far already. Look at how much progress we've made together, and know that we’ll keep fighting for a world that truly reflects the love and acceptance we deserve.

Please remember that you are seen, loved, and celebrated, just as you are. And if you’re struggling right now, lean on us and on each other. We’re a family, and we’re in this together.

Already one third in, but let's post this anyways! Welcome to Pride Month season 55(?)!

Funny thing: When I asked people if it's the 55th Pride Month, they answered with "9th", because it is 9th day of the month, duh!?

May you all have an excellent time surrounded by rainbows, happiness, and BLAHAJS!

Despite the internet being a weird and disturbing place sometimes, this year's Pride Month offers many LGBT related activities and events again. For example, today is the last day of VRC Trans Academy's "Trans Pride VR 2024" event.

To quote Michael from last year:"We take pride in our diverse community, which spans across different genders, sexual orientations, and identities. Each one of you brings a unique perspective, and that's what makes our community so special."

For this reason, please feel free to spread your knowledge about online LGBT events and share screenshots from your Steam gallery about your pride month 2024 experiences!

Again, to quote from Michaels Pride Month 2023 post:

"Pride Month is an opportunity for us to amplify the messages of love, acceptance, and support for our LGBT friends, both on and off Steam. So please, take a moment to connect with others, celebrate their achievements, and engage in respectful conversations. By embracing diversity and treating each other with kindness, we can foster an atmosphere of unity and understanding.

While Pride Month lasts for a month, our commitment goes well beyond June. We encourage everyone to continue the dialogue, educate themselves about the experiences of others, and be an ally throughout the year. Together, we can make a positive impact and create an even more inclusive space on Steam.

We are eternally grateful for each and every member of this group. With your help, we hope to continue to foster an environment of love, acceptance, and respect. We're proud to have you as part of our community, and we look forward to continuing to create unforgettable experiences together."
