Canadian prog-rop group Rush never dissapoints in their releases. They carve out their own very special niche in the rock and roll scene. The group is celebrating it"s fourtieth anniversary this month and this song is from 2012"s Clockwork Angels, their 19th release. This is the band"s second concept album, the first being the unforgetable epic 2112. Clockwork Angels is about a young man"s journey, and listening to it feels like you"re on the voyage yourself. The title track itself feels very special to me. Geddy Lee"s vocals are very powerful and his voice has matured but not lost any of it"s edge. He also provides masterful bass parts and synthesizers to flesh out the tracks. Alex Lifeson"s guitars are intricate and sound nurturing here. The man is alternating between electric, acoustic and even twelve string on this album, and it definitly benefits the full sound of the record. Of course no Rush song would be without Neil Peart. A drummer of extreme calibur. His kit is famously huge and during live shows his solos can go on for upwards of ten minutes, without ever becoming boring. Peart"s machinelike drum prowess withstanding, he"s also the man who has wrote the lyrics to nearly every Rush song since he joined the group in 1974, and Clockwork Angels is no exception. His words and Geddy"s voice paint a beautiful story to play over the music. Rush is an amazing band that feels like it never falters or loses it"s way, which other bands in it"s contemporaries cannot say. With a crisp and unwavering sound that"s lasted four decades, it"s a very special band.
