The First Lord of the Admiralty and the State of the Channel Fleet

The First Lord of the Admiralty has, following the redress of the Prime Minister compiled the Channel Fleet into Portsmouth and Spithead, to review and remark on their condition.

The sight was one that was somewhat of mixed emotions. The Ships of the Line, some having been in service since the days of the Napoleonic wars were in dire need of renovation or even scrapping. The few screw or paddle ships in the Navy were belching black smoke and creaking with lack of proper care.

However, this is only the depressing side of the Royal Navy's current state. Currently the Navy is under technological research aiming to harness the full power of steam and iron, with new ships being laid down each month.

I expect the Prime Minister to visit Portsmouth in the coming days to partake in the fleet review alongside his Majesty, the King.

I deem it in the best interest of the British Empire that the Siamese fleet should not aid the Prussians. The Prussians have committed to colonialism in Asia and is thus a competitor and that we cannot allow. I would like this parliament to grant me consent, even though I do not require it, to declare a war against Siam so as to stop them aiding the Prussians.
