Let's Develop Together
Original post below

Have any of you wanted to develop a game?

I am sure some of you may have thought about it in passing but then realized you neither possessed the skillset or the time to forge ahead.

Let's just toss those things out the window. We have neither the skills or the time but we will do it!

If you're asking, "Just what exactly is that charming fellow getting at?" I am talking about creating a hypothetical game, everything from choosing an engine, picking a static team of developers, type of genre, name of our studio & much more.

I'd first like to gauge interest to see if any of you are interested in even pushing this forward. If there is interest, the next step would be to define our start-up team.

Feel free to post in this thread to state your interest. I will add all those who've posted & have a 1 on 1 conversation with you to get to know you a little better. You may also feel free to add me straight away.

Below is a list of people who are interested in joining the start-up roster. The roster will likely be finalized in a week from today. That's May 1st.

The only thing I ever coded in my life were simple Visual Basic apps (long ago) and ASP web applications - neither of which has anything remotely connected with games. One of my lifelong goals was to learn C#, but the first page of the 'for dummies' book explained that it really wasn't for dummies - so I put that back, and have never looked into it since.

I have made a lot of 3D content for The Sims, meriting 70 million downloads in all the years I made stuff. Dunno if that is of any help?

But hypothetically speaking (and hypothetically means I could be a 'hypothetical programmer' - yeah, I know, in my dreams!!), I don't have a mass of imagination but would love to be involved!

Please subscribe to this thread so you'll get prompted when posts are made.

I would like around 6-7 people in the start-up roster. I have no experience in this area so I am largely throwing out a number that makes sense to me, for a start-up to have. Please weigh in so we can come to a consensus.
Moonraker 24 Apr, 2015 @ 7:18am
I am currently using the Unity 5 engine at the moment and am getting into the modding scene again, I could do without the latter if it means working with an amazing group! ....and such a charming fella!
Of coarse, I have many of my own ideas, it may be too many to actually pick one, but if it is just our own Hyboria of Skyrim, to our cozy Mario Bros, ...thank you, I'm in!

You can count me in as well. Has been a while since I've been doing work (mostly graphics, and then some working on a general concept in a group) on a videogame, but I'm eager to have a go at it again.

So, is it still going to be the Beard Physics Simulator?
ShadowAngel 24 Apr, 2015 @ 3:27pm
So...what actually is this about? Is it just a fantasy idea about making a game or more? Sorry if i sound a bit dumb, but i don't really understand what this is all about now...
GrayCloud FOX! 24 Apr, 2015 @ 7:50pm
Interested? Hell yeah! I am! Just want to know how can I help to develop this idea...I'm actually working on a project, an indie one...RPG Maker, so I don't know how much I can help. Still, if I can prove myself useful, I'm more than happy to be in!
TheCompiler 24 Apr, 2015 @ 7:57pm
I am a c programmer I think this is great I am interested.
Holy Athena 24 Apr, 2015 @ 8:01pm
I'm currently already on an indie team, been making Darkstorm for the past 2 years in Unreal Engine. Though I'd still be interested, not entirely sure if/how I can help, but would like to see.

I'm down for it, but I don't know coding, I am a graphic designer though, if that's of any help, you can check out my portfolio: www.coroflot.com/mmorales6699

A couple people have expressed concern about what this project entails. I want to make it perfectly clear before we move ahead so all of you have a clear depiction of what’s ahead. We will be making a hypothetical game, from start to finish. Together we will choose a studio name, pick a genre, develop a story, engineer characters, create levels, define the final product price, etc. We will go through all the motions of constructing a game without actually sitting down in a game engine & making an actual game. This is a mental exercise more than anything else. It’s about learning, about ourselves, our capabilities, about the game industry & hopefully will give us a little more insight into the game development process. This is obviously strictly a volunteer project.

Lastly, if there are any questions, please feel free to add me or post in this thread. Everyone should know exactly what they're getting themselves into with this project.

Thank you.

I would love to help, but can not help with game or IP ideas. I own a company which owns a few (new) IPs as well as license work out to other IP owners. Needless to say there could be a real conflict of interest.

Other than overall IP I am open to helping with anything else.
I'd love to help as well, I know my way around level design in both Single Player and Multiplayer modes. (I.E. Contact times, layout, and atmospheric size)

Although I appreciate that Luny is inviting so many probably talented people, I have to agree with Joseph that it's impossible to judge who we're dealing with based on one or two short sentences.

I've taken a look at each profile, which really didn't give me any more of an idea. Searching the web for someone's background based on Steam nicks seems pointless as well.

If you feel this isn't the right place to say anything about yourself (although I can't imagine why), well, we have a meet & greet thread in this forum.

Cheers!

PS You all do realize that conversation is something we need to do when working together, right? ;)

Absolutely, Im not much of a typer, but I do have a teamspeak that can be used, as for being included in a hypothetical team, it's a brilliant exercise I havent seen done in a while. As for talent, Im working on a map in CrySandbox right now, but it wont be done for a looooong while due to the fact that it's going to be a rough draft for a game idea I have.
Muffin 26 Apr, 2015 @ 3:35pm
I have time to spare in anyway I can contribute, I have background and experience in networking engineering and support. In the past I have worked with mods and several different SDKs, would be interested in getting either in touch with other developers or helping out with whatever your project requires.
