Is it supposed to be this punishing?? Everything I do is a wrong move, and there's endless enemies?

I looooved this game! Anybody have any suggestions of games like it?

The rest of the game felt well done but here we have constant enemy respawns and a boss with insane aoe attacks It feels more tedious and unnecessarily punishing than challenging

I was waiting for the summer sale to get this, only to be met with disappointment :(
