I played the game as a kid and replaying the enhanced edition the magic is still within this timeless epic of a game. There really hasn't been and maybe will never be another planescape torment ever with its surreal world building of the hub worlds and multiverse; its zany cast of characters and team members with their own motivations, philosophy and goals that may even be antagonistic to yourself; the premise of the Nameless one and its untangling of its myriad threads and subplots; the wall and wall of texts and more texts; its themes and flavour is unique like a fine bottle of wine which never goes out of style and more. Till today it holds up and even if one picks it up now it won't lost out to any AAA games out there.

a true masterpiece. But you have to be prepared, this is far from a H&S type of game. You will have to read a lot. For hours.

I won't go into too much detail for spoiler reasons, but there's a segment in this game where you can feel the sensation of another person's single experience. In this segment, one of those experiences is written so vividly that it elicited a genuine emotional response from me. I don't often get that from video games. They sometimes get the "aww that's sad" type of reaction from me, but this moment made me genuinely sad. Very beautiful writing.

There's also this well-balanced atmosphere/tone that manages to be bleak but also light/humorous. Creates a sense of dread but the more time you spend interacting with characters (especially companions) it can sometimes feel hopeful.

The portrayal of the afterlife is not one of I've personally seen before either. Planescape retains that rigid good/evil binary that you see in real-world religions like Christianity. The rigid "logical" alignment system is part of the game's core mechanics but it also falls under scrutiny by the introducing the Nameless One who cannot die. He simply resets his life experiences and therefore his good/evil alignment. He doesn't fall perfectly into placement within the planes, therefore by merely existing he subverts the whole structure of planes/afterlife. Seems like something that has probably been done before multiple times but I still think it's very cool and interesting.

Combat is pretty terrible though. There's a steam review that explains how to use console commands to one hit kill enemies and I wish I saw that when I did my playthrough. I think you'll get more enjoyment by playing this like a visual novel and not engaging with the combat the intended way but that could just be me.
