This is one of the best free horror games on Steam, and better than many of the paid ones. It's a tight and focused experience - you'll complete a playthrough in about 20 minutes - but not one of those is wasted and the pacing is perfect. Too many games out there shove a monster in your face and let you look at it for too long, but this one unsettles by teasing you - as a great writer once said, "the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown". The tension builds slowly as you perform your house-sitting tasks like taking the bins out and watering the plants, and it's the little details that initially unsettle you: "I turned the lights on in this room - why are they off now?", "who moved the pizza?", "WHERE HAVE THE RUBBER DUCKS GONE?!". The sound is brilliant - when my girlfriend played this, it was the sound of somebody moving around upstairs that made her refuse to continue - and the mechanic of having to actually walk into a dark room to be able to clap the lights on always increases the heart rate, even when there's nothing to see. When the entity actually does start to appear you only glimpse it briefly, leaving you wondering what exactly you saw. By the time it's squeezing through a doorway much too small for it like that one scene from It Follows, you're ready to run for your life and fumble with the front door. There's a slightly comic atmosphere to the whole thing and an easter egg or two to find (careful where you throw that bin bag) that lend some levity to the situation, but this only improves the B-movie feel for me. This might be Maksim's first game, but it shows an excellent understanding of what makes horror work and how to create tension with limited resources - I'll be excited to see what else he comes out with.

Very cool game, it took me 55 min to get all badge
