I didn't quite understand how to use the counter system. I think it's a timed defense but I can't quite tell?

What's with this "auto-killing mode"? 2nd walkthrough and I stuck in the hunted castle, bc all already known spirits are being killed without even consulting me. I cannot capture any of them. Where's "turn it off" button? Help =(

I having identified all spirits and completing the Cursing Skulls,but cannot take an enhanced armor

So I just got 99 Spirits as part of the Humble Bundle, and noticed that all text sems to be cut off at the bottom of each line. Notice the tails of the "y"s and "g"s in these examples.
