This is not a perfect port by any means of the word; but it is a console exclusive finally made available to the PC market after many years. I would highly suggest at bare minimum reading the modding tutorial and installing the INI tweaks mod that at least uncaps FPS - the rest is....fine. Calling this a remaster is an absolute stretch of imagination given the textures look like literal ass and there is not a single graphic option to be found, I don't think native upscaling to your monitor can really be classified as "remastered". It is more playable than an emulated copy of the game though IMO (I tried right before this "remaster" was announced lol). So I mean, idk - it's a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hilarious game with some snappy combat with a fever dream story going on in the background. It's cheap, it's fun, and it's at least here so modders can start digging into the internals. I'll call that a passing grade.

A troubled classic.

I love this game to death. It's my favorite Suda game, it has the genius of Shinji Mikami, and its development was desperately derailed by its publisher. It is, arguably, a gutted game.

Regarding the port itself, it's extremely barebones. The game runs and that's it. You can't change resolution, in fact, you can barely change anything at all. I didn't encounter any problems, though, so there's that. Game's playable.

That's all I wanted, though: Shadows of the Damned had all the trappings of a forgotten 2011 shoulder-shooter that sold poorly, scarcely remembered fondly by the handful of people that played it and enjoyed it, forever trapped in dusty PS3s and Xbox 360s. I'm extremely happy for this port, regardless of the lack of features.

It's a Suda51's Resident Evil 4. It has jank, it has only 3 guns (that get more features, granted), it is relatively short, it has no extra modes. It has amazing banter, likeable characters, an ocean of style. It clearly had tons of cut content. It's one of my favorite games.

It's worth a playthrough, at least. It will, if nothing else I said appeals to you, scratch that old handgun-with-laser itch that RE4 and Dead Space left.

I don't know if I would have liked Kurayami more. But I love Shadows of the Damned.

Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered is a very fun third person horror shooter. Shooting is tight and responsive with some really cool guns. Level design is really fun and provides some nice puzzles here and there. I really liked the visuals and art design and found the games atmosphere and soundtrack to be excellent. The story is a fun romp through hell to save your lovely Paula from the evil Fleming and there is plenty of funny zany moments that happen along the way. The length is about 6-8 hours and there is a New Game mode added into this version so you can play through the game again with all your upgrades which adds to the replayability. I recommend to anyone looking for an out there horror shooter!
