In that link I gave you on your previous post;

http://www.iceberg-games.com/index.php?dispatch=products.view&product_id=384

there's a part about StarDrive 2 and multiplayer:

Will there be multiplayer in StarDrive 2 ?

If there will ever be a multiplayer feature for StarDrive 2, you will only learn about it when it is implemented. In our opinion, your decision to purchase StarDrive 2 should be based on the game’s Steam page feature list, and reviews by press and peers.
Our and Steam’s policy is to never ‘promise’ through official communications anything that isn’t already developed and ready for implementation. We will continue to abide by that policy in future.

A good example of a lesson learnt in that policy.

Yes, SD1 promsied MP but failed to deliver.
Captain Einsicht 6 Oct, 2014 @ 10:04pm
yep .. i am very disapointed about that... during development of SD 1 "zero" said he has testet the MP and its possible and no problem ...

yes no problem.. there is NO mp .. !

Well Zero later said that MP in SD1 wasn't really feasible, so I don't see how he could have tested it. unless you speak of SD2

One of his statements about MP, made after the game's release.

I implemented some test multiplayer code about a year ago, but pulled the plug on a full implementation until the core features were in place. Multiplayer is a post-release priority. I think it's going to be a serious undertaking and I want to make sure we have a solid core product first. With that goal achieved, then I will be able to implement the multiplayer.

Conceptually it isn't horribly difficult to do, but it will take a lot of testing and there are probably a lot of unknown unknowns standing in my way. That said, I have played a basic combat match against myself before. Ships move, shoot, etc. The issues boil down to who does the computation and what messages need to be sent from the server to clients and when. The model I set up has the server doing all of the computation, with the clients doing their own simulation that gets corrected by the server. The result looked pretty good at the time.

Some other issues need consideration. The various game screens like the shipyard cause the game to become paused, and we would need to address that for multi because there would be no pausing. I'd also need to make a lobby and matchmaking system so that people could find each other. I have to consider who has what ship designs and how to trade those before a game starts. All kinds of stuff.

But it's a solveable problem, and again, not so difficult; just large.

I want to see modes where more than 1 player can play the same faction. So 2 on 2 would be like 2 people as the Kulrathi and 2 as the Pollops. Or you could do a more traditional game where everyone has their own faction. Or maybe we can do just some smaller arena style games.

All of this depends on the game's reception. I'm going to make what people want to play ultimately.

I love how he changed from "Solvable problem, not that difficult" to "Impossiable".

Given how many other 'impossiable' things Blackbox has put out, it really wouldn't suprise me if they could find a way to add MP to the game if Zero gave em access to the game's source code.

Anyway, aZero stated he was planning to add MP in SD Unity, but with it being rebranded to SD2... Well, that's one way to sidestep that issue since he planned it for Unity and not 2.

Mr X, let me just express that I am truly happy to see some of the older posts that allegedly "never happened" surface. It irks me to no end when Crunchy and others state that there is no proof of this or that statement, knowing full well that well over 1500 webpages of completely benign (in terms of not breaking rules) information and conversation has been deleted by ZeroSum and associated parties since beta.

Gen. That statement quoted is the basics of the argument. Is that pre release or post release. What does it matter. It's not, and wasnt in, the official release feature list of the game. Condemn the him for saying what he wanted or expected he could do. Just realized what you are doing. It's not and want in the official feature list gen. If you had pressed him on why that is you would understand this better.
Although read that statement carefully and for a promise you get "I will TRY to get multiplier in"
Which he did. So...
Anyway. Not going to press this. Keep hunting guys. I'm sure you will find something to change my mind eventually. Or your own. Take it easy.

That's rich. Please tell me where else you go to and expect to be told by the managing director of the dev company that something is going to happen then have some fan argue that "it's not on the official feature list so don't expect that to be true". Nowhere else, that's where. The horses mouth is the horses mouth, whether it's on the pasture or in the barn. Everything Zero posts is official, because the account "Zero" is the only public representation of ZeroSumGames. Zero outside of his role as MD and Dev posts under a different handle, which for privacy I will not reveal.

And FYI it was a little before release, but that is easy to tell from the wording. The important thing to note here is that this was not only deleted with not a whisper, but there was no retraction or statement issued until the "Oh, that's just something we were playing around with the idea of, it was never realistic really".

Besides, I was not arguing that it should or should not have been in the game, I am arguning against the statements that have been made to the effect of "you have no proof so we may as well be taken as lying". Now we have proof and you fall back on the old "it wasn't in the official feature list argument" despite it being on both the kickstarter, the website landing page and the Steam page at the time I purchased.

I don't want MP. I just want to stop being told that I am in the wrong for stating that I (we) were expecting stuff from the Dev, including MP. Had this quote not been in the preceding posts, you would have argued that it was impractical, either due to pausing being impossible or due to being too big a job and the Dev never intending to start it, or something else that this quote contradicts. Now you will find another reason, then another, then another, just to toe the party line.

And I am not hunting, in fact I'm not even interested in the game anymore. I just keep an eye on the forums on occasions that I see a certain thread with a certain quote or two.

Remember the argument that Zero made about needing to write a design document with all the ideas for the game. Well Multiplayer was on that document, Zero just decided that it was not possible to do in time for release. Then he axed the idea and informed us after release. That means, quite plainly, that there was a window of time after release where the party line was still "MP is coming". What now? Oh yeah, I'm lying unless I have quotes right?

I can also scrounge up pics showing that the game was marked as Multiplayer on Desura after Zero declared the game feature complete. And lets not forget the number of features that were listed as being in game on the game's official website, but were actually missing. I made a topic about this at one point, and suprise suprise - Zero trashcanned it. Guess he didn't like me putting those skeletons out to light. (Or, in his own words, I was complaining about 'little ♥♥♥♥ that didn't matter')

But then again, I'd figure Desura isn't official enough of a retailer for you to consdier it's listed features as legitimate. And the same tune to the game's official website.

Anyway, I don't have much hope for SD2. SD2 has passed it's publisher announced release date, and Icebergs unwillingness to put out a new article addressing this gives the implication that things are not well between IBG and ZSG.

Gen I have worked at some of the largest software and hardware companies in the world and I can tell you for certain that anything not in the official release feature list is not an official release feature.
The Dev or ceo talking about what they think or want to do has no relation to what the product will actually get.

Ideas the Dev has being official is not the way the process works and never has.

And mrx you are right. Zero messed up that side channel. It had not been updated since the game was alpha.

The main channels were accurate at release.I know you guys have some anger there but try to cut the guy some slack.

I will again try to not comment here again

And at those companies what happens to Project Managers that act as Zero has with customers? Really bad example dude.
